Sunrise Senior Living

The reason I'm not giving them 5's is becaue my mom is a difficult person, I think they're doing the best they can and she's going to things at their extreme encouragement but it's a difficult sittuation. I do like the general level of care, the daily stuff, which is why we went there but what I don't really understand, or what I would like to see improvement on is they're kind of halfway. They do the medications, but they won't make arrangements for appointments, and I didn't think a facility like this wouldn't be doing that. There is a doctor that comes in, but he's a general practitioner and he doesn't want to deal with the psychiatric meds, so now I need to find a psychiatrist. They'll take her to her appointments as long as it's on Thursday between 9 and 1 and that's if they're not already taking somebody. It's fine for the people that are there, but my mom, not only is she a difficult person, but she has a difficult situation.

My father ahs since died, I think the staff that they have overall is good, they're friendly, I think they know what they're doing but I think the biggest problem is they don't have enough staffing. We bought my father the clicker that you have around your neck if you aren't by a pull cord but they don't come right away, it could be 10 minutes or more before they come. I don't think it's because they don't care, I think it's because they don't have enough staff. We spoke with Patti, the director, and she freely admits that they don't. I don't think that they don't want to have more, it's that corporate isn't letting them. The activities were there but are you going to participate? Well, a lof of the people there are kind of out of it, they're sleeping in their wheelchairs or stuck in a corner somewhere; so maybe a lot don't because they are too out of it to participate. There are absolutely some that do but does the staff come to get you and let you know that there's a sing a long? I don't think they do and I think they can't because there aren't enough of them.

I checked out a few place and this was also good. The only reason we didn't choose it was because of cost. I would have preferred my mom go here. Their food was fabulous and it was clean and nice and seemed like nice people. We didn't get as far as checking out the care so I'm not too sure about that but their prices were cost prohibitive.

My Dad has been here for two years. He has been happy and well cared for.The staff is, for the most part, exceptional. The facility does show its age but it is light and bright - important for the elderly. I think the decor and surroundings appeal to the elderly - not necessarily the children of the elderly. The wonderful thing about this place is that there are lots of windows and skylights. It isn't overly large, so it feels manageable. They were bought out recently. Seems like I've seen increased penny pinching. I hope not.

I was the most impressed with this one. If it had been my choice as to where mom would have gone, it would have been ehre but the reason I didn't choose here was because she wanted to stay in Monroe where she had lived and knew people. I just liked the way the facility looked and the newness of it and the dollar amount would have not been that much more, but it wasn't about me, it had to be about her.

Nice, seems like good care being given but the physical setting is too fancy for our family to feel comfortable in.

We moved my dad from here to another Emeritus in California and that was a really easy move because they gave us credits on all sorts of things. I do think this Emeritus was slightly better than the one in California. My dad is deaf and blind and they were better at communicating with him and making sure he understood where he was and what was going on.

This was slightly smaller than the other Sunrise and while they did have the wander guard system, they seemed reluctant to use it for an individual past the initial beginning stages. We wanted her to have it for as long as she was there, however long that may have been.

Things are going really well, my parents are still currently in the respite, I'm sure we're going to be looking at a contract sometime in the next months. We've only been there a couple of weeks, the cleanliness is great, the staff has been wonderful, at times it's been a little bit reactive rather than proactive. We're still trying to figure out whose in charge of what sometimes. The care manager's been great, the physical therapy's been great, just right now they're going through a major transition. Two of their directors just left and have gotten promoted so they're in limbo right now. From what I understand they've fileld the main director's position but they have to go through a two week training program; so they're really in a major transition, but I guess that's pretty typical in this location. The dining room is great, we love the outdoor seting, we love the park next dorr, we love their apartment, it's so nice, lots of windows, lots of light, it's very comfortable and we have loved those aspects of it.

This one was really expensive and really "high class"- basically we couldn't afford it. Another reason we didn't chose this one was they wouldn't let her use her military prescirption, she would have to pay to use theirs. Mom's at the lowest level of care, she jsut needs somebody to get her her medications and remind her to eat but sh'es pretty self sufficient other than that. The base was around 6,000 so with that and then the additional cost of prescriptions it was too expensive.

Out of all of the Sunrises this one stood out as the best. We didn't chose it because Tall Oaks was head and shoulders above it.

