This is a business that has been renovated to lure more residents. The staff is poorly trained and communication is dismal. Residents and families are mislead and charged for services not needed or rendered. Residents seem miserable and most all of the Memory Care residents congregate at the main door trying to leave. Watching them bang on the window is heartbreaking to see. There are so many better choices for your loved ones, please keep looking!

My review is for Memory Care. Unfortunately I would not recommend placing a family member here. There are times when the unit is understaffed and they call in temp help who are not adequately trained. Currently they are trying to hire a director and have had no success in doing so. As for activities, residents are often taken to the activity room and placed in front of the TV. The current activity director needs to do a better job of planning actual activities. The management need to step up and make sure that our family members receive the care that they deserve!

If you're looking for an old building with a mediocre paint job, this is the place for you. If you're looking for a home with good care for your parent, go elsewhere. I've been here from old owners to new. They used to have an old building, but the best elderly care in town with managers that went the extra mile for every patient, stayed late or got extra care when needed. The new owners [Removed] are investors with no experience in health care. They've increased rents and reduced care, staff, activities, medical supplies, and service intentionally to increase the bottom line - their top priority. The new manager [Removed] seems to have no concern for patients, is deft at avoiding direct answers, and lies if necessary to families and state officials. There is no family liason and the few good staff left from the old ownership are ineffective with poor, negligent management. Our parent has become more isolated and withdrawn with the reduced care in just 6 months even though physical condition is the same or better. Strokes go unnoticed, patients are seen with bruises from falling due to wandering without supervision, wheel chair patients left alone in elevators, They make a good show with new paint & nice monthly schedules of activities and meals, but it's lipstick on a pig to cover up the limited care and reduced services. Let your nose guide you - they say. What used to be an old but clean building now smells of bodily fluids in most hallways due to neglect of patient care and accidents in hallway carpets, elevators, and dining room. There are good facilities out there with experience and good loving care, but not here...keep looking!

Had to give one star to post, but I'm here to tell you this place is full of adult children! Nobody knows what they are doing there. [removed] The residents get ignored all the time by the staff not to mention there are rooms that reek with the smell of urine. When you need a nurse if he doesn't like you or know you he just ignores you and then looks at you like he's confused as to why he's even there! Funny when pain meds come up missing and the nurse wont help to figure it because your not a favorite! I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND ANYONE HERE. I have witnessed this with my own eyes for about 3 years I've also seen State come and go more often then residents families and out of those three years they went through 3 Directors. Its a wonder why we are not there anymore and will never go back!

When we were here at first, it was good. Until the nurse left and they got a new one. Pam was out of this world, when she left and they replaced her, the new nurse was awful. When they had a meeting with the residents, the ombudsman was there, they threatened to raise the rates on the residents if they complained. It's been a little while so maybe things have gotten better. It really is the staff that makes or breaks a place.

Since the change in ownership this place has gone down hill. The Executive Director is not friendly at all. They are always short staffed, the only positive thing is the food. I am going to be giving 30 day notice and moving my mother somewhere else after the Holidays. I do not recommend this place.

My mother was dead four months after moving to Parkland directly due to staff not following appropriate safety procedures that they, themselves recommended. Despite earlier conversations with the executive director, nothing was done to educate or address gaps in care. After a fall, about which nobody could explain or provide any specifics, my mother was supposed to be in a wheelchair. An aide left her unattended in the bathroom where she fell and broke her hip. I made several requests to review documentation of the fall, but records were never provided. I was told they don't share that information, although when I contacted the State license agency, I was told they are required to share it. One example of the care provided occurred when I stopped by early one Sunday evening and found my mother dirty, discombobulated and with her room in disarray. Based on her usual demeanor, it was obvious that she was suffering from a delirium. (We later learned that she had a UTI, which does typically trigger a delerium for her. So much for having clinicians on staff.) Staff were sitting on the sofa watching television - without any of the residents. And this occurred while I was there, when they might have at least made an effort to appear to be caring for residents. I learned my mother had been like this before dinner - nearly 3 hours - and nobody took the initiative to clean my mother or the room. I cleaned my mother and helped her change clothes. I was told they were waiting for me to leave then they would clean the room. But I had to ask three times, then waited over an hour for someone, who then they said they couldn't find a vacuum. While disappointing, I thought the executive director would use this as a training opportunity. I was wrong. When I communicated all of this to the executive director, she attempted to make excuses, inadvertently contradicting herself in the process and certainly not expressing concern. To cap off the wretched experience, I was told that I didn't need to know about what happened there as they were "used to it." If my mother is exhibiting unusual behavior, I most certainly do need to know. We were so concerned that we were in the process of researching other places for my mother when she broke her hip. The facility is new and looks lovely. They are very good at keeping up appearances - in more ways than one. I don't want anyone to go through what we went through. If you are even considering Parkland, I would strongly encourage you to visit often, especially at unusual times on weekends and evenings.

