Did not have a good experience here

We had some major difficulties at this community. There were issues with items going missing from my loved ones room, and I feel they did not handle their medication management service well. We moved our loved one to an different Emeritus facility, which is doing a much better job.

Poor Staff Communications

The care was absolutely horrible. I live in a different state than my loved one. My loved one was supposed to be getting physical therapy, and wasn't getting the therapy they needed. In addition they lost lots of weight and this wasn't planned. The community let me know that my loved one was ready to go home. I received a phone call and had to fly down to get them out of the community The Colonnade was horrible and they fought me on getting money back to me since I was taking my loved out of the community. There were several staffing changes, and hopefully it is better now.

AVOID Keep Relatives Safe From Here!

I feel it is my duty to expose what has been going on here. The facility has been under lock-down since March due to Covid-19. Families of residents have not been permitted to visit or see loved ones now for 4-5 months. This would be understandable if it was being properly utilized to protect residents. Unfortunately, it is being used as a way for management and many staff to avoid any scrutiny or accountability. Until recently, around the week of [date removed], most of the staff, management, and MedTech contractors have NOT been wearing masks or PPE, when in patients’ rooms, around residents, or even in the facility in general. Management, staff, and contractors go to and from the facility daily exposing themselves to pathogens and possibly Covid-19. I do not know what the management under executive director [name removed] or her team thinks exempts them from following Governor Roy Cooper’s mandate to wear a mask. I don’t understand how senior care/healthcare workers could be so uncaring as to not wear a mask to protect residents. Recently, they have started to wear masks and are requiring residents to wear masks when indoors. The Covid-19 outbreak began in the US in March, when the facility went under lock-down, yet they only began requiring masks in July!?!? I know for a fact many staff still ignore rules and mandates and do not wear masks when in residents rooms or confined areas. The residents who live here on average pay over $4000 per month to live in a building where the air conditioning is not working properly, the staff treats them rudely and risks infecting residents with Covid-19. The staff is often stealing the food meant for the residents meals out the back of the kitchen. For the astronomical amount of money it costs to live here the food quality is abysmal! There are some amazing, wonderful, goodhearted staff here, who have been the only positive aspect of this facility. But the bad deeds and mismanagement tarnish the good they do. The ULTIMATE HYPOCRISY is they are not allowing family or outsiders to visit their relatives for safety concerns. BUT THEY ARE ALLOWING FAMILIES INTERESTED IN PLACING A RELATIVE TO LIVE THERE TO COME INTO THE FACILITY AND TOUR. They just check the temperature at the door and lead them all throughout the facility. It’s ALL about the MONEY$$$ here! I hope the State, County, and Media are alerted and open a full investigation into the dangers the residents have been exposed to by the noncompliance of management and staff!

Do not place loved one there

Do not put your loved one there unless you are staying with them around the clock. There are not enough CNAs to care for the residents. My loved one was left sitting in a chair all day long, not changed or cared for. If I asked the staff to do anything , it was a hateful response or they said "you will have to wait your turn". They did have great activities offered for mobile residents. I would not recommend this place to anyone under any circumstances.

If you are considering placing a loved one(s) at this facility, I beg you to reconsider! This property is part of 5 Star Senior Living, but there is nothing 5 star about this place. My grandparents have lived here since [date removed], in those 3 years, there has been at least 3-4 different executive directors. Each time, promises of improvement and changes to come are said, and then either the ED is reassigned or leaves, and the poor work culture returns. My grandparents have received rude and intimidating treatment from staff on a consistent basis. It costs a considerable amount of money to live at this facility and yet, in spite of this, oftentimes residents are only given small or half portions of food and leave the dining room hungry. The quality of the food that is prepared is less than appealing. In addition to rude staff, there are often medication errors in dispensing my grandparents medications. My family has repeatedly had conversations with the executive directors and even to the company’s corporate office and that has fallen on deaf ears. There are some very loving and wonderful staff members that my grandparents and my family dearly love, had it not been for them, it would have been completely unbearable here. Unfortunately, their good deeds get overshadowed by the substandard treatment and poor performance of job duties by some staff. I shared this same review on google. I want to ensure that the word gets out to the community on the extensive problems at this facility and the poor company culture that exists here as well as at its corporate. These are Unacceptable conditions for my grandparents and fellow seniors, many of whom are military vets to have to endure! If President Trump could see this place he would say, “Drain the Swamp!”

Don't Pay Their Bills

I'm a vendor and work with 100's of communities for ten years. Most pay their bills and have professional staff. Heritage is now over 60 days on a $75 invoice and others in the industry I have talked with are having the same issue with them. This is a sign that something is wrong. If bills aren't being paid, there are troubles running within. Find another place and ask them if they are current on their bills and what the rotation is of their staff, another sign of problem.

A nightmare!

If you care about your loved one DO NOT consider this place! They do not know how to take care of dementia and Alzheimer’s patients . Moved my parents here and within 6 weeks had to move them both out because they discharged my Dad for normal Dementia behavior. My parents have been married for 67 years and they never apologized or cared that they were splitting up my parents and that we had to take him home to our homes that were not equipped to handle the elderly. He did not hurt himself or anyone else but was severely traumatized by the experience of living at Forest Heights. The management is awful! He is now thriving at another facility and there has been no problem at all! I am writing this review to prevent others from going through the worst experience of their lives. It is hard enough taking care of your parents but I had no idea that a facility that you pay for and trusted could be so cruel and uncaring!

Shameless- mass exodus not surprising.

I just don't see what's to like, really. As expected with corporate mergers/buyouts, quality goes down and prices climb. Great job with spending money on the lobby carpeting and furniture, but no improvement on the quality of care including the food and staff. Staff members and residents are leaving in droves for reason. My mother has been here for 2.5 years and it's been very depressing for her to see what's happening. She will join the exodus this week. It's difficult for her to have to leave, but many of her friends have already moved away and I can see why. Shame on you Brookedale Beckett Lake. Brookedale, spare the insult of asking me to call and discuss, my mother and sibling have lodge complaints and you have turned a deaf ear.
