I would consider other places besides this one

We came to Garden Estates to visit several times with my mom. Her health was declining and unable to stay alone. Based on our several visits my family and I agreed this would be a perfect match for my mom. When they did the assessment they way this certain person was introduced she was a nurse. Later I found out she is not a nurse but med tech who is the Director of the Med Room. My mom had multiple problems with her heart and lungs and had to be on oxygen full time. She had many medications which she knew exactly what she should be taking and what they look like. She was the type you just don't hand her a pile of pills and she takes them. She caught several times they weren't giving her the right medications consistently. With heart problems you are on a restricted diet of low sodium. Mom loved the food in the dinning room. I had dinner with her several times and after eating my mouth would be dried out like I had been sucking on sunflower seeds. In one month my mom gained 40 pounds which was fluid. Here we go to the hospital to have fluid removed. Mom was in the hospital almost two weeks. When I brought her back her caregiver made her feel good about getting back to her apartment. But the Director of the med room was no where to be found. Mom's medication had been changed and I needed to speak to the Director of the Med Room and the Director of the Center I also wanted to speak to the Chef in the dinning room to discuss low sodium options for my mom. Eventually we all sat down for a meeting but nothing changed after that meeting. My mom's health continued to decline but the caregivers never told me how much she had declined. She was having a lot of trouble breathing at night. They would also have to have her stand up to take her medication. BUT not one time did anyone let me know what was going on. So here we go back to the hospital this time she was in the hospital for 3 weeks. When my mom was discharged from the hospital she went on hospice. Which was hard decision to make for your loved one, especially your mom. I notified the Director of the Med Room that mom was on hospice. She tried to talk me into going with another hospice company and even brought me a written name and number to my mom's room. Which I thought was unprofessional and inappropriate considering we are distraught over my mom's health and welfare. Eventually I was spending nights with mom and I really got to see what was going on behind the scenes. One night the med tech brought mom her meds and she asked to see them like she did every time and her lasix were not the right dosage. We asked to see the MARS and it was written wrong! Mom had gained 10 pounds of fluid within a few days. So you understand how important a resident medications is dispersed correctly. Here we go back to the hospital to have fluids removed. At this point I was so upset with the Director of the Center and Director of the Med room my family decided to move my mom back home. She was requiring more and more care and I honestly didn't have trust in these people to care for my mom. I was told they had a nurse on staff which I found out they did NOT. I gave our 30 day notice to vacate. My mom passed 2 weeks after coming home. We still had a few things we needed to take out of my mom's apartment. I came to pick up a few things and walked up to an unlocked door and when I walked in a painter was in there painting. There was a trash bag with a few of my mom's things. I was overwhelmed with emotions I don't really know what I said or did but I know it wasn't pretty. We are still missing the monitor she used to report her pacemaker. So was our experience good.. NO Do they provide good care... if your self sufficient and care for yourself. Looking back we had red flags and we should have ran from the very beginning.

You should know this detail

My mother was in independent living and fell one day. She crawled to the bedroom to pull the cord and, when no one came to get her, she called 911 to get her up. The only thing the facility staff did was chastise her for calling 911 instead of calling the administrative office -- no visit from the nurse, no apology for the malfunctioning pull cord. No evaluation of the events that led her to fall, which turned out to be a likely TIA. Also, the pipes freeze in the winter due to poor construction so she had to carry water to the commode to flush the toilet for days at a time.

Terrible food & dining service

The food is inedible. Literally not fit to eat. It is not just tasteless or bad tasting. The weekly menu doesn't match the daily offering. The printed daily offering doesn't match what they bring out. The portions are ridiculously small. And it tastes like slop. My mother has made good friends there but the number 1 complaint is that they cut corners on food and don't care to improve or respond to resident or family concerns. These fine seniors pay WAAAAAY too much not to get good food and good service! Shame on you, Garden Estates of Temple!

Too Many Lies Are Being Told

The director came to my house to complete an assessment. During the time she was there we asked a lot of questions. They said the food was great and they eat there daily, which they don't eat because the food looks like pigslop. I made it clear that fresh fruit was very important, I was told only at breakfast time. No fresh fruit was ever served. A caregiver that they highly recommend was not professional and caused a lot of anxiety and apprehension. The caregiver had every staff believe she was the only caregiver and the staff became resentful. They were comfortable lying to me about what I wanted for the care.

Low marks

Not assisted living, more like independent living . If you like peanut butter sandwiches for dinner, crabby cooks, smelly hallways,, bad management who manage by fear of throwing your loved one out, and limited activities-check them out. Pretty place, not good resident care. Spoke to people in and out of the senior living business and this place gets low marks. Do your homework, don't believe the hype and flowery, sales pitches.

