Dont' place you parents here

For nearly ten years, we have been paying members of this community. I trusted this assisted living community to actually assist my mother and take care of her needs. As a result of her increasing dementia, she began exhibiting some negative behaviors. I was not called in for any consultation or discussion at all. On November 2, I received a brusque, formal, uncaring phone call that informed that I must move my mother to another facility. There were no attempts to have a meeting with me to discuss the stuation, to seek medical or social solutions, to call in medical professionals, to seek answers to her problems. All I received was just a dismissal notice to let me know I had to have her out of the facility by Christmas Day. Who evicts an old lady on Christmas? I have nothing but praise for the care staff who are patient, kind, understanding, overworked, and underpaid. The administration is severely lacking is care, consideration and civility. Sharon M. Currently horrible experience

I would not recommend them to anybody. They have a problem delivering medication in a timely manor. The meals are being delivered and are usually and hour or 2 later than they would be if they were in the dining room and it arrives cold. With covid and the many lock downs, it has not been a good experience.

Horrible environement

Recently we re-toured the community since becoming Grand Villa and have never experience a more rude and unwelcoming group of managers. We tried talking to a nurse name [name removed] about my family member and were so unprofessionally told that her policy was to physically assess: all we wanted was to ask her a question! What has happened? A year ago we had the most wonderful experience under Princeton Village but now?? Told that the management decided to leave? No heart and no empathy from this new group...

Be Aware

We chose Grand Villa in part because my dad would be able to have a large private room with a private bathroom. We had such high hopes. We were told such wonderful things about the staff and the activities that they do. Much of what we were told never came to fruition. While most of the staff treated him kindly no one truly developed a relationship with him. At first, my sister and I tried to develop a rapport with the staff. We made an effort to remember their names and we would bring them goodies to show our appreciation. Unfortunately, there was a constant turnover and it seemed that every time we visited (at least once a week) a new person answered the door. The turnover was not only with the care providers but there were three different directors in the year and a half my dad was there. The supervision was not adequate. There were many times when we could not find anyone to open a door to let us out. Many times we observed the care workers sitting near the nurse’s station(for lack of a better description) on their phones while the residents all sat in the main salon unsupervised. The residents were out and about and the care workers were nowhere to be found. My sister and I were unable to leave the floor for about half an hour as it is securely locked. I assume they were in a room helping but there was simply not enough staff. There were times when his room and bathroom were unkempt when his toilet did not flush (for days), when he did not have hot water, when there was no doorknob and people walked in and out of his room. Many things disappeared. We had to find a new placement for my dad because his behavior became unmanageable for them but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. When we went to clear out his room the care workers had no clue that he had been gone for days and when we informed the care worker that he needed to be moved she did not even acknowledge what we said. There was absolutely no concern for my dad at all. It was difficult to see my father, a once proud and independent man in the hands of care workers who did not see him as a person. With the exception of the recreational specialists (who are lovely) and a couple of caregivers, it just comes down to being a business. We entrusted them with our dad, who is so loved by us but it just turned out to be disastrous. For most care workers it was just a job and for the administration, it was just about the bottom line. There is no heart in Grand Villa.

Beware

My grandfather lived on the memory care floor for about 15 months, but passed away in August. My mom and I visited at least 6 times a week, stayed for hours at a time, and were involved in activities with the residents so we saw a lot of what went on. We found people and things we loved in this place and people and things we did not. However, at the end of my grandfather's life things took a turn at the facility and we had nothing but problems. We talked to many people there about our issues and things only got worse. After my grandfather passed, I wrote a google review and a facebook review on their page. We continued to visit the residents on the second floor because after 15 months, we had built a relationship with them. We would visit and bring them pretzels, muffins, etc. Today, my mom and I went to help the residents paint pumpkins but didn't make it to the second floor before the director of the facility told us we were no longer welcome there because of my negative review. I was told I should change my review and make it more positive but I refused. Kicking people out of the facility who actually care for the resident's well-being is a terrible reaction to an honest review. Take my review and make your facility better because of it, don't punish my family and your residents because you don't like hearing the truth. I'd be happy to change my review if I saw changes within the facility. But no, I won't change my review just to gain access to the building. People should read honest reviews, not just the ones the Grand Villa of NPR approves of and the ones their employees put on there. Constructive criticism can be a great tool to help make improvements, but this facility does not wish to do that.

DO NOT BELIEVE A WORD THEY SAY!

DO NOT BELIEVE A WORD THEY SAY! I am a disabled veteran and my wife is in the later stages of Alzheimers. I can't remember a time in all my 71 years on this earth when I have ever felt as deceived as I have by this facility. I will be submitting a more detailed review but for now I can only warn you NOT to be fooled by all the sweet talk and "you are family" baloney. Get EVERY WORD, EVERY PROMISE and EVERY OFFER in writing IMMEDIATELY, at the very moment it is being presented. In our experience, it all turned out to be nothing more than a systematic "deception" orchestrated to move you closer and closer to "the big bait and switch". Then they will try to make you believe that YOU misunderstood (why not, you’re old and have trouble remembering things). Don't even consider this place unless you have a team of lawyers with you every single second of the way. Be especially careful of the long list of EXTRA CHARGES, MONTHLY FEES, AMENITY CHARGES, SERVICE CHARGES, SUPPLY CHARGES and the MASSIVE UPFRONT NON-REFUNDABLE COMMUNITY FEE. In our opinion they have ZERO conscience, even less trustworthiness and driven by greed. Please be careful. My family is heartbroken.

