A Place for Mom has scored ProMedica Senior Care with 9.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 1,897 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, ProMedica Senior Care has 3,961 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 4.4 out of 5.
The biggest problem is they need employees. They are being reorganized. On weekend nights they may have 4 employees working. Just because the staff calls in, does not mean the care isn't still needed. My loved one gets additional help and things have been better. They are getting noticeably better, each week, in a lot of areas.
Overall, a bad experience. All the staff want to do is park the memory care patients in front of the television in a recliner and go do other things. I sat with my mother for 45 minutes and no staff member came in to the common area to check on the patients sitting there. One patient fell and broke her arm. Another has fallen 3 times in 2 weeks. Yesterday, they mixed up patient medications, resulting in one patient receiving a medication he was allergic to. Most of the staff try to do their best, but they are woefully understaffed. The turnover is crazy. I know they say they have the best patient/staff ratio in the industry, but I just don't see it. I have never seen any organized activities for the memory care patients. They do have books and puzzles, and a TV, but they don't have anything truly interactive for the patients. Most of the memory care patients sleep in recliners in front of the television. Plus, if they're sleeping, the staff doesn't wake them up for their medications.

We only stayed 3 months. After 10 weeks they informed me of a 15% increase in the rent. When we were initially looking I was told 6% once a year. So after only 10 weeks we were hit with a huge increase. The facility and care staff were good. The admin- corporate end not so much.

Their cna turnover is high. Also understaffed. I found that having a strong advocate for your loved one is required. My mom had a stage 1 bedsore and it went beyond stage 4 and died.

What we like the most about Arden Courts is the staff. The staff is dedicated & demonstrates a caring attitude. Improving on staffing levels is of most concern. We would recommend this community to others, but only for residents that need a low level of care, in consideration of staffing levels.

I had my mom at Arden for 2.5 years. She has Frontotemporal-Type dementia (never formally diagnosed) and the staff was unable to effectively care for my mom. My mom chose to isolate in her room, not shower often, rarely change her clothes, and they let her do all these things. I was convinced that my mom couldn’t be helped and that I just had accept that she was difficult…the staff (including the director) pretty much agreed! He told me that they would keep her room open for a short time, as she may not have been successful at the new place. Several of the staff were nice enough, but there was a lack of training (for more challenging residents), that I didn’t realize before. My mom has since been moved to a much more qualified place and it is so much better for her. Night and day difference, and I am very thankful that we changed places. My mom now participates daily and is taken care of. Totally worth the move.

She was filthy with greasy hair and wearing the same clothes for weeks at a time. I wish that I knew to ask about staff turnover before she moved into the Auberge. I now know how important the staff experience level is. They had 100% turnover there. The hallways were clean but her room was filthy. My loved one was injured and another lady sent to the hospital by a violent resident at the Auberge. Many residents left to get away from him. She now lives at [facility name removed] and it is a much better place.

The sales person there is excellent and they did a full press sell on the place. Unfortunately, I haven't seen most of what they were selling. A lot of money for mediocre care. -The facility rarely has enough staff to make sure residents are cared for correctly. -The director isn't aware when people don't show up to work on the weekends and refuses to get agency to fill quota. - food is just ok. Certainly not worth the cost we are paying. Processed Lemonade or processed ice tea with dinner. Water is only offered if someone asks. Unfortunately many don't know to ask. Diet restrictions not always followed. - it is a straightened place but there is a terrible smell throughout. Like a deodorizer covering up an odor. Carpets are stained. Was told in July they were getting new carpet. - bathrooms in room is not wheel chair friendly. - clothing/ shoes go missing. - activities during the day, during the week are great. Weekends are very quiet with what seems like even lower staff.

Our loved one was there for 1 1/2 months. Fell 13 times. 4 emergency room visits from head injuries while under their care. Numerous other residents fell and had to go to the ER. One broke her hip. My loved one had an obvious thumb fracture that took three days to get c-rayed in their facility. Their doctor never gave results of the x-ray, even after I left several messages. My loved one went two days without her medication because their doctor would not return calls to refill her meds. I had a meeting with two administrators midway to voice my concerns and never got any response afterwards. Showers weren’t being given. Dentures got lost. Clothes from other residents were mixed with my loved one’s. Clothes were lost. Personal pillow was lost. TV shows were always wildlife killing other wildlife for food. Staff in a corner of the room with AirPods in both ears and on a computer, not paying attention to residents. Blood from a fall remained on the floor for three weeks.

My parent was admitted to order court and had an order for a low sugar diabetic diet. The staff consistently gave my parent the full sugar dessert after lunch and dinner. When I mentioned this, I was they only gave him A small piece so they don’t feel left out. They were given full portion, no wonder their blood sugar was awful while a resident there!

I have seen a change in the facility in the past year. It seems understaffed with high turnover. The residents seem more dirty and there is often an odor of dirty diapers when I visit. They’re left alone by themselves when they are fall risks and the ones that are low functioning are left alone sitting in chairs, all day it seems, with no stimulation or quality of life. The food quality has really suffered as well and they get a few graham crackers for a snack. I was also visiting and the executive Director was fighting/yelling with the nurse [name removed] very unprofessional. My advice would be to seek another place and take a look at the people that live there currently do they look healthy? Are they underweight? Do they look like they fall down a lot and have bruising on their arms and faces? I think they’re trying very hard to post fake positive reviews here and on Google so I wanted to tell the truth about what I’ve seen there.

