A Place for Mom has scored Spring Arbor Senior Living with 8.6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 393 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, Spring Arbor Senior Living has 1,301 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 4.5 out of 5.
Since acquired by Sandhills in Feb, rating 1. During the transition my husband was getting fewer showers due to being combative.. Staffing was erratic but came across 2 female aides on separate occasions who had no difficulties. Rare to find implementation of proper approach techniques. Director discretion seemed diminished. New protocol seemed to require ALL parties in any incident be transported to Emergency. Seems like you pay as much for incompetency as competency. Feel like a pawn in a shell game

This place is the worst, disgusting, rude and impatient staff. The laundry list of evidence we have with lack of cleaning, showering and the rude staff is insane. There’s no compassion for the elderly people living here that are confused and scared. Lack of empathy and patience. The staff is lazy when we go in a lot of times they’re standing around or sitting doing nothing. No engagement with the people living there and rooms are dirty, people are sitting all day soiled in their clothes. Completely unacceptable. Steer clear of this place!

Would not recommend for a person with memory care. They are understaffed and pushy. That is what set my husband off 3 times and told not to come back. They ripped me off for my payment. He is doing so much better at his new facility. Not as fancy but he is gaining weight back and they even take him places. It was a mess from the start. The people are always out eating somewhere instead of doing the job. Rating of poor for memory care and the manager [name removed] has no empathy.

Horrible place!!!! Memory Care is what I’m writing this review on! Our mom was placed here November and we pulled her out end of May…way too long!!! Food is HORRIBLE! Staff is lazy and as long as you don’t mind your loved one eating in a dining room with dirty depends lying on the floor I would recommend you look elsewhere! Christmas morning she ended up with a broken wrist and no one knows HOW…WiFi is horrible…just DO NOT LEAVE YOUR LOVED ONE HERE!

I'm afraid I do not have a high opinion of Rosewood Village. My husband was admitted to their memory care unit in [date removed]. He was assigned an unfurnished one bedroom apartment, so I hired movers to transport his furniture. He was at Rosewood for 23 days when he got aggressive at a community meal and started throwing things around. The facility sent him to the Emergency room to have him checked out. The Dr at the ER checked him over thoroughly and found nothing wrong other than his dementia. By then, it was late at night. The ER called Rosewood to tell them that [name removed] was on his way back. Rosewood refused to take him back. Didn't even suggest that we work with his medicines to reduce his aggression. In the middle of the night I had nowhere to take him other than back home which was very confusing for him. I had to hire movers to transport all of his furniture back home. I was not able to place him in another facility until over 30 days later. He finally went to [community removed], where the staff were told about his aggression and were willing to work with him to adjust his meds properly. He has been at [community removed] over a year now, and gets excellent care. I cannot understand why a place like Rosewood, who agrees to house dementia patients, would throw them out at a first incident. I would never recommend Rosewood to anyone!

[name removed] was the intake specialist. She was very nice and helpful. Once my mom was in facility she got an UTI very quickly and was sent to hospital and then moved from assisted living to memory care. Days later the staff allowed an unauthorized niece to unlawfully take my mom out of the memory care facility against my wishes. I was the POA for my mom. Needless to say the story is much longer but I was highly disappointed in the staff and Director. The Director left his employment very soon after. Whether he resigned or was fired is unknown to me. I would not refer anyone to that facility ever!

The friendliness of the staff was Initially 5, Then reality set in for a 1. Did only the basics. Sat behind the desk and called out to clients to correct them. Rarely saw them doing anything except gossiping with one another. My Mother was on the Memory care side and we got calls daily about her walking around (She had a compulsion to walk). They wanted them sitting in the common TV area or in their rooms. All the promises of therapy and activities were smoke and mirrors. Their idea of exercise class was turning a video on the TV with no supervision or help to participate in the exercises. We moved her after a few months to a new facility that held to their promises. She escaped the locked facility twice. Luckily the grounds keeper brought her back in. A locked facility! When we received the call they acted as if it were our fault. That was the last straw. We would have removed her sooner but, the search and wait list kept us from being able to move her. We had such high hopes and were so relieved and trusting that they truly cared and wanted to provide the best care for our Mother. Unfortunately that was not the case. I would recommend you avoid this facility if your loved one has any form of dementia and cannot participate in their care

I do not recommend this facility. Weak and unresponsive management paired with declining service is not worth the very high price. This is a beautiful facility that makes promises they do not keep. Whether it be promised IT support and help with computers, TVs and phones, a ride to the doctor or store, or assistance when a medical emergency occurs, none of it meets basic standards. Just over 18 months now and repairs from a water main break in a wing of the facility have not been completed. What has been "completed" work to repair walls, molding and trim is shoddy. And I just found out they have been serving the "gourmet" dinners using paper plates and plastic ware. Numerous complaints to Management are ignored. What is my Mother-in-Law paying for?

