Grossmont Gardens review

Mostly everything about the Grossmont Gardens has been a great experience. Based on our experience we would recommend this community to other families looking for a community for their loved ones

Grossmont Gardens review

This community has really good activities for the clients, they even take them on some field trips. The staff insisted we provide an electric Hoyer life, which costs more and was harder for us to locate. .

Happy with our choice

I ended up going to 12 different care facilities before choosing Laguna. It was just the overall feel and cost comparison that made Laguna the one I went with. Going into assisted living for the first time has been an eye opener for me and my Mom, and we continue to have a lot of questions and concerns as we go. The staff at Laguna Estates takes the time to listen and address whatever questions/concerns we have without getting defensive. They seem to genuinely care for the residents and they want them to be happy there.

The community was nice and very clean. The only staff I interacted with was the front desk or director. There was no opportunity to tour when I was there.

Our family had an in-person tour and we thought the tour experience was very nice and positive but the building was older with less space and natural light.

friendly and attentive caregivers and staff

our dad has been a resident at Sterling Court for about four years. He loves the caregivers and front desk staff. As his family we like that we get to enjoy the fun activities too. Recently our Dad's health has declined and is bed-bound now but the caregivers and other staff including med techs, are very patient and attentive to his needs

good community and beautiful grounds

Grossmont gardens is on beautiful grounds in la Mesa. Very kind staff. Building is slightly outdated but being worked on. Lots of effort in the food department. Safe. Caring. Responsive. Lots of activities. Prices went up a bit but still a better value than most private pay.

Buyer Beware

They have a good closer that moves you in, but after that, you'll have to read the small print to find out what exactly you've signed. You're signing 40 pages, so you gloss over things assuming that it'll all be on the up and up, but it's pretty much all in their favor. I assumed there would be more communication, so I'd know what's going on with my loved one. I don't know if they have a program like other places, where you can log in and see what your loved one is up to. I always had to hunt down someone and it was never the same person as the day before. That might just be the nature of these communities as my loved one is at a new place, but we're still having the same issue with communication. You have to work too hard to find out what's going on. Sometimes you do get an answer, but most times you're struggling.

We toured at Plateau Village Memory Care and found nothing wrong. We just didn’t click with the staff as much as we did at another place.

Would recommend - ask specific questions

We tried to hone in on every detail as best we could since we were new to senior living. We asked a lot of questions, which they answered, but they didn't provide insight otherwise. I would recommend being very diligent in asking questions to receive necessary information since they provide only basic information when you ask. Regarding the staff, the caregivers and maintenance were awesome. I thought management and accounting needed improvement.

Supportive and Caring

We really have enjoyed Grossmont Gardens. My father has gone from assisted living to the skilled nursing side. I've just found them to be very caring and supportive of me, and I've really appreciated their help.

Nice Community, Too Expensive

My loved one liked the staff. It is a very nice community but expensive. The staff calls all the time to keep me updated on my loved one. The prices kept increasing. We also had to bring our own furniture to decorate the room, and they didn't tell us about this.

It is a beautiful facility but the staff is not communicating with the patients like that should

Some of the staff members are extremely friendly, and some not so much. They tend to make promises that they are not able to follow through which can aggravate our loved one since she needs help with making her bed and cleaning and sometimes they do not come when they say. The facility is very nice and our loved one has a beautiful room, and she has made it up to feel like home. Unfortunately due to covid they have had no activities and the dining room is closed. We do wish they would of sat down with our loved one in the beginning to help better explain how things work around the community. The price is reasonable and this community has really large apartments.

A place that helps you help your loved one

The staff members are great, they are very nice people. Our loved one always seemed to enjoy the meals, and the chef even did individual meal plans for the new residents. When it came to the activities they were limited due to covid, but they did have small group circles and we could tell they had good efforts and intentions.

Look closely

We chose Brookdale Magnolia because the convenience of the facility, I was able to visit often. The room sizes here were decent compared to some others that we looked into, it had more than enough room for him. The food is something that could use improvement, they were all frozen and canned foods so the there was no fresh meals. They did always have activities going on for residents to participate in. Overall, I would not recommend the community.
