Spectrum Retirement

This place was nice, but we smelled urine upon entering which was off-putting. The studios were nice, but the companions suited were very tiny. Also, the price was month to month for 1yr then you just had a feeling it was going to go up significantly in one year. We were impressed w/the staff and the facilities and the interaction w/the clients.

Very very nice facility. Loved the apartments.

I think the sales rep who was showing us around on the tour was very new because she was getting lost walking us around. If she was getting lost we figured mom would definitely get lost. I think it was a good facility but it was just the layout that was a little confusing.

My parents hate it there. What The Enclave says it is is not what it actually is. They have a good sales pitch - but the food is awful. The workers are not very nice, especially at the front desk. It's just not a good place.

Felt was a decent tour with this facility. Living space in the rooms was good sized, clean and updated.

They've had a couple of management changes, but the change was for the better. I've seen a huge improvement with the changes that have occurred over the past 6 months. With any place that you put your loved one, do your research and try to talk with as many people there who aren't already set to speak with you during the tour. I'm just learning all this myself after looking after a couple loved ones, but that's how you will actually figure out things about the community. Get to know the Director of Nursing, [name removed], and her assistant if you need them. As well as the Director, [name removed], because they will help you out...so be friendly to them. They'll give you direct access whereas other places don't. Great job on the noticeable improvements - keep striving for excellence!

Our mother really loves the Westerville community center that is just down the road from the community and all of the staff members have been super nice and friendly. We did have one issue that occurred over the weekend where our loved one reached out to maintenance for assistance but nobody responded to that until the beginning of the week - that has been the only complaint we have had. Based on our overall experience so far we would absolutely recommend this community to other families.

We are very happy with Shawnee Hills. My loved one fell on the sidewalk since they were not repaired and that has been the hardest part. To me some of the activities are not appropriate or geared towards the age group. They are celebrating gay pride month and took the residents to a local bar where men dress like women, that just does not seem like something this age group would really care to do. We know that they are doing the best that they can with what they have.

The meals are extremely unsatisfactory. The preparation of the meals varies; some are good, but most are not. I think the staff are very friendly and helpful. Los Soleras is a spectrum community and corporate dictates what kind of kind food they can buy and its not of high quality. I would say that's my biggest complaint and if you ever sit in dining room you will hear others complaining as well. It's not a cheap place to live, so the food should be much better than what it is.

In the beginning, it was a little rough. When my loved one first moved in, there was a turnover in management. But everything worked itself out as far as getting her settled in. Right now, they are short-staffed, so there are a couple of issues around dining, which they are working to resolve. They've had good communication with our family, especially through Covid. Their safety protocols have been good. Overall we're very pleased with how they're handling things now.

This is a fairly new community and they have a problem with management getting things taken care of. Garbage pilled up, housekeeping not done and repairs falling behind. There was just a lack of response form corporate to the individuals.

Like the rest of the country, I feel like they're struggling to keep employees. When we first started at Burr Ridge, everything was better because they were better staffed. But the residents and staff are all wonderful. They're very pleasant and friendly, and willing to go out of their way to help you. They're making an effort to keep things clean, and I've even seen management cleaning. As far as entertainment activities go, it's not the best, likely due to Covid. They've just started back up doing activities, and there are still medical guidelines and restrictions. I'm hoping that we'll continue to see positive improvements as things go back to some semblance of normal. Overall I feel like we got a good deal and that the value is good here.

The location is very convenient for our family, and we do know they are still not taking the residents our on field trips just yet. The one improvement they could make would be with their communication and returning phone calls.

The food is deplorable according to my mother in law and her friends. They have nice size rooms. The concierge is great. They don't always listen to the residents. They have an outdoor space for residents. The staff that I have met are very friendly. In the last 6-8 months, the food has gone downhill. Everything is overcooked. They often forget things like salad dressing, milk, salt, and pepper, and even when reminded they don't bring it out.

My Mom, a resident of Gardens at Ocotillo, was temporarily spending time in a rehab facility. It wasn't until I would go from rehab facility back to Gardens at Ocotillo that it hit me how clean, bright, and full of life Gardens is. When you walk in, you feel as if you are in a hotel. It always smells clean, and the decorations and bright light flooding in make you feel happy to be there! The staff is kind and helpful, and always engages with my Mom and step-dad.

The facility is beautiful and the people are nice. However, since October 2019 the selection of food in the dinning room has drastically declined. There used to be 2-3 selections each day plus an "all the time menu". Now there is one main course selection each meal. The dinning room is running out of the main course even when you get to dinner as early as 5:30. This is so disappointing!! I have a medical need that this facilities great menu ( now gone) assisted me in fullfilling in a health way. Plus WE PAY AN ARM AND LEG TO LIVE HERE, WHERE'S THE BEAUTIFUL MENU?? House keeping forgets to come unless you remind them.

As much as love as I know they provide to my family member every single day there I do feel some issues as no place will ever be perfect. My family member does not always change clothes every day which was on her list to provide. In addition, some times her bed is not made and bathroom cleaned until I ask for housekeeping. I love all the entertainment and activities but would love more variety especially on Sundays seems like a lull in events. Movies at night are not amazing so hoping they can get more musicals as so many residents love music. More outings would be nice as they look forward to them!

It is a beautiful place with great food. I really appreciate the dedicated and long-term staff who have always been very kind to my mother.
