What Brookdale Bay could improve on would be definitely the medical assistants/aides...very helpful and friendly! Also (I called them chef) the cooks...always different foods/desserts and cheerful

Serene Gardens was the ONLY care facility in Lansing/Brighton/Ann Arbor/Detroit area that was willing to accept our father with an LVAD as a resident. The LVAD group from UoM hospital helped to arrange for them to be trained. The aides were very nervous with the LVAD batteries initially. The center would have been much better if there had been some onsite support for LVAD care for a couple weeks. The staff were all very kind and considerate. The food was mediocre. There was a lot of unidentifiable fried patties of meat/fish. Food served in the residents room instead of dining room was often cold. The facility and the resident rooms are really nice and clean. It smells clean and not like dirty bodies which is a big plus. I would not hesitate to put another loved one there who needs care. I just hope they improve their food options and continue training and supporting their staff in care giving skills.

We wish we would have used your service when we were looking for independent living for our mom. It would have saved a lot of heartache and anxiety if we understood independent living, assisted living, and memory care. We would have gone with a facility that incorporated all 3 versus having to move our mom. 1. 4 - Some of the staff deserve 5, but others shouldn't have been there. My mom had dementia, so I was there a lot and saw the inconsistencies in staff. Again, MANY of the staff were wonderful, but they weren't there 24/7. 2. 5. Very clean! 3. 3 with the same response as question 1. 3. 5 4. 4. She also had hospice care, which helped a lot. [facility removed] and [facility removed] worked well together. On a side note, I strongly encourage families to use an outside hospice versus the one recommended by the facility. 5. 5 if you're referring to the in-house administrative staff. They always responded and helped. 6. 1. The food was bad! For what we paid, the food should have been better. 7. 5+5+5!!! Their new activities director, [name removed], was excellent!! She made every resident feel loved and did so much for them and families. 8. 3. I think those that own the facility make those that run it do more with less while they pocket the money. Again, I am happy to answer questions.

Very clean facility. Staff overall is very caring. Had a few issues with nurse Aids. I feel they could use more training when it comes to patient safety and care. Most Nurses Aids very pleasant and really cared for the residents. However, they pass meds and I do not feel that some have enough knowledge to do so. Some med errors/misinformation were made on behalf of my mother. There are no RN's/LPN's on staff after hours and on weekends. The administration/ director addressed issues as I brought to their attention. Food was good and plentiful. Because I am an an RN, I was there every day and my mom had a nurse from hospice, it worked for us. I would not recommend for patients that need advanced medical needs.

Nice, small apartments available with warm, kind and attentive staff. Only wish there were more offsite activities available for residents. Movies, bingo, church, local farmers markets and visits to local businesses would be nice outings.

We moved our parents to Serene Gardens of Hartland about 3 months ago. They were living in an Independent Living facility before this. The administration at SG has been very accommodating to meeting our parents’ needs. They strive to listen and have addressed any concerns we’ve had. The meals are very tasty and nutritious. The faculty is clean and well taken care of. There does seem to be a lot of turn over of staff but I imagen this is normal in these facilities. The staff do call our parents by name and quickly learn their needs. Although they sometimes seem short-staffed, I’ve never felt it was unsafe. Our parents are well fed, clean and content. Overall, SG feels like home to our them and we especially like the small size of the facility.

They are short staffed and there have been some highs and lows. My mom has several issues they are learning. There are days I wish we could afford better care, but I know nobody can take care of her like I can so I have to learn to trust them. I have high standards. She likes her space. They don't clean to my standards but I'm ocd. The outside grounds need a little tlc. There are some staff that go above and beyond, they are amazing! Some that do what they have to. Right now with the staff shortage they are busy, I wish they could spend more one on one time. Some meals have been less desirable. It's not home cooking but she has options. The activity staff are so nice. I wish they had activities on the weekends or some evenings. It's a lot of money but I know for everything we get it's not in the world of assisted living.

Memory care is secure. Staffing numbers could be better but all of healthcare is suffering from shortages. Staff is caring and professional. Administrative staff works well with agencies to ensure affordable options for those in need. Facility is modern and nice.

It's not a perfect community, but yes I would recommend it.

Overall, we are very happy with placing my loved one at Serene Gardens. For the most part, the staff are attentive and caring. I think on occasion they may be understaffed, but we understand that is a nationwide issue. I scored the activities at three, as my loved one really does not participate in them. I would like to see my loved one be more involved, but part of that is on our loved one . I feel if they were to encourage to our loved one a little more, they might participate. A Place for mom were very helpful! I really appreciated your input when looking for a memory care center!!

My loved one was briefly a resident at Serene Gardens of Clarkston for a respite stay and overall it was a good experience for her. This facility is very nice, clean and bright. We would consider using them again in the future. My loved one also said that the food was good.

Brookdale is better than most other facilities in our area but as in all facilities there is room for improvements

We had a loved one living @GHLC for 1 1/2yrs In that time we became "family" with the staff & residents. We visit weekly, volunteering and Chapel.

WE HAVE ENJOYED GETTING TO KNOW BOTH STAFF AND RESIDENTS OVER THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS. WE ENJOY ACTIVITIES WITH THE RESIDENTS INCLUDING DOME CHAPEL SERVICES,

It seems the kitchen can not handle special dietary requirements. The doctor put my mom on a lactose free diet. The kitchen doesn't have any lactose free ingredients or even lactose free milk. Instead they just don't give her anything with lactose. So she ends up with very little at meals. I was there for lunch one day and all she got was a fish patty. And water. The doctor wants her to have a nutrition drink every day, like boost or ensure. Grand Haven has just stopped the nutrition drink all together because of the lactose free. But ensure makes one that is lactose free! It's extremely frustrating because we pay so much but they can't seem to handle a common dietary need.

The compassion of the staff and how they help residents and family is comforting. Follow through on certain issues has not been stellar.

My loved one is a resident at Brookdale Battle Creek. The staff has been super friendly. They take good care of my loved one. Her room is clean and her laundry is always done.

Mom does not have guided activities outdoors (such as encouraged to be outdoors, supervised walk in the garden/area between building). She is nutritionally well cared for and socially engaged with staff but she lacks outdoors and fresh air.