They need to provide better service at meals. My dad moved here to assisted living and I feel like this is more of a cafeteria and not a dining room. One menu is provided per table, they don't ask the people what they want, they just bring out this huge tray of food. My dad has eating issues so he would eat more than one meal; I've seen a woman who finished her meal and they came back and asked her if she wanted something more. My dad was supposed to get fruit for dessert and it was never offered, it is now, but they would bring out these HUGE dessert trays and just let them chose. I'm not really happy with the dining and the way meals are being served. I don't think I would ever eat here, all of the food comes already on the plate, covered in plastic, so it's been sitting for some time, it's not always hot. Meals are probably the highest point of my dad's day, he's hearing and seeing impared so he can't really participate in the activities. I feel like, when I've had to deal with all the "big people" (Executive director, marketing people, the director of assisted living...) all of them have been great and I feel like they listen and I know when I ask for changes for my dad I've gotten them. It's a really big job and they have a lot of people and they do a good job.

The tour was great and I really liked what they had to say, but they didn't have anybody there that day who could talk to me about the price. I went to use one of their bathrooms in the dining room and it smelled horrendous, it was the same kind of smell as wehen you walked into the facility, you could smell it right when you walked in the door. I don't know if someone had had an accident that day or what. Besides the smell, which could have just been ranodm that day, it was better than the other Sunrise. It was more sunny, more open, the residents seemed happier, a bunch of them were going to a movie and they have this set up where a person is assigned to a group of people to make it more personal. It sounded like they had a pretty decent set up but I had a feeling it was going to be expensive because of the price of the other Sunrise.

This was much more expensive for one, it was much more fancy, the interior design was pretty fancy, I mean, it was nice, but it was kind of fancy. The thing that struck me the most besides the additional cost was two [removed] the additional cost, each person was assigned a caregiver and this person was not a certified professional, just someone trained by Sunrise. The other thing, understanding of course that a lot fo their residents have memory issues, but there was a resident there when we were by the nurses station who was complaining he hadn't gotten his medications yet. I don't know if he had memory issues, but the woman who was giving us the tour was quite perturbed by that.

This looked good, it's one where you have to buy the apartment and then the family has to resell it afterwards and it just would have been a lot more effort than we needed at the moment. I didn't feel like buying another property when I'm still trying to sell their home and it also had a longer waiting list.

There are some glitches, however, all in all, I'm very happy. There are a few things that need to be improve on, one thing is the dining room. During meal time, some of the residents just scream out for no reason or get upset. Even though I know there is a reminiscence wing, he's the youngest one there, and he's not in that wing and that's what's so hard. He thinks he can have a conversation with them but he's can't, the residents themselves, they can be very nice but then they ignore him and me, it's the strangest thing but that's because I guess it's because they're older. He really loves the people that help him, the administration is pretty good, the director, I'd say he's wet behind the ears, but he listens to me, he just can't grasp the thing with the meal time, it's 6 steps forward, 3 steps backwards sometimes but overall we're very pleased and they really want to please him which is great.

The Facility would be perfect for my parents even though they don't include the phone/cable. The fact they are willing to evaluate my parents at their current facility and not have me bring them there is huge!! As Victoria said a 2 plus hour drive each way just to spend a few hours is not in their best interest. they also make a better evaluation seeing their current care level/Meds first hand. I have to figure out how to pay the up front one time time fee of $3500 and only if VA benefits start could they come close to the $10,020 quote pending the results of their evaluation of care level. It could be a little less the quote was done at the highest level for my Mom and next to the lowest up for my Dad.

We've given our 30 day notice because she wasn't happy there. She just didn't feel like that was her home and English is her second language so it was hard for her. It's nothing against the community. I have nothing negative to say about them. It just wasn't for her.

It was great. My former mother-in-law and father-in-law are there and they actually have like a 2 bedroom there. It's like a room and the companion room but they both stay in the same room even though he needs more care than she does. The staff worked very well. They actually went down and got him so that she could get the house ready to sell. They set up his chest xray and really took a load of grandmommy's mind in that whole process. They were very gentle with granddaddy. They've been very pleased. The food is terrific. I think they would like to have more transportation services but that's about it.

My mother and our family are pleased that we made the choice of Haverford's Sunrise Senior Living in July. It is conveniently located for us; my mother has established her living arrangement quite nicely; the meals are nutritious and delicious; and everyone on the staff is terrific! I wish that a back-up generator could be installed that would provide elevator service during a power outage. However, during the recent five hour power failure, we visited Sunrise, and all the residents seemed to be positively occupied and accounted for. Each person was quietly taken to his room at bedtime and settled in by flashlight! My mother was quite impressed.
