Sunrise Senior Living

Overall experience - Probably better than average for assisted living facilities, and being only 10 minutes from my home permitted daily visits. But my Mom begged every day to go back to her home, and after 7 weeks at Sunrise, I did as she asked and relocated her back to her home with a full time live in caregiver. Cleanliness - Overall very clean. Friendliness - Both staff and other residents were friendly, several exceptionally so. Quality of Care - Pretty good for an assisted living / memory care facility, but not a great fit for my Mom who requires more attention and is a "grazer" in terms of eating habits. Food - Per my preceding answer, my Mom eats several times per day and her tastes vary almost daily, causing her to often decline to eat what she was served causing her to lose weight. I did sample some meals, and I thought they were pretty good overall, maybe a C+ or B- Activities - There did appear to be several interesting activities offered, my Mom wanted to live at home and was demoralized by living in memory care, so she didn't participate in any activities. Value for Money - Especially after moving into memory care, the cost was running about double what I was later able to arrange in terms of live-in full-time care. If Mom had stayed, she would have exhausted her savings in less than a year. In summary, keeping Mom in her home is more economical and healthier for her. That said, I understand that her memory could someday reach a point where home care is no longer feasible. At that point we will reconsider assisted living / memory care.

The only intellectual stimulation is TV. There are only a smattering of men, my loved one did not receive PT until the last two weeks, and that was only because his sister and her husband joined me in confronting the director about all they had not provided to help him recover. Prior to his stay there, my loved one had spent three and a half weeks inpatient at Burke Rehabilitation hospital and he lost ground at sunrise.

Staff more individually engaged than other nursing facilities that I visit. Room sizes generous even for doubles. Allow for extras

The location and staff were the main reason we chose this facility. It is a great place.

It's quite a nice place. I don't love living in an institution, but the staff try very hard to make it nice. They do special meals for holidays. My apartment is very nice. But there's not much space for outdoor activities.

I met with [name removed] today for a tour of the Memory Care unit. [name removed] is very knowledgeable about all facets of Sunrise. I had questions about staffing and their credentials, personalized services, cost and activities. It was refreshing to understand how things work at Sunshine. We also took a tour of the Memory Care unit. It was well setup and had different floor plans. [name removed] made the extra effort to ensure i saw all the different rooms which was very helpful.

My MIL moved in when they opened this facility, and the move happened very quickly. There were several things going on with all of us. Sunrise went above and beyond to help us work through these issues; they even recommended a moving company that was able to help us out for a very quick move. The Dir of the Memory Care unit is excellent, and the woman who heads up the activities in this unit is incredible (her young children also get involved-it's lovely). We had an issue with the director, but she has since left the position. This has been a learning experience for us. MIL gets upset when she sees family, so we do not go over often, and we rely upon staff heavily. They use a SmileApp to keep in touch; it helps, though it has glitches. The billing system is not smooth. And a nasty surprise is that staff does not accompany a resident while the resident is in the ER, but that not a legal requirement in VA. The facility is lovely, thoughtfully laid out, and the food is excellent.

Staff is great except for the accounting office. You have to repeatedly email or call to get an answer from them. We picked this community because of the price, location, and size of the rooms.

I have found the people on the staff wonderful. They are so kind to my mom and are a pleasure to deal with. They communicate very well to me as the caretaker. Mom thinks they could communicate a little better with her. But she is also difficult to deal with so I can see why they come more to me. I'm very happy with sunrise. They are pretty expensive, we spend upwards of [removed] every month. But for this area the value is okay.

My interactions with the staff from my introduction to the community to now working with them as they care for my husband has been very positive. I feel heard and my concerns and requests are addressed respectfully and promptly.

The majority of staff members are caring and responsive. The energy is positive. This is an older building. Replacements are needed in the apartments. I would like to see a more robust response to maintaining and replacing worn out HVAC systems and plumbing issues, etc.

It's been okay. We picked this community because of the price.

My loved one has been a resident of Sunrise for approximately 2 years. She adjusted quickly to her new environment and is enjoying her new home. It gives us, as a family, a sense of peace knowing that she is happy and content. She loves being pampered by the staff. They are there to assist her in the morning when it’s time to bath and get dressed and when it’s time to get ready for bed at the end of the day. She loves having someone to prepare her meals and eating in a dining room full of other persons. She thinks she’s in a restaurant. Since my loved one joined the Sunrise Family, she has required additional assistance in some of her needs. The staff recognized these needs and made immediate adjustments. The staff makes sure she receives the medical attention she needs and is given her meds at the required times every day. Each staff member is responsible for a number of residents, but they make a concerted effort to give all of the them the same level of attention.

Overall very good, but very expensive compared to other facilities. But their level of care is higher and much more attentive. For people who need a lot of care, this is the place that will give it to them. It was already expensive and they raised our rates twice in less than one year, so that was not good. Not a lot of activities compared to other places (not enough organized trips outside the facility ), but for residents that need a lot of care they can't go out much anyway. Food is very good! Overall staff is good, had a few staff issues but not nearly as bad as the two other places my loved one was at. Cozy homey feel and not too large of a place. Overall very good place if your loved one needs a high level of care, but you will pay a lot for it!

Sunrise has been a pleasant surprise experience for myself and our family. This is not the first experience with nursing home care and none prior were acceptable. No place is perfect and not everyone gives of themselves in caring for the aging adults. But our experience with Sunrise has given myself some relief and concerns about how my mom is making it everyday. The staff present and past have exceeded my expectations. Without the care my mom is receiving, I'm not sure what type of existence we would be in today. I feel the Staff knows that we have the upmost respect for the manner in which they care for my mom. My recommendation for this facility is very high. As stated, no place is perfect but I have peace of mind knowing my mom is safe and cared for here.

My husband and I both still wish he was able to be here! Staff at Sunrise of Johns Creek are friendly; kind; helpful.

Sunrise, like most facilities, is breathtakingly expensive. And it has some issues. But overall I'd recommend it. Here's why: Sunrise does two-person transfers. Very few personal care facilities offer this. It also hires RNs for the director of nursing--a major step up from the LPNs almost every other in town facility hires. The food is consistently fresh and flavorful. That's a big deal. Residents get a wide variety of choices daily with food, with servers who take their orders and serve them just like what you'd expect at a restaurant. Rooms are bright and modern. The facility also has safety features, like an automatic firewall, few facilities have, and it has routine emergency drills for residents and staff. Residents get meds on time and as prescribed. That doesn't sound like a big deal, but you'd be surprised at places where staff don't give meds as they're intended. Sunrise does. Sunrise does have some staffing issues. Staff can be inaccessible and occasionally abrasive. For the amount of money paid per month by residents, that simply shouldn't happen. Management is working to resolve staffing issues. No place is perfect. Sunrise does have some issues. But on the whole, it's a good facility that gives good care to residents. I recommend it.

Honestly the facility is lovely and all the staff are super friendly and helpful. I saw one other and it was lovely as well with a slight higher cost but it had a shared bathroom. This facility was picked as it was very nice and had a private bathroom.

I would recommend.It was my dad's decision and that is what he chose. The services there are good.

View several places and try to have an idea if pt is memory care or not, view both and ask a lot of questions. They need to improve on Dr/nursing communication. It is better now but I had to go to admin more than once to get help.
