We ended up moving my loved one out of the community. There were times that we heard threats made to another residents. The activities coordinator was good. I would tell anyone not to go place your loved one here. There were only 2 staff that were good. The nurse manager and the administrator weren't good. Once you signed the people they wouldn't deal with you anymore. The nurse manager never came to speak to us when we moved my loved one out of the community. Anytime we had concerns the community would blame the family and told us what we did wrong.

It was a god awful experience, we could not get our loved one out of there quick enough. Our loved one is a very lively person and the weeks that they were there, our loved one pretty much slept all the time or was placed in front of a TV. The staff did not engaged our interact with our loved one, we were just unhappy. No loved one should be in that facility there was absolutely no leadership.

They don’t deserve a single star. A living hell. Bad food and unfriendly waiters. The nurses are rude and so incompetent that almost kill my husband by forgetting his medicines. The activities are pathetic. Maintenance is unixistent. And on top the price is higher than better places. We left as soon as we could.

They raise prices without telling you after one month. Rooms are not cleaned as promised. Paid for salon services, never received.(money not returned) charged for two weeks when room was not available. Lied to by three different directors, they can’t seem to employ anyone longer than a couple of weeks. Refuse to respond to letter addressing these problems.

Management is horrible and they treat their staff (who are the only good part of the company) horrible. Do NOT take your loved one here, they are only worried about money and not taking care of the residents!

Considered this facility for respite and short term in memory care before full-time placement. The tactics employed by the sales person [name removed] were disappointing along with her nurse intake. Be warned if you are jewish too and don't speak english but other language. They will try to get you into their costly full time placement, drag their feet, communicate via txt msg in the hopes you will change your mind and than conveniently will have "no more room for respite" or "the language barrier is an issue." Avoid at all cost the humiliation.

While my mother-in-law was at Grand Villa & had taken her quota of falls...we were advised to have Hospice & 24/7 care to protect them from any state agencies. Well I am proud to announce that after taking her off hospice & getting the medical care that she needed. Then referred to a rehab center in Boynton Beach, Fl she has not had one fall. She was even waitin for a bus in rehab. All she needed was the caring & know how of patients that are not bound to a wheelchair to help them in there daily activities rather than subject them to be confined and asking the private pay individuals to now pay for 24/7 care, plus there fees & not have the patient get better because their is not enough staff to take care of different individual needs. She has not fallen once at rehab which makes me wonder what occurences could of been avoided if they had the proper staffing for all the patients that are not wheelchaired bound. Plus she was only there for 4 months & we had to pay a $2000.00 community fee and so far the administrators have not looked into given us any rebate for such a short term.

Extremely dangerous place. They caused irreversible harm to my mother. We trusted them & they almost killed her. They also stole from her. Horrible experience. Do not send any one here.

Doesn't look like home nor feel like family, my grandmothers room is full of mold, we have since left this community but I had to share these to protect someone else from coming into this situation that we had, we are very disappointed in the way the whole situation was handled and the staff turn around makes me cringe, this is the 5th executive director at this location with in 2 YEARS, that shows a lot in itself, every time it Rains at this community the rooms flood, and they resort to extracting the water, obviously they don't do a good job because my grandmothers room along with others have a very musty odor, we are very disappointed in this whole situation.

Lack of compassion, my grandmothers room is full of mold, (pictures have since been taken and we have kept record) we have since left this disgraceful place they so call a "loving and caring community" Sure doesn't look like home and definitely doesn't feel like family, wasn't taken care of properly for what she was paying for, was supposed to be checked on every 2 hours, never happened, very disappointed.

Spoke with residents, just came in, no appt. They are dying to get out of there. Staff on cell phones. Not a happy place. Look elsewhere.

Used to be a warm and friendly community but the new leadership is terrible, unfriendly and cold to people.

A terrible place to live. No staff always short staff to take care of us. Poor food quality, unsanitary areas. Dishonesty and high turnover of staff.

I would never recommend this community to anybody. They almost killed our loved one. She was there for three weeks, and declined very much. She had many bed sores, and a very bad infection. When one of her friends with the visit her, she was just out of it. When her son asked what is wrong with my mother. The staff said it was her medication that made her act like that. He wasn't happy with that answer, so he took her to the hospital. The hospital had to stabilize, because she was in since bad condition. It was a nightmare experience for us in this community.

