Terrible care, no accountability, nobody in charge

After Anthem Memory Care purchased them in February 2022, care and quality went down hill. Staff was turned over, with new staff with little experience. Under their ownership we experienced 3 major unexplained injuries within 6 months, 2 resulting in broken bones and hospitalization. They have refused to give investigation reports blaming their legal department. Staff avoided contact with us after the last incident. We have moved our mom out of this facility.

Worst experience thus far, not trustworthy.

Do not send your loved one a JEA facility! Care plans are not followed, management teams have NO integrity, and we have found them to be big BULLIES! We just got my dad home from a facility in Clinton, UT and it has been nothing short of a nightmare after having to shower him every time we went to see him, a trip to the ER and being advised by the ER to take him home for 4 days while starting the new lasix medication, and finally after a month of sores on his backside because they wouldn't take him to the bathroom or clean him properly after they made him mess himself, we've brought him home again to heal his behind. How dare, they or anyone else, think they can treat our elderly this way - taking advantage of the vulnerable situation caretakers find themselves in or a loved one. The sores will heal but the stress and exhaustion may never. We tried to follow their requests to email (week 1) them about concerns immediately and to give them 48 hours...however, nothing started to change until the start of week 5 - most things, sadly, did not. Good sales pitch but they didn't deliver! We were rushed from the minute we arrived to tour the joint, sign the paper work, give them the check, and kiss dad goodbye...less than 2 hours - such a scam!

Terrible Disease- made worse

Our past journey with Barrington Facilities and JEA has been so undesirable it is difficult to waste anymore of my time and thoughts towards their facility. However, I believe that I owe it to my loved one and others to share the depravity of Barrington’s Place services. Though their facility tours well, that is about the extent of the niceties. In an attempt not to attack, but to review the facilities, I used a typical star format; one star being the lowest possible rating five being the highest. **** Cleanliness * Courtesy of the staff - I found the administration to be combative and accusatory. * Food –When the residents can no longer eat solid food, instead of providing soft foods such as soups, Jello and mashed potatoes, they serve pureed Salmon. Could you imagine eating this even if you liked fish? Disgusting. * Communication – no follow up to repeated requests, very limited dialogue. * Medical support – there is none, they are not a nursing center. Very conflicting information in this area, they tell you about the support when you first are entering the facilities, then afterwards, they claim they are not required by law to provide certain services because they are not a medical provider. * Safety of residents, non-existent, our loved one had several unwitnessed physical events which led to medical treatment. Overall it seems that everything that is associated with this horrible disease, they feel is a problem with the resident and have no support measure other than to medicate your loved one. We finally received dignified professional care when hospice step in; thank you to the Hospice Team! It is unfortunate that our state does not do a better job of regulating these types of facilities, it is a huge disservice to our elderly.

Medication issues

My mother was there for only 3 months. Had to move her out because of very concerning, poor care. Without ANY communication to me they prescribed seroquel for her. I found out when I received the bill from the pharmacy. After two weeks of no return phone calls and ignoring requests for a meeting by me, the NP, per phone call, who prescribed them, told me that if she wasn't on the meds she couldn't be there. I asked why no communication prior to prescribing and her reply was we just do it, most family members are not interested. I demanded a care conference and at that time learned from the "new" administrator at some point my mother had climbed out of her window one night. The administrator was called because staff couldn't find her and the administrator found her in the bushes. I was never informed of the incident and the administrator laughed about it and thought it was cute that she was hiding out. The "new" administrator spends a good deal of time locked in her office and fails to return phone calls. If something is wrong, her excuse is I didn't know about it or I wasn't here. At the care conference it was decided that the administrator would talk with the NP, who didn't attend the conference, about the meds and see if there was something else my mother could be put on that had less side affects for Alzheimer patients. The administrator suggested ativan and it was agreed that she would discuss it with the NP and then discuss it with us after we researched the side effects of ativan for alzheimer's patients. The morning after the care conference we were notified by the QMAP that something had happened over night and the ativan was prescribed and given to my mother. i went to Garden Square and found my mother sitting in a chair, holding a cup of coffee, mouth open, head back, asleep. She couldn't walk, said her legs were numb and she was very tired. Did she get both drugs that morning? The NP had faxed a prescription for the ativan and put on it "at request of family" which was not correct per the care conference. No one would say anything about it other than they were investigating it. They use a term of "snowed" for over medicated patients there. It was evident my mother was "snowed". I feel very sad for all the other elderly patients there whose family is unaware of the conditions and protocol for prescribing medications. I removed my mother from Garden Square within two weeks of the care conference.

Look closely

Not getting cleaned properly, sink in sisters bathroom was always scum ridden, floor in bathroom a dam mess, dust everywhere even after housekeeping had been in. Residents being pushed around. Staff being bullied. They have a new office staff and director, not much difference. It's too bad we live in Boulder city, it convent and we can visit daily, place makes me gag. Ridgeline needs to pay attention. This place was even quarantined, not allowed in and resident cooped up in rooms for several weeks. It was pathetic. Look closely,, if you are thinking if this one.

