While our loved one has been there this community has gone through many changes. The food in the beginning was okay, but now it has just gone downhill. The value is right on point and luckily we were able to get in at a discounted rate, however we now are having issues with the billing side of things. Also, a lot of the staff members there are temp workers.

Poor Processes and Bad Medication Management, Amongst Other Things

My parents lived there for four months. We moved them out because they didn't receive the high level of service they were promised. During the sales meeting they will tell you that the transition to assisted living can be difficult for some people, but they don't explain that it's more than an emotional transition and they don't make an effort to help you avoid transitional difficulties. Our main issue was medication management. My parents are on a lot of meds. They told us to bring in the meds on the day they moved in. We did, but then they withheld meds for several days while they attempted to get orders from the physicians. All of that could have been done before move-in, but they made no effort to do that. Any time I took my parents to a physician and received new meds, it was difficult to get them to dispense the meds if I didn't have a written doctor's order. Near the end of our 4 months they finally gave us a form for the doctor to fill out when we went, but that should have been provided the day we moved in! They often waited until only 3 or 4 doses of medication were left before reordering, but my parents used a mail service (as do many residents) that would take 7-10 days for an order to arrive. That meant that they would need to order from a local pharmacy, which increased the cost to my parents. When I moved my parents out I had two prescriptions I had to get locally because they had failed to order from the mail order service in sufficient time for me to have more than about 4 days' worth of the medications. Also, there was more than one occasion when my mother had to instruct the med tech on the medication or delivery method for a medication for herself or my dad. Thank goodness my mother had the mental capacity to know what was supposed to happen and could report the need for a correction! Be aware that something like a change in the texture of the resident's food (for example a soft food diet) or a crush order for medication because of a dental issue also requires a doctor's order. Again, they don't make you aware of that before you go, so it's a hassle to get the order after you return and in the meantime, they refuse to provide soft food or crush medication. The poor processes and lack of accountability are horrendous. There were many instances when staff didn't answer call buttons in a timely manner. Once my mother missed a doctor's appointment even though she had done everything in advance to let them know about the appointment, but the driver didn't know she had signed up because he was out for several days when she signed up, and they had no backup process in place. Because the laundry equipment couldn't handle the laundry load, clothes were sometimes returned damp. On one occasion my mother was told to hang her clothes so they could dry. To address the equipment problem they chey changed laundry days but didn't let all the residents know. Someone was assigned the responsibility of informing residents, but passed that responsibility on to someone else, and then the second person didn't do it, and there was no process in place to check behind the staff. The dining room service is good most of the time, but there were occasions when my parents were taken to the dining room for a meal, then had to sit for more than an hour because the cooking staff was behind. They charge a $2000 non-refundable payment per person. I'm sure other facilities do something similar, but if the service is terrible like we experienced, then you don't get it back even though you consistently reported issues. So, we paid $6300/month for both of my parents, but you can add to that another $1000/month because of the non-refundable charge. I was very involved in my parents' care, going by almost daily and on some occasions several times per day. Elmcroft is only 7 minutes from my home, but if we ever feel the need for assisted living again, this is NOT the place I would choose. I felt that I had done some serious research before we selected Elmcroft, I went prepared with a long set of questions, and I checked reviews and ratings. But still, it wasn't enough. I'm now adding questions to my question list for the future.