No phone connection in the room

A close friend of the family was transferred to Brentwood two weeks ago from a local rehabilitation facility following a fractured hip. This friend has been at Brentwood for a full two week period without a landline connection in his room. I have brought this to the staff's attention on multiple occasions, including today. There is no phone jack outlet in this friend's room, as confirmed by their staff. A local cable company reportedly provides the phone service, and a recent response from Brentwood's management is that our friend has a "hardware" problem in his room that has led to the lack of telephone service. In the meantime, this 88-year-old gentleman does not have a working cell phone, and must wheel himself (via wheelchair) to a staffmember's office or to the receptionist's desk and ask to use their phone to place his calls. This is socially isolating for our friend. Brentwood advertises itself as a luxury facility, but serving macaroni and cheese as the main dish is a second indication that all is not well at this facility. Before moving your loved one to this location, take a thorough tour of the facility especially during meal time, and be sure to ask if a basic feature such as a landline connection is provided.

Absolute bedlam

Sure Grand Villa is nice and new and they sure can sell it, but having your loved one living in memory care is sickening. They have been open since February and the employee turnover rate is astounding. The saleswoman who promised us all sorts of great things has left. She really pretended to care, too. Let's get real here. There is no "state of the art" memory care. The computer offering brain fitness sits in a corner untouched. The 2nd floor activity is to sit in front of the TV. Life stations are a joke. They park the walkers in fron of one of them. The hard working aides are overworked and understaffed. The aides also do laundry and serve meals. Speaking of meals, our loved one lost over 25 lbs and we seemed to be the only ones concerned about it. Residents are checked off for attending meals but no one notes what they eat or has time to help them eat. The last time we visited there was an altercation in the TV room. N touched L's walker. L slammed the walker into N's shins. N picked up a chair to hit L. Meanwhile in the other room a new resident is yelling"Help me. Help me." constantly. It was like being stuck in an asylum. There are residents who are known hitters. There are others that pace constantly. It agitates the rest of the residents. Once we had to tell an aide it had started to rain and there was a resident asleep out on the patio. I have found residents stuck in the elevator at least 3 times. The elevator only works with a pass key that only staff have. If you have to place your loved one here be prepared to constantly watch over them and their care. Look for bruises , expect UTI's and weight loss. In spite of trying to work with management we only lasted a few months. We never got the care we were told we would get. I agree with the other 1 star reviews. DO NOT PLACE YOUR LOVED ONE IN GRAND VILLA MEMORY CARE.

I Walked Out

I made an appointment to take a tour. When I got there the receptionist seemed to not fit the part, she looked like a resident. After waiting some time, I asked the receptionist for the the tour and she told me the guide was off that day. I noticed the residents did not seem active and were gathered in a room, they looked as if they were staring at the ceiling. I was awful and a terrible experience. i looks nice from the outside but not attentive staff inside.

The Truth

Brentwood at Fore Ranch used to be a decent place to place your love ones. Unfortunately, it is no longer like that. They are always short staffed. The food that they serve to the resident's is deplorable, they often use the same food in the same week. I definitely would not recommend this place to anyone. Because of the shortage of staff the residents do not get the best care that they deserve. Too many times they wait 30 to 45 minutes for help to arrive in their room. They need new management desperately!

Stay Clear

In order to help others to not go through what we went through, do not place a relative or loved one in Grand Villas of Deland! We recently moved ours out of the memory care unit due to excessive injuries, lack of personal hygiene care (as was promised on the contract), lack of assisting with eating meals (as was promised in the contract), and lack of any personal attention to the resident. The sales team is really good at selling, but that is as far as any professionalism goes there. Although a good sales person wouldn't sell something they know is not healthy, but that is another story. Management is struggling with providing direction. The management team should not be allowed to even run a hotdog stand so not sure how they got into the positions they are in.

RUN DONT WALK

Run don't walk from Brentwood at Fore Ranch. This place is like polishing a turd. At the end of the day it's still a turd, a quite nice looking one from the outside. But don't let looks deceive you. The upper management doesn't care about the patients care. My father has Diabetes and was given fruit, cake, cookies, pizza anything you can think of and it caused complications. He feel a bunch of times and xrays didn't reveal a cracked rib which they should have caught and just general issues with medication. The pharmacy they have is horrible. The Exec Director is a smug jerk and basically rude to my wife when she called about some things. The Marketing Director makes this place out like it's the Senior Utopia of Wizard of Oz senior living. The Owner a diabetic himself says they take care of diabetics and they have diabetic menus. Nope they don't have that. It's basically a high priced facility that has caused way more harm to my father than good. Hence the reason I say Run don't walk from this facility. The lower level staff and CNA's really do a good job of working with what they have. But they can't help the upper management is just milking people for money while providing a in my opinion a sub par product. Dad has been out of the facility since March 4th and they haven't once called to ask how he's doing or checking on him. They don't do a lot of things that are just plain common sense. I highly regret ever putting my father here. Don't believe all the hype.

It was awful!

It smelled, and the residents were all lined up in the lobby in their chairs like it was the receptionist's job to watch them. I got in the car and drove away crying. It was awful!