My opinion was it was a very nice looking place. She was there two days they sent her to hospital and then notified me she couldn't come back so I had to move her again. Last year was horrific. They made it even worse. Get an elder care lawyer to teach you the steps. Most people have no idea what they are doing and are desperately looking for guidance.

This review is specifically regarding the memory care component, not the entire building. The sales managers will say and do anything to get you to pay the [fee removed] entry fee and move your loved one to their care. After we explained, repeatedly, that Dad needed medication to help him rest and combat his Lewy Body Dementia hallucinations, they assured us that their geriatric psychologist would see him right away and get him started with medication. This never happened. Instead, they insisted that the man who entered the building walking independently for 80% of the day (and using a rolling walker the other 20%) needed to use a wheelchair "for safety", and did not address the sleeping problems or hallucinations until Dad "started causing problems with other residents". Just one week in, they hospital dumped him at our least preferred hospital in the area and told us he could not return. There is a reason the Memory Care unit's nursing supervisor left, and a reason so many rooms empty.

I would not recommend this facility. The reality is that you are only as good as your employees and that is were the challenges are. Some of the employees are not interested in working hard for the residents as their hearts weren't in it. More interested in staying on their phones, tablets, etc. Food and cleaning are subpar. They try to charge extra via a point system as much as possible and raise rates yearly but do not take care of their people. Seem to only be interested in their occupancy rates, ie. more money coming in monthly. Too many challenges to justify the cost. Again, I would not recommend.

Alto may be ok if a person is mobile, but other than that not. The second day my mom was there, someone defecated on her bathroom walls. It couldn't have been my mom, since she couldn't get up on her own. The bad thing is that none of the staff was going to clean it. The room smelled absolutely horrible and they told me the cleaning staff left already (this was 5pm). I had to keep going to different people until finally a nurse cleaned it since the aides refused. If I wasn't there, they would have left it until the next day. My mom got fractured back there, and they said no fall occurred. I got there and I could see my mom was in extreme pain. They were only going to give her Tylenol and said the doctor was not able to be reached. I made them call an ambulance and sure enough she had fractured vertebrae with ligament damage. My mom thought she had to pee a lot and the staff would get mad because they were short handed. My mom's memory was bad, but she did remember traumatic things. When her back got fractured, I asked if she fell and she said no, which matched what Alto said. However she said "They were mean to me when I couldn't pee". Fractured backs could occur just from odd movements with osteoporosis, but my mom also has ligament damage so something happened, which was denied. I am guessing that the staff may have put her back into her chair aggressively after she didn't pee, but I will never know. If I was to do it all over, I would have a camara installed in the room. It is probably the only way to better protect your loved one.

I would not recommend sending anyone to the Dominion. First, we paid extra for my father to have the call button since he was an one person assist to help him in the bathroom in the shower. What would a typical older person do if they press the call button that they wear around their neck, and no one comes? people would push the call button again, correct? Well at their senior living facility if you press it a second time, the call button is turned. They also told my father to quit pushing the call button and took it away from him. That is bullshit! Secondly, as I stated earlier, my father was a one person assist. They refused to help him on and off the toilet. They refused to help him take a shower. I honestly believe that putting my father in the dominion contributed to an earlier death. When he was admitted the last time to the hospital, he was diagnosed with malnutrition in dehydration. and where was he living at that time? The Dominion. My father was supposed to start physical therapy within 10 days of the start of his residency, that did not occur. My father was also supposed to be on insulin and blood thinners at his stay at the Dominion. They were not giving him insulin or his blood thinners because I don't know why they could never tell me the reason why he could not get his medicine. The memory care unit at the dominion is a joke, the ones that were in diapers, wet and smelly diapers all day. They were only nice when they knew somebody was around. The first day we moved my father in, my son press the call button. No one came so he gave them a a bad review on Google. The next day I went to go visit my father I get called into the office and got yelled at because of a review that my son put based on his experience with his grandfather at this living senior facility, I'm sure I can go on for another 10 pages, but in my personal experience, this place needs to be shut down.

My friend stayed only one (1) night at the Dominion. Although we didn’t know it at the time, she was beginning to deteriorate badly, both physically as well as mentally. After falling three times her second day there, I was called and told she was being taken to FRM=C; they were afraid she’d broken her hip. The next day, I was called and told she could not return to the Dominion. I’m still waiting for a partial refund of her first month’s rent, more than two months after she left the facility and three weeks after she died.

My loved one was sick with an infection and they sent her out to the ER and they said she had a stomach virus and sent her back to Wickshire. My loved one called me the next day to say she still didn't feel well and was throwing up until the next time and that she needed to go to the hospital again. The girl is going to say that all they can do is send her right back. Long story short it took my mom to continuously throw up and her blood pressure to sky rocket in order to be sent back to the hospital and now she is sick there. More staff and better doctors to check on the patients would be an improvement. They could also have a cleaner facility and cheaper prices for their care.