When our loved one moved in 4 1/2 years ago, excellent administrator, caregivers, food, activities. Dad was not safe..how can we forgive ourselves for letting this place in his life

My Dad was at this facility for less than a year. He ended up with 14 staples in his head. No one knows what happened. They say no one saw anything and there are no cameras in the hallway. He could walk and feed himself prior to this. Now he cant stand or feed himself. For the safety of your family member do not put them in here.

worst place ever, no integrity

Do not send your loved one a JEA facility! Care plans are not followed, management teams have NO integrity, and we have found them to be big BULLIES! Bunch of Liars

This place is just like all the rest in Utah and Wyoming. They all have the same sales pitch and this lady, Cynthia, had the audacity to say to me “I promise, we’re not just blowing smoke!”. Well, after 2 weeks we have been lied to more times than we can count about the care and well being of my dad. After one week of being told he had been showered daily, we arrived to find that his toiletries hadn’t been touched- soap still in the wrapper and everything- even after being told that he’d taken his gold bar of Dial soap and washed - there was no gold bar of soap anywhere to be found in the bathroom not one of theirs and the one we brought was locked in a drawer in his closet untouched. Each time we’ve come he’s been sitting in his mess- so much that after the first week...his feces had dried on his bottom creating huge, painful red sores. When asked about his aggression, we were told daily that he was doing “so good” and “perfect” only when we spoke with a CNA after about a week...she said that he was mean and hitting & slapping them and that is why they had him on a different bedtime routine. Today, when we arrived one employee told me (because I asked where his pillow was) that when she got here at 6 am she found him with “stuff” everywhere-“wiping it on the windows and everywhere because he had a very large BM in the night”. Yet Cynthia the nurse told my mom she found him at 8 am when she got here. Inconsistent stories every time you ask - They say they check on him every two hours yet, we have yet to hear of one instance of him actually making it to the bathroom aside from initial arrival and the times we’ve come to visit and we have taken him into the restroom. He is constantly hungry and today he has repeated over and over again that “they beat me up”!

Residents doors locked all day and they can't find anyone to let them in their room. Understaffed. Staff sleeping in rec rooms. Do not offer water to residents. Don't go here.

Memory Care Unit residents given 30 days notice

I'm the power of attorney for my grandmother & I just received 30 days notice that the memory care unit will be closing "for renovations". A senior living facility giving 30 days notice to people with dementia and Alzheimer's?! Renovations would be something I would expect to be a well thought out plan with plenty of notice to families. This is NOT OK and the corporate heads of Ridgeline Management Co. should be ashamed

Avalon given many chances- 30 day notice given to memory care unit residents

My grandmother has lived in all 3 levels of care at Avalon for the last 15 years. Most of her experience there was great. The memory care unit has been going downhill for the past year or so. Although not always cleanly and in dire need of an update, the people who worked directly with my grandma in the memory care unit were extremely willing to go the extra mile for her. Within the past week they have fired most of the staff to the point of a new person being trained by someone who had already worked more days than scheduled and they were struggling to keep up with the after dinner needs of residents. My grandmother and the other residents in the memory care unit are vulnerable, they worked hard for most of their lives and deserve to live out their lives without chaos & disregard for their health and safety. Today I received a 30 day notice that the memory care units would be closing for renovations. 30 days notice is what the law requires but I would have thought there would be more notice if they were really closing for renovations... Disgusting that the corporate heads are going homes which they know will be there after 30 days from now

Don’t!

This facility was a great place at first. However, the current situation is one to avoid. Bad food (bologna sandwiches? Really?) and an uninvolved, uncaring senior staff. There are too many options available to settle for this sub par facility. Keep looking!

A very regretful decision!

If I could choose NO stars out of five I would. Unfortunately she was in too poor of health and we could not afford to move her away from here, otherwise we would have gladly done so. I deeply shame myself for agreeing for my mother to survive here the last 18 months of her life; now she is no longer with us. I will have to live with my poor decision. I'm deeply sorry as I only wanted her to have a better quality of life and have some contentment, feel welcomed, and cared for. We were hoodwinked into thinking this would be a great place for my mother to enjoy her remaining years. Chateau Brickyard representatives came across as very caring and nurturing and were proactive on checking up on her before her moving in, but after she moved in and they were getting their money, all of this stopped abruptly. I can't speak for the other tenants here, although there is a fair amount of concerns that have been expressed by many of them for many of the same issues mentioned above, but I can tell you without hesitation and my families heartfelt truth: Please choose very wisely before even considering to send your loved ones here; chances are, it may be a very regretful decision for your family if you do! By the way, after her passing, there were absolutely NO condolences or sympathy, verbal or otherwise expressed to our family whatsoever. The only thing they did was complain to my younger brother regarding the negative review I posted! This goes to show and prove to you that all they ever truly cared about was profits.

Former Employee who gave 110% to the residents - Resident/client

ALZHEIMER'S, MEMORY LOSS, DEMENTIA, BEWARE!!!

Of course the people on the 1st floor are nice and it's clean; that's because they want your MONEY. But if you have memory-loss or dementia, do not send your folks there, because they are put on level 2 in the dungeon where conditions are horrible and confined, they have no soap to wash their clothes, and no gloves or lifts are provided. Take it from me, I just got fired from there after working 8 months giving 110% every day. I got sick from a resident and had a doctor's note, but the company and HR don't care. They really try to get blood out of a turnip from their employees, which is why they go through so many. These people need to be reported to OSHA.
