Sunrise Senior Living

The staff are consistently helpful and kind. They work very hard to make Sugar Valley a welcoming place They have hired a new cook and the food is generally tasty and appetizing. They also offer some alternatives if the main course is not appealing. They have had problems: The elevator has broken down for an extended period on at least 2 occasions and personally being on the third floor this presents a challenge to those confined to a wheelchair. This would also present a larger emergency in case of a fire. The shuttle van that I needed to use to my medical appointment broke down last week. Reportedly this has happened recently more than once. With the van being available only on Tuesday and Thursday (and Wednesday Morning), this is a very limited resource.\ I had to cancel a urine test at Kaiser Permanente. The maintenance staff is working hard to keep everything operational, but these two examples require outside repair resources. Thy have hired and lost their "activities coordinator" so nobody has been able to provide consistent service and any coordination of group activities. I have established a weekly poker night, and also I am working to provide much needed technical support as a weekly one hour session in the library. We have had nobody available for months to staff the business office so any billing issues or leasing issue have to be handled by offsite staffers. Currently, our main manager is taking personal time off so we are even more understaffed. The people living here are thoughtful and look out for each other. They organize events on their own, like the community choir, and other events. I have been pleased with the level of cleanliness and functionality of the facilities. Our cleaning staff work very hard to keep the place clean and fresh.

It is definitely meant for an older population who have higher care needs. the activities are enjoyable while managing the capabilities of their residents. Staff are kind and helpful, though there doesn't seem to be enough of them sometimes and the response time can be long. But to the staffs credit I've never seen anyone sitting around waiting or wasting time

Sunrise in Decatur is close to where I live which turned out to be a must. My dad’s Parkinson’s had advanced and we realized his condition was more than we could manage. The apartment we decided on is enough space for both my parents. The adjustment has been bumpy. The staff have listened to my mom’s concerns and questions. The food is really good but my dad’s puréed diet has been just ok. The ambiance of the facility is very nice. The staff have been attentive and helpful though they do seem understaffed some weekends. I would recommend for a family to look at Sunrise but every families’ needs are different.

Pretty nice facilities. Staff is very friendly and professional. Very attentive to matching my mom's everyday living and medical needs. My only complaint is their fees as they charge for everything such as bed paddings, incontinence underwear, and wipes also ointments for rashes.

Very nice place with nice caregivers. Food in dining room is not great and not an abundance of activities. Overall a nice place but limited options for daily activities and food. Very friendly and helpful staff. Large apartments available which is a nice option.

The staff was fantastic - before, during, and after. The activities were great (an Elvis impersonator!!). The food was good. The facility was clean, but there was a bit of a smell.

Overall they provide well for my mother. The place is comfortable, clean and the food is acceptable. The only big problem is the with the help. The management seems to care but many of the better workers have left. Turnover seems to be high. A few of the workers have poor attitudes and can be rude at times.

A few things that stood out the most - It's very clean. The staff are very friendly. They quickly recognized me and they enjoy having my father around.

It has improved since we got there last October. It is still very expensive. I like how they interact with the residents. They genuinely seem to care. I don't want to criticize them.

Great place to start. I didn't know where to begin looking for a retirement home for my stepdad. I would recommend

These are my take on it with some of his comments. Overall, I think it's lovely, right? Unfortunately, he just wants to be in his own home. So he's not the happiest, but yeah, the facilities are nice. Most of the people are very nice. There's always a few that he doesn't get along with. anything. And I don't think he'll want his on it. I think the staff is all very friendly and stuff. But there's always some staff members that are less friendly than others. And the food for the most part is awesome. It just, i've heard that at certain times depending on who's cooking, the food's not always the best. But my cousin is a bit picky.

Very clean, staff very nice except for the occasional few. Food good. Couple times ran out of clean towels. Once misdiagnosed. Kind of expensive.

[name removed] the head of nursing is the BEST!!. Our loved one is picky but Overall great place. Expensive but going rate for Naperville. Yes! We would recommend this community to other families. One of the reasons we chose this place for my mother was because the residents genuinely seem to enjoy being there.

Love the staff. They know me (his daughter) and my dad my name and sight Cleanliness is ok. Dining my dad loves the food. He does not do any of the activities at this time. We do not like needing to pay $12 a meal when he can't come to breakfast because he has insomnia and does not sleep well at all. Its already a heavy cost to use assisted living.

I am impressed with the cleanliness. Not much interaction with the staff. Always welcoming though. Going with a 4 on meals and dining. MY Mom says lots of sausage is served. I am not there...could be wrong. But dinner g room is welcoming. I don't know the young man's name who helps setup tables -clear tables and serve but he is really nice and respectful. I am very pleased with the surroundings, cleanliness...interaction of staff. I know they have a very diverse group of people with different needs. The outdoor surroundings are beautiful. So far I am pleased.

Sunrise of Holbook's staff appears friendly and caring and they are also adequately staffed. The laundry is always done and promptly returned to the room. The major difference of Sunrise Assisted Living is their ability to give medical services and provide insulin injections. The nursing staff are very competent and reliable . The facility is clean and resident's are well taken care of. The food is apparently good. The only reason for a rating of 4 instead of 5 is because of my feelings that there is minimal activities. I do believe the age, physical and mental capabilities of the residents because of the need for medical attention limits their ability to participate and be more involved. They do attempt to go out on the bus once a week for a limited number.

These numbers represent a totality of my limited experience. The facility is bright and open. There are a couple of areas which could be repaired and/or cleaned up. The staff, with very few exceptions, are friendly and helpful. I have no way of knowing if my husband is receiving 3 showers a week as requested as he is not a reliable source of information. His grooming could use some care. The activities seem a little haphazard, but again, I visit only for a few hours every other day. With further communication and experience, I'm hoping that my evaluation improves. You can certainly say Sunrise is a bright and cheerful community, with a friendly and helpful staff.

Overall, Sunrise is a very nice long term facility for Assisted Living & for Memory Care. The facility is beautiful & nicely decorated. It looks like a big mansion from the outside & on the inside Assisted Living section (wide porch, lobby area, TV room, café & dining room). In the Memory Care locked down unit, the combined dining room/activities room is spacious & also nicely decorated. The gated garden is very safe, quiet, relaxing & feels like you are in a country setting with plenty of covered shaded seating. It's a nice area to sit with family, weather permitting. The bedrooms are a nice size, depending on which type of room is chosen. The food is mostly good with alternative choices. The care is excellent, with many staff members working there for several years. On the downside, Memory Care pricing with add ons (depending on medication level, etc.) is expensive. The online Auto Payment system including notification updates needs improvement.

Lots of activities. Care givers treat the parents very well! They seem to really care! This is one of the few places that accept both parents being at two different level of care. One needing skilled nursing and one just needing assisted living. Flip side they nickel and dime everything possible. Increased prices on level of care without discussion. Levels that weren't never brought up when we initially put the parents there. Communication is an item that they def need to work on.