Grade F

I have been reading the reviews below and it shouldn't matter if the location is good or the staff is friendly or the food is fresh or the activities are swell. What matters is the care and the swiftness of the response to the residents and in that area, Antebellum and the management fail. Residents are kept waiting too long and they are not attended to quickly. I see residents wet for hours before someone comes to care for them. Bottom line is they don't have enough people working, day or night and until this changes, this community gets an F. Grossly understaffed. We have been here from the beginning. They opened to early.

.No clue how to take care of Alzheimer's patients

This place was recommended for my mom when she needed care due to her Alzheimer's. At first, they seemed to do a good job, but after a couple of weeks, I noticed a change in her. She was not acting like she felt well and her demeanor was changing. I told the nursing staff that a physician needed to check her that she wasn't acting like she felt good. Unfortunately, it fell on deaf ears. I ended up getting a call at 4:00 a.m. and they told me she was acting out and they had to call they had to call the police. When I got there, the ambulance and the police were there. She was terrified. I got her to get in the ambulance and had them take her to a hospital. When they checked her, she was so dehydrated they could not get any blood from her and she was diagnosed with a UTI, a common and painful condition Alzheimer's patients tend to get. She ended up in ICU for 2 weeks. They informed me she had to have a mental evaluation before she could return. Even the physician at the hospital was angry at the condition she was in. I never sent her back. I found a wonderful place that she is at now. I would not trust them to take care of anyone with Alzheimer's. They do not train their staff on what warning signs to look for if they are getting sick or having problems or even how to properly treat them. Its hard enough to make the decision to put your loved one in a home, They talk a good talk, but when it comes down to really understanding this disease, they do not have a clue.

Tragic

My mother lived here for two of the worst months of her life. She was ambulent and pretty self sufficient when she moved in in [date removed]. She had 1 fall in 5 years at her previous facility and here she had 4 falls in less than 3 weeks. The last one split her head and fractured her foot which left her bed bound. In a short 2 weeks she developed a level 2 bedsore and a gangrenous wound on her foot that was neglected. They didn't change her regularly or position her properly. She couldn't feed herself and they would drop off containers with food on her lap and leave. Her room smelled like urine and her trash was always full. Her TV cable was installed running loose across her closet door and there was no accessible switch to turn the lights on or off on her fan. These caused 2 of her falls. The facility was always short staffed and 2 caretakers that we know of were fired in the time she was there. There was never anyone around and when we visited, we had to go try to find them and there was often no more than 2 people on staff. One of the caretakers that we went to get to change her one time pulled her shirt over her nose and mouth when she was changing her and had to stop because she was heaving and going to vomit. The were residents yelling for help incessantly and the hallways stank of urine and trash. There were full trash bags in the hall all the time. I had to borrow their vacuum and cleaning supplies to clean her room because it was so filthy and disgusting. When I tried to return it there was no of there so I left it in the hall and it was still there the next day. One night I took mother out for dinner. When I brought her back, I put her purse on her desk and the next morning it was gone! The staff stole her Coach purse and wallet. We filed a police report. When we moved her out they tried to charge us for the remaining two weeks of the month even though they admitted they could no longer care for her properly. When I wrote to them detailing the above they quickly refunded the money. There is so much much more to tell, but my point is RUN away from The Pointe. Lots of promises of a small quaint community but it is the worst place to put your loved one. I couldn't live with myself if I didn't warn everyone about this place. My Mom passed away 2 weeks after we moved her out.

Fraud

We had to move my father back into our home. His back account was emptied constantly, due to staff taking cash for services that are supposed to be included, according to the lease agreement. When this was brought up to management they filed an unfounded adult protective services claim. APS recommended that we file a fraud complaint. They even provided us the contact info for the complaint. I wouldn't recommend ANYONE to this place, ever.

The tall guy in kitchen [name removed] is so gross, I heard him talking about taking pictures of girls at the gym, what if he's taking pictures of the girls that work in kitchen, or the ladies that live there or anyone that is visiting? Is he posting them online

I would not recommend Regal Estates - they assessed my Mother and claimed she was fit to live there. Two weeks later they insisted she move as she didn't fit their criteria.

Relationship with management

I live at Garden Estates and I can tell you first hand that if any problem arises at the facility that might effect the residence you can bet that the first thought is to favor the company and to [Removed] with the customers. The only plus for the facility is their rooms presently the food is of the poorest quality.

Worst Senior Residence Place Ever!!!

I moved my Dad out of here, because the standard of care is terrible. My Dad complained about the food being so bad, and they said they would work on fixing some things, and they never did, this went on for over a year. All they care about it money. Do yourself a favor and do not put your loved ones here!!!

Medication room doubles as a daycare for employees

The employees of the "medication room" bring their children to work and they hang out in the "medication room". This is a major distraction to the employees and puts the residents at high risk for obvious reasons. No children should be allowed where medication is kept and the "medication room" should not double as a daycare facility.