Tell your clients to be careful with the drugs their doctor prescribes to their love one. Ge prescribed some drug my husband could not handle and he fell and broke his hip He wented into this facility on [date removed], walking and talking By [date removed]he was in hospital with broken hip couldn't swallow, and couldn't talk They visited one tone at hospital, I think to see if what condition [name removed] was in. Not one phone call or call after [name removed]died at a hospice house. So no I won't recommend them at all

I would tell others to look at other places. Just a few flaws: No mobility in activities all sitting No transportation available to go to drs appts Short staffed Activities are mediocre No real diversity Do not engage the resident Stage the visit Raised price No social worker or psychologists Hard to phone anyone Poor communication
Short-staffed and messages not being relayed to family members and parent went without a shower for 10 days when I asked to checked the chart. The center is under new management and it shows. The staff are caring with my parent but seem strained without enough staff and stressed by the many changes that do not just impact those that work there- but the residents feel the tension as well. Do not suggest until things calm down or get 'in order.' Considering other options for my parent.

The experience after almost 2 years has been very frustrating. Every aspect from getting medication for my mom, to the management has changed 2x and no one seemed to know what was going on. I asked the staff several times to have my mom ready for me to pick her up for a family event. When we arrived at 11 A.M. to pick her up she was still in bed. When I dropped her off at 3:15 P.M., the staff didn't even know she was gone. It was great in the beginning but the cost went up so much for what is offered. If I knew what I know now, no way would I spend that amount for that place. The changes in staff of the director and medical director have created a nightmare for me. I no longer have confidence in that place.

Smoke and mirrors when touring the facility. Misleading on the type of care our loved one would be receiving. We were told visitation is anytime, that they’re open 24 hours, but that is not the case. We’ve been denied access after 11:00 p.m. We were told we do not want to upset the residents. I was almost denied access to see our mom at 6:45 p.m. I buzzed in (the night bell has been broken since we've been there). I announced I was here to see (gave my mom's name) and I was told, "She is sleeping right now." I stated who I was and that I was here to visit our mom, and then I was buzzed in. We were told our mother would get therapy twice a week; however, just recently discovered she will only receive therapy if covered by insurance. Our mom received therapy the first few weeks she was there and nothing after that. First few hours upon registering our mom there, my sister and I witnessed a resident fall. This happened within a few minutes of entering the living room to meet up with our mom. The caregivers did not assist in helping her back to her feet. Instead, they praised her for getting herself back on her feet. We went back to see the room our mother was assigned and found a resident sleeping in her bed and the room was claimed to be locked. Staff members didn’t realize that a resident was missing or how long she was sleeping in the room assigned to our mother? This is a memory care facility and they offer nothing to stimulate or engage the residents to keep their mind moving forward. The majority of the time, the residents are sitting in the living room, sedated, sleeping in their wheelchairs or a chair while the TV is on. Some watch; however, they are watching a TV with a bad picture, not sure how long the TV was like that, prior to our mom residing there, but we’ve made several inquiries to have it fixed. Finally, after 75 days, it was replaced along with the broken blind that has been broken since before our mother was placed at Arden Courts. They are frequently short-staffed. Some, not all, of the caregivers are not as attentive to the residents as they should be. There are some good nurses and caregivers but there are a few that shouldn’t be in that profession. We’ve witnessed many falls that could have been prevented, if there were enough staff and they were focused on caring for the residents. We’ve had to call out for assistance many times when a resident was doing inappropriate or unsanitary things, or was in danger or going to be a danger to themselves or another resident because no one is keeping a watchful eye on them. Many occasions there haven’t been staff present for ½ hour at a time and residents just roaming, doing whatever and are a danger to themselves or others. Personally, our mother was not getting showers twice a week, like they stated. We actually had to bring it to their attention because our mother smelled foul. She hadn’t had a shower in 6 days and wore the same clothing for 3 three days. The residents are continually sedated, falling and hurting themselves, some end up going to hospital and returning with bruises all over their face. We had discovered that one nurse was administering an incorrect dosage of blood thinner to our mom. We don’t know for how long but our mother ended up with a blood vessel bleeding in her eye. This same nurse didn’t know that Zyprexa and Olanzapine are the same drug, until I personally had to show him. There is inconsistency when administering medication; it varies on the nurse and if they are short-staffed when medication is administered. Not given at same time every day and consistency is key for medication to work properly. When you address your concerns about medication and why it’s being given, we are told, “That is the doctor’s orders.” Our mom has been there since the beginning of December and in less than 60 days residing there, 5 people from her quadrant have died. All our mom wants to do is sleep and her cognitive state is being jeopardized because there is no interaction to keep them coherent. My sister and I spend hours a day, several days a week there with our mom and we’ve witnessed things that will break your heart; therefore, we don’t want to leave our mom there. We are working on removing her from that facility and trying to get her home. Respect your loved one enough to fight on their behalf and honor their wishes. They should not have to live the remainder of their life like that.
