I felt rushed into the decision, I should have taken my father for a your and an introduction or interview to ensure it was a good fit. Staff was friendly but I do not believe rooms were cleaned as much or often as they were said to be. The rest was out of facilities control.

Most of the staff is very nice. The place is clean and inviting. My husband was in the assisted living part with elevated skilled nursing. They charged for a lot of extras and some of the staff was not happy with the care they were supposed to provide. I had several conversations on some of the issues. It's a nice place for people who are somewhat health. I don't think the skilled nursing criteria is what they tell you it is.

Quality of care is poor and staff is not equipped to deal with dementia patients and their families. I really wouldn't highly recommend it because of the poor care. They may be good for assisted living and the facility is beautiful and great location but the care for the Reminiscence Residents is very poor.

Actually at this point in time I'm not sure I would recommend it. I'm still learning about the new management.

My sister needed one month of respite care after back surgery. Her studio room was nice and the caregivers were attentive and engaging. We were told the facility did respite care and had PT available at a cost to help with rehabilitation. Also, that a cost for having meals in her room was waived by approval of the sales staff. As it turned out, the outside PT company was very difficult to contact, and thus she only got one week of PT before leaving. Also, we were charged for delivering in room meals, even tho promised otherwise. When her stay was over, we were told to just leave the key at the front desk with no formal check out. The next month we received a bill including two weeks after she checked out when she was not there. Trying to get in touch with administration was hard when there and harder still after she left. We were disappointed in the lack of administrative responsibility for respite care.

The majority of the staff are great, however, there are a few that pop in on a daily basis that you can tell do not want to be there. This has put a damper on the overall mental wellbeing and outlook of living in the facility for our parent. Unfortunately, when needing to stay in the room to eat because of mobility issues, we have found that meal delivery is very inconsistent. On average meals are being missed at least three times per week. The majority of time the meals are ordered with a staff member, but never delivered. Meal delivery to the room is not necessarily the norm, however, we have been told about 1/3 of the residence eat in their rooms.

[names removed] are great. They are so very attentive to residents needs. They are compassionate and empathetic. They are very friendly. [name removed} the director is leaving.[name removed] is phenomenal. He is very accommodating to every request. It is just too bad they don't have a real open-door policy. And they don't have a campus.

All the staff were well meaning and friendly. Not enough people on the memory care floor on many occasions. So waiting for meals, help with a neighbor, etc. Lots and lots of turnover at management level. Unstable oversight.

Really bad problems with medical care on site. Unqualified medical techs performing unsafe actions. My mom was a more advanced case but that should have been considered when assigning staff after hours. Primary nurses were really good. Night shift and med techs were a risk to safety. I had three saves myself associated with medicine, oxygen, and food. Shows that a really nice facility is only as good as what's underneath. And food was the same every week. Similar in quality as two other nursing homes she was in for physical therapy recovery.

[name removed] was only there for 2 months and was unwilling to leave her room for most of that time. Her meals were brought to her but they were very late and cold. The staff was friendly and attentive but the facility seemed to be understaffed. I do not feel qualified to completely answer the questions because she wasn't there very long.

Examples are do not recommend, disappointed etc Delivered [date removed] 09:54am Besides the outrageous charges for the room, medicine distribution, personal care, etc, they are increasing the costs of almost everything starting in Jan. They are always having problems keeping cooks. The food is not good so a lot of people do not eat it. The housekeeping staff do not keep the individual rooms clean. I have to pick up stuff off of floor on a daily basis. The bathrooms are not cleaned and sanitized often unless you ask. The head administration does not work five days a week and if you have a concern she keeps her door closed and makes excuses so as to not hear you, then she normally does not act to satisfy your needs. For what it costs to keep your loved one there you would think that your concerns would take priority but is not the case. Would I recommend this place? Probably not.

My father lived at Sunrise of Arlington for the last 4 months of his life. I really wanted to give Sunrise the highest marks because the front-line staff who do the daily caretaking of residents are very kind and compassionate, and I think they do a very difficult job about as well as could be expected. I was very touched by their kindness at times. An organization is only as strong as its weakest link, however, and given our experience with the director of medical care there, I cannot recommend Sunrise. The lack of compassion and even professionalism made the final weeks of my father's life and the experience of his death much harder for him and the family than it needed to be. At the time of our greatest distress, the medical director responded to our needs and concerns with callous indifference. When choosing Sunrise for dad, I was focused on daily living questions. I wish I'd known to focus on the medical care.

If you are looking for a facility with skilled nursing do not place your loved one there go to sunrise ! If you have questions about your bill or the service and you are looking for answers expect the staff the make excuses like they are tied up in meetings all day everyday ! It was ridiculous. Also if you need care that keeps you bedridden you have to hire an outside aid to assist your loved one. It is a brand new facility too and they are short-staffed. They have their aids setting tables for meals - that should not be their jobs.

Manager runs Bear Canyon like a Gulag. Manager and his immediate staff are accustomed to dealing with residents requiring serious assisted living support and not accommodating independent living residents. Square peg trying to fit in a round hole. Majority of staff are skilled and caring, but are leaving as Manager has no people skills for praising, directing, or inspiring staff or dealing with residents.

It is too expensive for what you get overall. They need a more diverse food menu. They do not have any activities.

At BG the care staff are friendly and willing to help when asked. But we'd have to wait for help. There are not enough caregivers per resident in the memory care unit in my opinion. Only a few seem to be self starters and show initiative. Good people though. Ways to improve on the food: Large amounts, no flavor, fresher ingredients. I think there was a lot of turnover in the kitchen too.

It is VERY independent. I would only recommend for those needing no care and if it seems like a good fit.

The menu should be healthier- with less pasta, more appetizing vegetables, more fiber and protein options. All desserts should be offered in less-carb versions and labeled as such on the daily menu paper. Refreshments at special activities such as parties or Happy Hours should be offered in glass glasses- not plastic cups. Prizes for Bingo and other activities should not be treat-(candy, cupcakes, etc) centered. I have eaten with my family member at Sunrise many times, and what I have observed is that meal times are VERY depressing. Most tables sit only 2 or 4 resident, and no one talks. Many residents often don't make eye contact with each other. Meal times make me think I am back at my father-in-law's nursing home. YUK! The activities are very limited and are repeated every single week with very little brain stimulation (and this is on the assisted living floor!). Generally, each afternoon is spent playing Bingo and watching a movie together. One afternoon a week, the activities director and a caregiver paint ladies' nails for free. Lots of passive activities. I would like to give a shout-out to [name removed], the head of the caregiver dept. She really listens to residents and family members and follows up quickly on anything that requires her attention. She is honest and straightforward.

They were constantly short staffed. They lost my mom's dentures, hearing aides, clothes constantly missing. Laundry was done with all colors, so the white items were all gray at best. Staff regardless if they were agency were not held accountable when I complained. Food that was provided to the residents was Luke warm at best. In my opinion, senior staff, listened but did nothing to improve conditions. My overall rating is between 1 and 2, definitely not worth the money.

Big issue is how to obtain information about day to day living here. Communication in general is lacking. Biggest selling point is that dogs are allowed. Beautiful environment. Everyone here is connected to UVA. No racial diversity.
