I toured this community for my mother and her needs. Everything went well for the most part. One of the main things I was looking for in a community for my mother, was how secure it was. I needed to know she was safe and not able to get out the community whenever she wants too. This community was not secure, and it wouldn't be a good fit for my mother and her needs.

I toured this community for my mother and her needs. The community looked very nice. Everything looked neat and tidy. The staff was friendly and nice. The community is nice and big. Everything is went well, and my tour was nice.

It is a great dinning experience and comfortable living at this community. They have a great physical therapy program that has helped my love one improve everyday. I was not happy that there was some confusion between the staff on services I had paid for that where not given to mother as promised.

Very impressive; however, can't turn around in very small shower stalls! Also, toilets are standard "low" variety rather than the higher "senior" toilets found with some competitors. These are "deal-breakers" for us. Otherwise, we really liked this one.

I did not like this place it is too old and they only have Studios . It is not a place for the my husband parents

My experience with The Haven has been somewhat mixed, but generally I think things are improving. I had an issue with the cleanliness of the facility when my loved one first moved here, but after some suggestions they have improved their cleaning procedures that isn't an issue any longer. I also think they have some issues with being understaffed, especially on the weekends. They are satisfactory in terms of care, and I don't think it is a bad place, but there is a lot of room for improvement.

At first the staff was great, very attentive but after a year and several personal changes I don't see the same level of care. My dad is in memory unit and room mostly bathroom is not kept clean. They do have some of the best prices but wish the level of care could be better.

This is an independent living facility, care services are not provided. The apartments are a good size and provide adequate storage space. The kitchen, although small with few drawers and cabinets, is adequate since the apartment residents are required to pay for 3 meals per day. The cleaning services are inconsistent, especially if your service is on a Monday. You are not permitted to request a new cleaning person if the one assigned to you does not meet your standards. The most disappointing aspect of the facility is the food quality and preparation. Breakfast is usually the most acceptable meal. Lunch (main meal) and dinner choices are limited, often unhealthy, repetitive and poorly prepared (too salty, served cold, covered with gravies, overlooked). Residents who have the initiative and social skills can keep busy on site. They can organize activities in space provided. Some activities are set by the social director. She is often busy providing many other services; occasional, bus driver, front desk substitute, etc. There are off site shopping, lunch, and other trips for residents who have few mobility issues.

My tour was great but all rooms were on the second floor or higher so that is why we didn't place my loved one here. The Villas at Canterfield had a really nice and friendly staff.

We liked the look of Southlake and the friendly people - staff and residents smiled and greeted us in the hallways. Mom liked that the common spaces were smaller, providing intimate spaces for groups like arts & crafts or for sitting and reading. Every apartment has a small kitchen and its own laundry facilities with larger machines available for blankets or comforters (in common laundry rooms). This is an independent community but there are many residents who use walkers. We were surprised that the curbs around the building didn't have accessible ramps or cuts to accommodate those. We were told curb cuts will be done in the near future - we hope they will provide dedicated spaces for walkers or wheelchairs to access the parking lot or grounds. The one curb cut we saw was in front of a parking space where a car was parked, blocking access. We like the idea of renting an apartment and "aging in place" although it was stressed that only short term care would be allowed since they are not an assisted care facility. We hoped that if/when Mom needs help showering or dressing for a few hours a day (no medical care involved) that she could still live there. Not sure that's as accepted as it has been at other places we visited. The spaces felt quite open, but we were disappointed there were few balconies available in the apartments. Storage was a big concern; not much closet space and no storage units/spaces provided on site.

My parent has been at Elmcroft for a while now. The facility is beautiful but while the common areas are always clean getting the units cleaned is sometimes difficult. You have to ask several times. Daily activities are prominently displayed but if you are there at the given time they don't always occur. The menu is not always healthy, soup is often served as a first course and it is almost always high in sodium, not good for a heart patient. When you hear from the nursing director regarding a health issue or a concern you are not given clear data, but a "that's what the staff has told me" remark. If you are looking to place a parent who is fairly independent it would work well. For a parent who needs some assistance you might want to get in writing, clearly spelled out, what you will receive, before you commit. You are often presented with a service (such as medicine) that makes you wonder if Elmcroft is receiving a kick back. Look at the entire package carefully.

I didn't care for because it was too quiet. It's for a lot of patients that have advanced dementia. There weren't enough activities to keep them full of life.

We knew that was going to be temporary, it was too expensive to stay and not enough privacy. I think that it was kind of difficult for her to get help sometimes and get attention when she needed to go to the bathroom. I don't understand why she couldn't have a bedside toilet when she was having such a hard time with incontinence. It really depends on what you are looking for, and we didn't understand that at the time. They do almost no rehabilitation, and that is really what she needed.

it was going to be my second choice, it's literally around the corner from my house but then it had some things about it I didn't care for. It's kind of run down, the carpeting on the floor was very stained and the staff there just stood around like they didn't really care about what they were doing and I was going to go back and visit again because I thought it was just a weird down and I was really turned off by what I saw of it. It was dinner time and the staff, when they were feeding the residents really turtned me off by the way they were interacting with them.

Visited here about a year ago...was not impressed with the activity - seemed like Mom wasn't ready for this confining level yet. Did not keep price info. May need to revisit if we cannot figure out a way to afford Summerville Estates

Horizon Bay is an assisted living and memory care facility. We toured this establishment on Wednesday August 14th. Within minutes of our arrival, Janet Aldridge greeted us and we commenced the tour. This place is quite large and has 2 floors. We started on the first floor. There are basically no hallways for residents to get lost or turned around in. All the rooms seem to face a large open area so as soon as a door is opened a person can see where they are with no hallways to look at. It is very well appointed, with nice furniture, airy, pretty quiet and quite clean. The staff on the first floor all seemed to be in good spirits, with lots of smiles. The rooms we saw were fairly spacious and nicely furnished. Residents can decorate however they want. A television is not provided but there are no cost Comcast hookups. Overall the first floor and part of the second were very nice. Also on the second floor is an area (it is called Brookdale) for the residents with memory problems. This area is behind locked doors, and as soon as one enters, the lower quality of the furnishings and general look of this area becomes apparent. It is not nearly as 'palatable' as the first floor. This is not to assume that the care given here is of any less quality as in other areas, but the physical impression of Brookdale leads one to think that. I did not see any prices listed for the assisted living area, but prices in Brookdale are $4600 for a private studio and 3900 for a shared studio. I am not sure what constitutes 'assisted living' but it appears to be what is catered to here. My wife is a heart attack/stroke victim and has lost a lot of control of her body (she is incontinent) and mind. I did not see or hear one mention of the word incontinence...and I forgot to ask. Anyway, I came away with an overall good impression of Horizon Bay, but the Brookdale area was a let-down. Respite is available at a flat rate of $165.00 per day, but the minimum is 14 days, which makes this feature quite expensive, at least for me.
