I would not recommend this facility for people who are aging and need more care

The director and the staff members were absolutely wonderful at the Piedmont at Buckhead. The place was more of a glorified apartment, it wasn't about the care since it was independent living. They had a beautiful dining room but the food was not very good. It is too expensive for the services that they offer. I would not recommend this facility for people who are aging and need more care.

NOT the place for Assisted Living - Shop Around

My mother moved to a 2 bedroom independent living apartment in 2010. She adjusted to the downsizing from her house and yard and had a beautiful view of the pool and participated in several activities. The food is just OK - the biggest problem is they change chefs every 6 months or so. When La Siena was sold to a large national chain you could really note the difference - food quality, pricing, consistency of services, and management. They had a wonderful activities director for the first few years and after she left, they didn't make much effort to replace her and most activities stopped or were very limited. In early 2015, we needed to transfer her to one of the small # of assisted living units. After a 6 month wait we finally had a move in date. That's when the wheels fell off the bus. The entire transfer was chaotic and disorganized, and although she was notified 30 days prior to the move-in date by management, the staff acted as though they had just learned of her move and none of the paperwork for meds and care had been completed. After a few weeks in assisted living we knew it just wasn't going to work out. The staff and management were not trained to care for the demands of Alzheimer patients - they let her stay up well after midnight, insisted she wake up or 7am or tried to wake her up and never came back, she missed meals consistently, dirty clothes and depends piled up in closet, and her "medication Management" was neglected. We posted notes, checklists, and had numerous meetings with staff and management. They stated all of our claims were unfounded until we told them we had a "granny cam" in her apartment and were keeping logs regarding her scheduled care and routine and visited 2-3 times per week. One of the worst infractions was that we had instructed (in writing) dining staff not to serve her alcohol and had purchased non-alcoholic beverages to serve her at dinner. They ignored our instructions and Mom would go down in the afternoon and start drinking. One evening she got very drunk and her friends escorted her to her room and she fell and an ambulance was called. We moved her out after 30 days and we were sure they were happy to see "us" go. I'm giving the facility a "Fair" rating as things were good in independent living but terrible in assisted living. Shop around if you need qualified quality assisted living care for your family member or loved one.

This place has very nice facilities, but after that it starts to fade. Besides some of the other criticisms that have already been listed, such as lack of parking, I would like to add that the service time after pushing a call button for Level I Assisted Living can take up to a half an hour and sometimes the caretaker does not show up. We had to supplement Villa Hermosa's staff with our own caregivers at a significant cost. The costs listed in the side bar on this page are only for the average room. Level I Assisted Living adds on another $800, Level II $1200, I am still researching Level III. Their caregivers (registered and qualified) ratio to clients is lower than we have found at other places.

Beautiful But Not for the Disabled

If you’re looking for a cozy, beautifully-appointed residential facility that is home to friendly seniors who do not require a high level of assistance, this is it. IF, HOWEVER, YOUR SENIOR REQUIRES ACCOMMODATIONS FOR PHYSICAL DISABILITIES OR SKILLED CAREGIVERS IN WHOM YOU CAN BE CONFIDENT, THE VILLAGE AT OCOTILLO IS PROBABLY NOT FOR YOU. Apartments are spacious and inviting but NOT EQUIPPED FOR THE DISABLED. Installing more grab bars requires approval from management and residents pay equipment and labor. Showers do not have seats unless provided by the previous tenant. Sinks, faucets, microwave, laundry cannot be reached by the wheelchair-bound. Transportation is limited. Caregivers, who are NOT closely supervised, do not have medical training, and turnover of the small nursing staff is higher than the industry standard. Staff is poor at communicating medical issues or providing actionable assistance. Great for independents. Poor for those needing daily assistance.

Would not recommend for assisted living if care is needed

They are not good for assisted living. I had to hire someone to be with him because they were so understaffed. The doctor care is outsourced, and not responsive. He had an issue that I ended up taking him to the emergency room for because they would not come. He passed away 6 days after moving in.

The Piedmont at Buckhead review

Although with them being short staffed, and they had made it very clear they didn't have enough people they were still very friendly. When it comes to the care services, our loved one had been there and was not seen by a doctor even though requested. I got a call three weeks later asking if he was still having any issues. In my opinion, the doctor first visits should be lined up quickly for a new resident. Maybe I'm incorrect.

Would Not Recommend

It was a horrid experience. They don't have enough caregivers. They don't take care of the rooms. There were feces all over the carpet in front of the shared bathroom. A month later, it was still there. There were sticky surfaces in common areas all the time. My family member had incontinence and did not get changed often enough. They didn't help her cut up her food so she could eat it, and therefore she didn't eat. When we asked questions we didn't get answers. When we reported some of her personal items and laundry went missing, they never even responded. When we complained, shortly afterward they told us she had to leave. It was an awful place. The facility itself was nice and well set up, be they need to be providing better care to people with dementia.

Poor introduction for new resident.