Bus/van has broken down multiple times They used to provide day trips for the residents to go places besides the grocery store but that is no longer available They require the residents to call out their own bingo They took away the snacks they used to provide crackers, cookies, granola bars, breakfast bars, bananas, for example now they only offer the same red apples every single day They used to allow you to sit at the dining tables and have lunch and take your left overs to your room Many only eat part of their sandwich and want the rest later That is now no longer allowed now if you want to take food to your room you have to pay a tray fee of 7.00 If you have laundry service your lucky if you get your clothes back the same day The clothes are not folded properly more like wadded up The house cleaners sometimes clean and sometimes never show until you complain When they over water the yard mud will go across the sidewalk making a huge fall hazard For active adults they would provide keys to the side doors to get in and out They changed all the locks and now you have to wait outside after hours for at least half an hour to get in So with people with dogs this causes a huge hardship They increase the price yet take more away

The staff dose not car for your loved one. Lip service is what you will pay for. My father has moderate Alzhiemers. My father had fallen and cut his leg. I discovered his wound on one of my weekly visits, his leg had become infected and painful. I took him to Emergency. His wound was cleaned, bandaged and he was put on Oral Antibiotics. They are understaffed and cannot properly watch there patients or keep their rooms clean. My Father was attacked by another patient and I was not notified.

Very poor care in the memory care side. Residents aimlessly wander in and out of other peoples rooms. Residents are unsupervised. Their activities consist of putting the residents in the great room and turning on the TV. Poor quality food.

Where to start. When we first visited the facility and talked with the marketing rep, we were given to understand this was an assisted living facility. But after a few months we found that their idea of "assistance" was pretty minimal. When my mom needed help and pressed her button, sometimes it would take over 1/2 hour for someone to show up. Not acceptable. Medication dispensing was a nightmare. The process was overly cumbersome and it seemed as if they were more interested in covering their own liability than they were giving the medication to my mom when she needed it. The food was horrendous. I had numerous occasions to eat with them and every time I was appalled. The staff was pleasant enough, but many were clearly under trained and actually did more harm than good when helping my mom. The facility was obviously understaffed and seemed to have a pretty high turnover rate, even in the short time we were there. Unless your loved one is very independent, I would steer clear of this place. In fact, I would just steer clear... period.

Please take the time to visit 2-3 facilities so you have a better perspective . Spend time walking around observing beyond the very guided tour . Ask questions of the aids and staff . Pay attention to the condition and smells . Are the residents clean and tidy ? Someone gave me great advice .. look at their fingernail , teeth and glasses , if those things are clean and maintained .. you know they are well cared for. If you take the time to compare You will quickly see that Hillcrest may not be the best choice .

This place has got to be one of the worse staffed facilities I have ever seen. Only 2 nurses for 100 people? What a joke. Having an RN on staff to oversight is good for marketing, but where are they when the people need them? Spread too thin. The CNAs who pass the medications don't seem to understand what is going on most of the time as well as they should. The administrator has to ask the kids passing the medications about everyone, she doesn't even know her own residents!?! Mom loved this place 3 years ago. What happened? The staffing needs to be increased, or competent. I don't know how the nurses are able to keep up with what they do, but at least they seem to know what is going on.

They were so friendly on the tour and made lots of promises , then we moved mom in and it was a big mistake ! The place is dirty and gross ! carpet is horribly stained throughout the building , residents with stained dirty clothes and the rooms smell of urine . mom's call light goes unanswered . Her health has declined and she has lost weight . She feels put off by the administration . The food they feed them is horrible and unhealthy . The staff is always too busy sitting around talking to be of any help to mom and they miss her meds !! They don't know what they are doing , blank stares when you ask a direct question . Seem they are all friends who are there to just hang out become irritated is you press the issue . The administration is aloof never interacting with the residents unless your visiting . Apathy is the word that comes to mind. when i brought things up to the Administrator she was very defensive and rude . Refusing to even negotiate what we were asking for. an earlier comment about it being run by a bunch of high schoolers is dead on, right up to the administration . VERY unprofessional in the way they speak, act , dress and handle the issues . Her office looks like a teenagers room. Seems they will tell you just about anything to get you to sign a contract . Go somewhere anywhere else would be my advice !

Zero stars. But I had to give one star for this review to go through. Worst place ever. Sure ... They all look good on a tour and all the residents that you SEE look like they are enjoying themselves. But what goes on behind closed doors ... My mother was a resident for over 3 years until she passed away. Towards the end she was unable to walk. Hillcrest assured me they could take care of her. Her room smelled of urine constantly. After her death, the administrator was let go. This was about the fifth one in 3 years. I lost count, as well as so many nurses and turnover of caretakers. [removed The point is -- you really don't know until you get there and the level of care really needed.