I just returned from visiting this place. All they talked about was how they were renovating it. All the renovations in the world cannot take away from the smell (masked by plug-in deoderizers) and the overall shabbiness of the place. Even though I had thoroughly and honestly explained my mother's condition to them over the phone, they agreed to an appointment. I took my mother there, who is wheelchair bound because of a broken hip but in full possession of her faculties. We took the tour, even though they refused to discuss pricing with us.. After the tour, my mother was evaluated by a nurse. Then the "tour guide" and the nurse conferred and we were given the "bad news." My mother could not move in because there was no room in the facility for her level of care (which was not all that excessive...bathing, helping with dressing, assistance to the bathroom and lunch room, etc, standard assistance living care). I can't help but feel that my mother did not meet their standards of "renovation" that they so emphasized during the tour. Perhaps they are looking for a more upscale clientele. In that case, this place needs a lot more renovating than painting and creating new rooms, like a serious examination of the air quality, carpets, elevators, and overall shabbiness of both the place and the residents.

Memory care unit here is horrible! Please do not put your loved one here! Director of memory care unit does not seem qualified to be the director and does NOT address or handle any of the families concerns or complaints. Promises are made to improve yet no improvements seen! When I mention to anyone that my loved one was here everyone had the same response around town and has heard how horrible the care is here and how under staffed they are. Staff that is there I have witnessed being on their phones instead of paying attention to the residents. Rumor also is there is no over night staff. If this is true the residents are on the 2nd floor over night and could get locked out of their rooms. Key entry elevator from 1st to 2nd floor could be a Hazzard I have been on the 2nd floor with my loved one and waited a long time for someone to come let us down. No one was on the 2nd floor with the residents there if something happened. My loved one got very ill and lost alot of weight over a few short months. Family had to tell staff to call for help when medical attention was needed and only then were the paramedics called. All staff seems under trained!!! No interaction with residents or attempts made to try to accommodate their familiar routines or to try to stimulate their minds. Basically sit them in rooms to stare at the walls or tvs!!!

I could write a novel about our experience with Grand Villa Deland Memory Care, but I’ll try to be short and to the point. My advice is DO NOT PLACE YOUR LOVED ONE IN THE GRAND VILLA MEMORY CARE FACILITY. The employees who care for the patients are, for the most part, sincere, kind, and caring. However, the facility is extremely under staffed for even mediocre care. Our mother had fallen several times and was sent to the local ER with no reported reason. She acquired many cuts and skin tears that each required several weeks of home healthcare assistance (as well as several contusions). My mother received no assistance with eating meals. There is an extreme lack of communication between staff members, as well as, staff and family. Several times we would visit and could not find one staff member on the floor… and counted more than twenty patients without supervision – scary! The list could go on and on. To move mom would be traumatic and exhausting for her, but after meeting with three different Executive Directors with no resolution, we decided to do so. Our mother is now cared for at a wonderful placed with plenty of care… she is now eating well, her wounds are healing, and everything is so much better! Here are some thoughts if Grand Villa Deland Memory Care is on your list as an option for your loved one: Anyone can visit at anytime… show up unexpectedly (early, late, meal times, etc.) and observe the ratio of caregivers to residents. Look for recent injuries that patients may have. Spend some time there and see if patients are sitting alone for long periods of time with no interaction. Elevators are locked, so ask staff to allow you to go upstairs then see how many patients are wandering the halls with absolutely no supervision. Ask about the qualification of the caregivers and the turn-over rate. Inquire about the protocol for medical advice and emergencies… we understood there is an RN on staff; even with my mother’s injuries we never met the nurse. Unfortunately, we did not have an opportunity to evaluate the care prior to mom moving-in… the facility was brand new and the promises were many. We stayed for 3 months hoping for improvement, but it never happened. I cannot stress enough, my advice is DO NOT PLACE YOUR LOVED ONE IN THE GRAND VILLA MEMORY CARE FACILITY. I wish you the best with locating a good home for your loved one.

Brentwood need new management and im going to call the state as well

I would not suggest this ALF to anyone! The management team would rather argue with you then fix The problems. Get everything in writing even to the smallest detail. It may be a pretty ALF, but when you are paying that kind of money pretty doesn't count.

It's just been horrible. My father is in memory care and they let him walk away and get lost a couple of times. He keeps missing his doctors appointments also. Because he is in memory care they do not let him participate in some of the social events that the other residents partake it. Everything about Royal Palm Retirement Centre has been a very negative experience and we will be moving my father out of there very soon.
