Awesome staff, but facility is a little dated. Ideal location for those who're more budget conscious.

The food was oversold to us from the beginning. The people were very nice. Place was clean. Food was ok. Non-refundable $3500 fee for activities seemed like a big rip off.

The memory-care rooms were very small but very expensive. There is a basic charge for the room(s), but at a certain point during a resident's digressions, nursing care is extra--up to an extra $1,000 a month. There was a strong urine smell in the hallway and in one of the vacated rooms I visited. The dining area looked clean, but it didn't look like one would expect for a facility that costs as much as this one does. Residents who need to see a doctor see a nurse practitioner.

My mother-in-law is paying $5000 at this place, and she is being robbed. Someone stole her credit card and made purchases. They wrote checks out of her checkbook. They stole her most coveted stuffed animal. WTF? they are likely stealing diapers and cash, too but that one is harder to prove. They have been zero help and have not offered any reparations.

The Sheridan at Birmingham is probably as good as other assisted living facilities. The aides on whom I depend range in attitude and performance from surly to outstanding. I am lucky if an aide is neutral —neither helpful nor sadistic . The facility is new and pleasing in decor, although I find it cold and modern,, as opposed to warm and welcoming. I’ve been here only four weeks and admit to resisting acceptance, but losing one’s husband and home are big adjustments for a 79-year-old with a diagnosis of a condition that has no cure. The management appears to be open to criticism and eager to improve conditions, but an aide cannot be forced to be caring. In general the aides here are not well trained, nor are they made aware of one’s particular problems. Most of my aides didn’t know that I couldn’t walk until I had been here for several weeks.

The move in process was disappointing in that no one from the facility was present to guide or direct us. I will admit we started the process on a Sunday, so that may explain part of the issue. However, after we moved in, no one came to greet my dad, neither did anyone give a sufficient orientation as to procedures, activities, and policies. The bottom line is we have found communication to be greatly lacking. For example, dad has been there about 5 months and the Executive Director has never even stopped by his apartment to welcome or check on him. The biggest complaint we have is the food quality. It is so bad that even some of the staff members say it is terrible. Food is almost always cold, service in the dining room is poor and a lot of the food appears to be right out of the can. Having said all that, generally we are happy with the facility and would recommend it. Just know, you have to be rather proactive in order to make the experience acceptable.

I lived there for a year and very happy to have left this place. I rate the quality of the food mediocre at best. In the restaurants, service goes from excellent to poor. Walked out many times because of poor service. I have a friend (needing help), my observations poor. Don’t bother complaining to management because they don’t reply to letters. Looks good on the outside. Big staff turnover.

At this time the apartments available were not as accessible as we wished. It seemed a bit pricey from what little I have researched so far.

Community is older but very well maintained, therefore darker. However, we were told they were getting ready to start some renovations, first in the public areas. Great location, waiting list, friendly staff. Apartments have not been updated, as they'd indicated they have very little turnover causing an inopportunity to update appliances etc. Approximately 13-15 years.

My mother lived at Senior Star at Weber Place for 2.5 years in the Independent Living side of the facility. The place is clean, staff friendly and they plan many activities. Although attendance at activities is low, they do not do anything much to change this which I found unfortunate. My mother was unable to eat the food as it gave her diarrhea and they were unwilling to reduce her fees at all. When my mother stopped going to the dining room, they stopped doing her evening calls to make sure she was okay. I had to stay on them to ensure they provided the evening check in calls; they seemed to just want to assume my mother was okay even though she has a history of falling. Additionally, the helpfulness of the front desk declined compared to when my mother first moved in; I think this was due to staff turnover. Finally, when you move out be sure to document or photograph the unit. Even though the only "damage" to the carpet was 1 coffee stain (which could be removed with a steam cleaning), they keep our $500 security deposit. When I spoke to them about this, they claimed other damage which my family knows wasn't present to support their keeping the full security deposit. And, I don't know what I did with our copy of the moving out walk through paper. I gave them 3 stars because it is a good place, but there were some things we were not happy with.

The evenings are incredibly boring. Popping in a movie most nights and calling it an activity is wrong. Card nights often don't have enough people to have a game. There doesn't seem to be any interest in attempting to add anything to the evening roster. There are often LONELY residents walking around bored, looking for ANYTING AT ALL to do!

High turnover of staff and place looked dirty; ant traps all over the place; residents looked dirty. They seem to cater to Independent & Assisted residents, Memory care residents not so much.

Charges to much, Nice place, Dinner at Fie pm, clean, entertainment, no bar.

The tour was good. We feel that the population is a little too old for us and did not like the limited time for meals. Also, there wasn't any choices at meal time.

Staff is great, could use more care staff. Office and desk people are great+friendly. Very comparable facility.

Facility was clean and peaceful. Staff were pleasant. Dining area seems crowded.

Has layout and facilities similar to other senior living places, for special dinners the food is very good. However the biggest complaint I hear is about the quality+quantity of food served at regular meals. It also seems to be more expensive than other places I have visited.