pros and cons, Sodalis Stone Oak

I have lived here since [date removed] months. I am very unhappy. I am disabled after a stroke. Good: caregivers are available 24/7 and help whenever they can. Bad: difficult to have clean (expensively paid for) laundry returned and put away. Nobody would say 'no', but they don't do the work for at least a few days. I have to spend 2 - 3 days asking for my bed to be made. There is no privacy. anybody can come in without even knocking, and if they do knock, they don't wait for my permission to enter, just burst into the room. Food: breakfast is decent; especially eggs. Lunch and dinner are boring and mostly taste bad. Vegetables are cooked until they almost disintegrate, and the whole building smells bad from the kitchen. i don't eat meat, but if I did, natural meat dishes are hard to handle - they are mostly tough and dry. Salads are finely chopped and not appetizing. gravy is usually too starchy and h salty. There is too much mayo in salad meals. Grease is abundant in cakes and pies too. Pasta dishes re overcooked and sticky. There have been multiple changes in administration. I believe that, since I am a paying customer, I shoul not be dependent on the Director's moods and wishes. Aapparently, he thinks differently. he lectures me every time he sees me, not being fair and having an arrogant attitude. Yesterday, he heard a lie about my cat and, without checking with me, decided it was true. My cat ;lives with me at the previous Director's permission, and I paid $500 deposit. The current director started ordering me around and threatening. When I tried to talk to him, he just turned his back to me and left. I consider such behavior extremely rude and inappropriate. Among residents, there is a lot of hate flying around, often without reason. They scrutinize everybody, complain if they just don't like how the person looks. Most of them don't have adequate education or upbringing. they push the food on their plates with tteir fingers, pick their teeth or feet publickly, scream and yell as if in the woods. It's hard to understand some critics who engage in this kind of behavior.

Leave snacks, food with your loved one!

Nice place, nice staff. Food not so much. Your parent will get 1 chicken tender and 1 small scoop of watery macaroni and cheese for Sunday dinner. And for dinner on CHRISTMAS DAY, a turkey sandwich in a sandwich bag brought to their room, nothing else. For $5,000/month, I thought my parent would be fed better than this. If you send anyone here, make sure you leave them with plenty of snacks.

Elmcroft of Austin Review

Elmcroft was a nice communitie. There was an issue with the cleanliness, with the Alzheimer's unit having a distinct urine smell. The staff was very friendly, and happy to accomidate us. It's price was competative with other communities in the area. The care services were adaquate for our needs. They had a huge calendar of activities for the residents. All in all, it is a nice community.

My mom didn't deserve this

The office staff were very nice. I did advise them mom has Sjogren's syndrome. Which required soft foods. Mom was evaluated and was put in the assisted living area. She was there couple of weeks when I went to visit her and found her on the toilet. Mom said she was waiting for the caregiver to come back. I got her off. After looking at the camera in her room, I found she had been on the toilet for four hours. I contacted the office, and had a meeting and then moved her to memory care. She was sent to the hospital shortly afterwards, they found nothing and sent her home. I visited her and they were still trying to feed her pizza.. which she cannot eat. Within an hour of me leaving, the same caregiver sent her to the hospital again. This time all her electrolytes were way off. Due to lack of eating and fluids. She had to stay several days. I felt that was the beginning of then end for my mom. I called the office and told them she would not be returning to Sodalis. I just could not trust them anymore.

Where is the Health department- have they ever inspected this place?

I give it a 2 because it has had a roach infestation for as long as my loved one has been there. They will not call a professional exterminator and keep having a maintenance guy spray something that doesn't work.

Notice was given on [date removed] of his intent to vacate on [date removed], meeting his notice requirement. Unfortunately he was not able to move out by [date removed] and agreed to pay a per diem for each day he occupied his room. He moved out on [date removed]. My Dad’s bank account was debited for the full month of February and there was no offer to reimburse him for the [dates removed]. Further, after he was gone, Sodalis charged his bank account for rent in March. And April. And May. When he saw that his bank account had much less than he had calculated, he contacted me in May of this year. Upon reviewing the bank statements, I quickly saw that Sodalis had taken in excess of $[removed]in rent AFTER he had moved out. Hoping this was a clerical error, I contacted the company. Since May, I’ve been told they would look into it.

Residents Deserve Better: A Call for Compassion and Quality Care

My mother has been a resident at Sodalis Stone Oak going on a year. While I appreciate the need for such facilities, I feel compelled to share honest feedback. A major concern is the attitude of many staff—often unkind, impatient, and at times, rude. I understand the job is demanding, but families trust these places with their loved ones and expect compassion and professionalism. The food is also disappointing, lacking in quality, variety, and nutritional value. More thoughtful meal planning would greatly benefit residents' health. Most importantly, there needs to be more focus on quality of life—not just basic care. Respectful staff, a stimulating environment, and better nutrition are essential. Given the high costs families pay, higher standards of care, empathy, and dignity should be expected. I hope this review encourages real improvements in staff training, resident care, and overall management. The residents deserve better.

