Serene Gardens

The staff is friendly. Communication with the family is good. The director is pretty busy, but does a good job. The food seems to be good. The facility is clean. Housekeeping is done, but I don't think it's as often as it should be. When they do clean, they do a great job. They just don't seem to clean as often as promised., but I understand that could also be due to short staffing. They do offer transportation, but we use the in house Dr. They also have a pretty good variety of activities and exercise for the residents, we're happy with that. I have recommended them to friends and family and will continue to do so. Overall, we're happy with the facility.

My person has settled in and is happy there. Be sure to work with the staff, especially the front office staff, to get them to commit to things and keep them accountable for what they're doing. They're slow in returning phone calls and setting up routine meetings. I know that they've had a change in staff, and they have a nurse on maternity leave, but ultimately they should still be responsible. The service and care that the patient actually receives though is very good.

From a facility standpoint we do think it is very nice, relatively new, clean and modern. The size of the rooms are probably amongst the best we had seen. You could pick between a one bedroom or a two bedroom that had a separate living area. The staff are certainly friendly and try very hard which is a big positive - we do think when it comes to memory care they could use a little more training. The meal arrangement's are nice, the dining area is nice and they all eat together. It is a single price, nothing that is nickel and dime it is all inclusive. We would recommend them to other families

It has not been that long since Serene Gardens has taken over. It's been about 2 months, but I'm not sure of the exact timeframe. They do take real good care of my husband and the meals look good when I've come to visit. Although they could give them a bit more food, if they're serving something that a resident doesn't like or can't eat, they make sure to get them something else. I would recommend it, but the problem I've come across with Serene Gardens is a lack of communication. It's more so with the night staff that I find this problem. My husband is approaching end of life and today in his rom they had oxygen tanks and all of this equipment all over the place, but no one could tell anyone why or who put in there. They also couldn't tell us who administered the oxygen and why. Because it happened at night, they did not have the hospice nurse's okay on that. So sometimes I've come across things like that where everyone is running around trying to figure out what happened. But, honestly, that would be the only thing that they could improve on. There's a new manager there, and we really like him. If we bring something to his attention, it's taken care of. I told my kids that if something happens and I'm no longer able to take care of myself, I wouldn't mind being placed here. And if I'm putting myself here, I'd say that's a pretty good recommendation. The new staff and workers in the memory care unit have been really sweet, kind, and caring. I really like them and I will miss them when my husband passes, because we've spent a lot of time together.

I had parents who lived at Grandhaven for a couple of months, then another after about 2 years. Overall the place was great. The staff worked very hard and truly cared about my parents. It was a loving atmosphere. Business staff was tough to contact at times.

Everybody we have met so far is super friendly and we really like the rooms. They are large and have a lot of space. The community is extremely clean, that was one thing we noticed right away. The activities are coming back and we do think they are doing well in that area as of right now. The meals sometimes are a hit or miss, its like occasionally they forget they are serving elderly folks.

The day to day staff working and the nurses there are just terrific and so good to our loved one. However the management is just okay, they seem to be disorganized at times and we have had issues with them loosing checks of ours even when it was handed to them. The activities person is nice, but other than having jigsaw puzzles out there really aren't many activities. We aren't sure if it just our loved one but they are not that happy with the meals. The value for the money right now is just not worth it.

Good tour, only reason we didn't pick this location is because of the location of it.

I would recommend Angela's House to others for their loved ones. This appears to be a newer community. The food is really good here. The community is accommodating to the residents and family's requests. The staff were okay to work with if the family had questions or concerns about our loved one. The activities were basic and performed within the community. There is no transportation to take residents shopping or to doctor appointments.

[Name removed] the Director has been very helpful and has been great to work with. We have been happy with our experience here. My loved one is happy with the meals. The room is good for my loved one, and we were able to pick it out for them.

The Brookdale Saginaw facility itself is very clean and very welcoming. We were very impressed with all the staff we met on our initial tour and just how long they have been working there

They have a very good chef there that makes wonderful food. We do wish they had a transport bus that would take the residents out every now and again, and also we know staffing is a struggle but communication could be improved.

Good community, not the right fit for my loved one.

We have always thought highly of Grandhaven. Some of the activities available are daily activities such as bingo, group exercises, and singalongs to name a few. The food seems to have a rotation with good variety and alternatives available for the residents.

Modest, clean facility. Good options for room sizes and care assistance. Even have 2 bedroom options.

The community is good at answering your questions and the communication is good between the staff and our family. They keep us well informed and up to date. I would recommend this community to others based on my experience.

IT's been great, except for staff coming and going. A nurse quit, several of the aides quit, the one who does the intake quit. It's been frustrating not having continuity of care. The other day one of the aides yelled at me, and that's happened a couple of times. The managers and receptionists are really, really nice though. The aides are good sometimes, other times they are not. Overall, the people have been very, very friendly, they've been good to me and my loved one. The food's not the best in the world, but my loved one likes it well enough. There's only one activity right now - bingo. And sometimes they do crafts, but not very often because you can't gather together right now.

Lovely, intimate cozy place! They had a great option of two rooms that made a suite. Liked the friendly staff and many inviting areas for activities.
