Forest Heights - Bridge to Rediscovery (memory care wing)

My Dad, who has progressive dementia and aphasia, recently moved into Forest Heights' memory care wing, which they call "Bridge to Rediscovery". I chose Forest Heights vs. other facilities due to its relatively small size, high staff to resident ratio, its attractive environment (much like a nice hotel), and the friendly, caring staff. It is also located ideally between my home and work so it's easy to fit visits into my schedule. The other memory care wing residents at Forest Heights seem calmer and more content than the other facilities I toured. I've been pleased with the level of attention my Dad seems to be getting and am especially happy that he is taken on weekly group outings with regular assisted living residents. He is adjusting to his new life there and seems to be responding well to increased levels of attention and activities vs. what he was getting at home with just my disabled sister as caregiver plus a part-time CNA. I am very pleased with Forest Heights so far, after 1.5 months!

Good but some staff turnover

I didn't go with them because the rates weren't as good and there was some turn over with the staff. The tenure wasn't there. It was also an individual thing of location. The place that we chose was more convenient.

So far so good.

We moved our mother from another assisted living facility because of poor communication and lack of detail. We are hoping that this facility is able through better corporate structure and systems to keep us abreast of any changes good or bad that occur. These facilities are all different and it really depends on the leadership (Executive Director is new) and staffs attention to detail. One important item that sealed our decision is that the state of Georgia is changing their healthcare regulations for assisted living and we felt confident that although this facility is still categorized as a personal care home will soon have their assisted living license. This will allow our mother to age in place longer. Only time will tell. Keeping our fingers crossed.

Memory Care team is great

My father started out in assisted living but moved to memory care after a week. Overall I am pleased except for the housekeeping in memory care. I have been told there will be dedicated full time staff for this unit soon. I know memory care is expensive and my father currently shares a room but the space is really small in my opinion for how much pay per month. I hope to move him to a private room when one is available. I am pleased with the staff and feel have good communication. I would like to have had more spaces outside his room to visit but that is limited in this memory care area. I would advice if your family member needs physical therapy check your insurance first - the PT that is offered by the Five Star Community on site was not in network and I did not realize it and got stuck with a large bill. I found another company that comes to this community that is in network and my dad is just as happy. In general my dad’s health is much better because he is getting his meds on time and eating 3 times a day - all of which he was forgetting at home by himself.

Some issues that probably crop up everywhere sometimes.

Staff in Memory Care was considerate and caring. I never questioned their abilities nor dedication. At times I felt they were understaffed due to severity of the behavior of a few of the residents. Those who required the greatest degree of supervision occupied staff members to the extent that those who required some, but less, assistance were put off or perhaps forgotten.

A great pick for the right person.

I toured Brighton Gardens on multiple occasions .The staff here is really nice. The director was a bundle of energy and the place quite lively for an assisted living community. They have a pair of dogs that run around and the atmosphere can be a little chaotic . This was a huge plus compared to other places, but ultimately this was not the right fit for my mother. I would say that overall this was the most fun loving place in Atlanta that we toured. Great location in Buckhead.

She very happy here

They need to do some updating and fixing of several items that are very obvious. The carpet in hallway needs to be replaced there is various rips in it that could cause a tripping hazard. There is still a lot that I still have to do because they are so understaffed. The main issues at this community stem from the fact that they are so badly understaffed. I feel like there’s disconnect between the level of care I am paying for and the level of care they are providing. Seems like I am paying for more care but she is being cared for the same as all the other residents. Their medication distribution is very slow sometimes the lines get so long that either you get your medication or breakfast. The staff is very friendly and their hearts are in the right place. They are doing what they can the problem is that they need more staff to help. It seems like only 1/3 of the activities that are scheduled actually only get done because someone doesn't show up. The food is great the location is great. Loved one is very happy here loves the staff loves the community. In general it really is a pretty good community.

Nice space but administratively unorganized

They had no onboarding process, housekeeping is severely understaffed, never see the director around, meal ordering is unorganized. They have attempted some improvements. I will say the size of the space for the price are better than most. It's just been very difficult to acclimate.