Everything is great to get you into a unit and then you’re on your own. No map, directory of whom to call or tour of facilities. My friend just moved in and her front door lock fell apart. They can’t get another one for a week. She’s living there without a lock on her door. No security! Just excuses. Things go bad once she moved in & $. Only good thing is it’s a thirty day notice to move out. Poor choice for an old facility. They need a better maintenance program.

Not good for assisted living

Very niice facility if you just need a retirement home. My mother was there and eventually needed assisted living. I would NOT recommend it for assisted living. The apartments are not wheelchair/waller friendly, she could not easily navigate her walker through the bedroom and bathroom doors. There is one nurse over all the assisted living patients, she is very hard to communicate with if you can ever get a hold of her. They do not have a call button the patients can wear around their neck, my mother fell quite often and would lay on the floor until someone would find her as she didn't have the call box in her hand when she fell. By the time I moved her to a private assisted living facility she was covered in cuts and bruises from falling. If your loved one needs a high level of assisted living this is NOT your place. On e positive note, the aids were very nice and kind to my mother.

This is not the place for you if you have visitors that will need to park. The parking is highly limited with a 2 hour time limit during daytime hours for spaces in front regardless of whether you are a resident or family. There is no parking onsite for private caregivers. The adjacent businesses (shopping center across Wilmot, bank, physicians' offices) guard their parking becasue of so many people for Villa Hermosa parking there. There is frequent staff turnover which leads to inconsistency in care. If you are not very independent in your needs, don't have family support, and have friends family that wil want to to park at the facility this is not a great alternative.

A Pretty Place with No Heart

Just like all of the other reviews I have found that it is the most attractive community in Atlanta and you will be okay as long as you never have a problem or are mistreated. The executive director and some key staff tend to be defensive and will never offer what they can do better when they a mistake...some which are quite serious. I can't go into more detail because I fear retribution, which I have already seen there. If you lay low, do not complain when your loved one is treated poorly, and solve all of your own problems it will be okay. As one other reviewer mentioned, other than reserving the loading dock you are on your own to coordinate and oversee your move and connect your own dots as problems arise. On the plus side it is very attractive and new, the food is very good and there are many nice residents and activities. Just the ED and many of the staff need to go. If you talk to people there privately you will find these to be recurring themes.

It is a beautiful community - one of the most attractive senior living communities. The people who live there are wonderful and the location, food, and activities offer many options for residents. All of the window dressing is there but when you need help with the meaty [removed] coordinating a move or understanding why their (the facility's) response is not what it should be is when you see the problems. For coordinating a move they will reserve the loading dock but you are on your own to get everything else working - and it took weeks and many attempts with their staff. When other things go wrong the Executive Director tends to be defensive. There are others who have had the same experience. They never ask what they can do to make your assimilation experience better. If you can handle moving and coordinating everything on your own and have no problems with their service or reactions to issues - you will be okay. If you need them to help you beyond the minimum, you will be disappointed. They have process but not a lot of heart.

They lied to me!

The people at Silver Springs, they don't seem to tell you the truth. When I first went in, I told the guy that I met with that my loved one had enough money for a year and a half and after he would be on Medicaid. They told me that they took Medicaid, so I made a deposit and gave them a check for $7000, and it turns out they did not take Medicaid. I asked for a refund and they wanted to keep 2500 maintenance fee. I was not going to let that happen, I can't trust those people.

Keep looking for your new home

Think twice about a permanent move to Maravilla Scottsdale. They make it look too good to pass up, but the exorbitant buy-in with no re-sale value is very real at Maravilla. Plus, you will pay VERY high monthly dues on top of the buy-in fee. From day one, we were dissatisfied with Maravilla, from the dishonest salesperson misrepresenting the unit we were “sold”, to wringing every dollar they could out of us when we decided to leave for better accommodations. I can only assume the entire staff at Maravilla has no aging loved ones, because if they did, they would behave with more compassion and humanity than we ever saw from them. My advice…Keep shopping and you’ll find something better. It might not be as pretty as Maravilla, but the people will probably care about your loved ones a lot more.

Be Aware

They're neglectful and dishonest. They seemed very friendly, but they didn't do what they said they would do. They do not provide the care that they have a standard for, and it's dangerous. They didn't prompt my loved one to eat, so she didn't eat. They routinely didn't check on her for 11-12 hours at night. They stood there and laughed and said to her "Oh you're always on the floor in the morning." But they never told us that she fell. Eventually she ended up in the hospital with serious injuries.

Please do not take your loved one here

I will say to anyone who reads this, do not take a person that you love to this overpriced hell hole. The level of care is not what you will be sold at sales meeting with [name removed]. [name removed] was continually a wonderful easy ear but the most of the care staff was not worthy of my parents. [name removed] should be removed from her job as head nurse. Forget about wound care if needed and God forbid you are not mobile. Waiting time to be helped to bathroom or changed is inexcusable. They would send one person in room for a two person assist and tell my mom they could not help her until someone else came. My mother had severe bedsores and they suggested we get outside help while paying $8200 a month. [name removed] is the most wonderful person in building! [name removed] in the dining room was also a caring person. Once Covid hit this business starting serving sea rations, and the dining staff would not offer an entire menu prior to Covid. Food was awful!