Only about the money

More like a psych and memory care than as Assisted living. Staff is overworked but try their best. Definitely about the bottom line than care. Very sad. Executive director is always out smoking. No activities are ever being done.

Review for Sodalis College Station

The quality of care is the biggest problem. The staff does not respond to the call buttons in a timely manner and they don't follow through all the items in the care plan

Sodalis Deer Park review

What we like the most about Sodalis Deer Park is that it is close to where I live. What they can improve on is: Food, constant turnover of all positions, not having enough staff per resident

Very disappointed

The reason that I have scored most things so low is because we pay $[removed] extra per month for extra help. My friend only gets 1 shower per week and if he's not there and ready at his time, he doesn't get one until the next week. One week they were late and came in at 8:30pm to give him a shower and he was already asleep. His meds have been missed and given wrong several times and once ran out without refilling. This last week they gave him his as needed only meds for several days when they weren't needed resulting in him having a terrible bout of diarrhea which he was left one night overnight without cleaning him up and the next day he was left for hours. There are many cockroaches in his room. I asked and was told an exterminator would be called, but he still has roaches, so I don't think anyone ever came. The food is made from very low quality foods like canned soups, the cheapest white bread for sandwiches, processed meats and cheeses. There are no snacks available very often. I saw a snack cart one day and the workers were grabbing all of the good snacks and eating them right there. They run out of things often like tea, lemonade, toilet paper. There was no hot water for the first month he was there and he went the first whole month without a shower!! He wouldn't take a cold one. Someone came inside his room and went through his wallet and took pictures of his credit and debit cards and then started buying all kinds of stuff using his cards. The barber charges $25 for a haircut. I could go on and on. I think I was generous in my scores actually. It is really a shame that these elderly people are not taken better care of. Most are afraid to speak up about anything because they are afraid they will get treated badly if they say anything. It is really sad.

Do not recommend

Sodalis was a gem compared to [facility name removed]. I have no idea how you gave them an award. It must have been rigged! The management at Sodalis accused me of falling on purpose and of recording everything. Both of them were not true, that's why I left.

Memory care unit at Sodalis

My loved one was in the memory care unit. I don't know if Sodalis still does that. After the fact, it seems to me like their heart wasn't really in the memory care business. My opinion of the assisted living portion of sodalis would have been dramatically different. If they had the same effort on memory care as they did for the ALF, I think I would have been happy. I did not know how badly my loved one needed to be somewhere else, until after we had to move her out. Nothing further seems appropriate.

Generally, the staff is kind. They failed to send a DNR on my hospice mother. She endured 45 minutes of CPR until the hospital was able to verify of her DNR status. They need to follow the protocol on DNR.

A very forgettable experience - do not recommend.

The intake paperwork went smoothly. The staff are friendly when available. Approximately 2 weeks after my mothers arrival, I visited my mother and found her unable to speak. She was still in bed at 2:00pm and had an untouched breakfast and lunch plate sitting by her bed. No one had checked on my mother, dressed or attended to her needs. She was taken to the hospital and didn't recover from her stroke. Another day I found a resident lying in the floor calling for help for over 20 minutes. I helped her into her chair and finally found assistance. Very affordable if you want to expedite your loved ones passing.

Disappointed

(staff and management were incredibly difficult to work with. They did change out the women in charge which needed to happen, but the replacement was totally disengaged. Entire staff struggled with minimal communication). Additionally the doctors that they brought in to care for the patients were atrocious (rude & uncommunicative). Hospice was our saving grace. Until they change their management there (in my opinion) it is not a good place. When you are leaving a loved one in their care, especially if you cannot do daily visits, communication is critical, and they don't have a structure in place. [name removed] at Sodalis, the person a potential client would meet with, is outstanding. I don't think if you met with her, that, in its current state, anyone would realize the struggles ahead.
