Benton house of sugar hill in Georgia is really a bad place to send your love one. The management is bad. They don't consider the work their RAs are doing. They keep on hiring and the workers don't stay.They discriminate and and they use favoritism. The resident in Assisted Living do not really like the executive director.

Inexperienced at dealing with seniors!

Benton House staff is not equipped or trained to care for Alzheimer's patients. I would never recommend them to others.

My Mom was previously a resident at Benton House of Staley Hills. I would never recommend this facility to others. They misled us to believe that my Mom would do well in Assisted Living and that if she required more care, they could provide it. They left Mom sitting in her room without any assistance and within 2 weeks they stated that we needed to move her because they could not care for her. When I questioned them about being told they could provide additional care, as needed, they told me no one had told us that. I proceeded to look for alternative placement and the following week, I found my Mom sitting in her own feces. She had been sitting like that so long that she had begun itching and had feces dried under her nails. I would never recommend this facility to anyone looking to find care for a loved one!! After moving my Mom to her new placement, she has participated in rehab and has recovered to the point that she was able to move from Memory Care to an Assisted Living Apartment. She is no longer using her wheelchair and can take care of her needs, independently, on most occasions. She is making new friends, helping staff with activities and going into the community with the facility. I cannot state strongly enough that I would never consider Benton House.

My mom lived there twice, as we were hopeful she could live in an asst living home. Both times she was hospitalized. During the hospitalization we were told her level of care was too much for them and she could not return. We found another home. However, both times they billed us for periods of time after she left. Even though the contract states otherwise. We were even referred to a collection agency for the amount that was owed after she moved out. Was a stressful time to begin with. Felt preyed upon.

The staff here are very rude. This is not a good place for your loved ones.

Doctor was rarely in the facility even though we were promised weekly visits.

The staff at Benton house work outside their scope of practice and do not work from a holistic approach to care with the dementia patient and their families. Training is desperately needed to elevate the basic knowledge of the Alzheimers primary diagnosis and the progression there after; to better prepare and care and/or assist quality of life from the beginning stages to the end stages.

I would not recommend. Promises made to get the individual in and then promises not carried out.

My mother spent almost 4 years at Benton House of Sugar Hill. We were quite pleased with the staff and how mom was treated with dignity and respect. After one year on assisted living side, it became necessary to move her to memory care. However, everything changed the summer of 2015. There was a complete turnover of the nursing staff and director of memory care. The nurses had been very loving and tender and expressed concern as issues arose. But once new nursing staff was hired, everything was different. When asked how mom was doing, I rarely got any meaningful information. The new nurses and head of memory care were cold and professional. My mom suffered a stroke. After she died, I came back to retrieve her things. The nurse told me that all the assistants were quite shaken and upset about what happened to "Miss Ann". The nurse then told me that has she has "now been doing this for over a year" that she no longer got upset with residents became ill or died. What a horrible thing to say to someone who had just lost their parent. While the new staff may be able to execute their duties with professionalism and efficiency, there is not a sincere sense of caring or empathy in any of them.

I'm not happy about the fact that my husband got a bad cut on the palm of his hand and they could not tell me how he got it. I just think when someone gets hurt, they should be able to explain what happened and quite possibly provide better care/supervision.

We had a terrible experience here, I wouldn't recommend moving here to anyone. The food was absolutely awful. 90% of it just heated up frozen dishes that are prepared off-site. Even after a change of chefs it was still the same pre-prepared food. We had to leave eventually, I couldn't handle eating that food every day.

Lisa & Donna have a chip on their shoulder. I visited my mother 2 weeks ago. The place wreaks of urine (my mother's unit does), and the staff is indifferent. Flowers meant for residents are not delivered promptly to the room. The staff (Donna) at the front reception desk keeps them at the front reception desk for 24 hours so they can enjoy the arrangement and to make it appear as though the property decorates the place for the Holidays, and only when we call do they deliver the arrangements. The excuse for not delivering the flowers (literally a 30 second walk from the desk) - they're too busy. Be sure to carefully check this place before placing your loved ones in this facility.

For my Father. I let my father go there for a trail basis 30 days. I thought maybe it might be good for pop. After 30 days of being there, he was transferred over to the hospital. He had lost 40 lbs. They didn't even contact us. We had gotten a call from a caseworker who notified us he was there. I had noticed he was loosing weight and told Steven, but he kept saying “no he's not”. My father has no teeth and I had asked for them to puree his food for him. He had secluded himself in his room and shut down. They would not try to get him up in the morning or lunch time to eat, only during the night. He was having maybe one meal day, and that was really only if he could eat his food since they didn't even bother making it easier for him to eat it. I had paid a total of $5,600 for the 30 day trail and the month after that, and I had requested a refund. I would call Steven but he wouldn't answer the phone if he knew I was the one calling. They gave him only one bath in those 30 days and I had to go there and do the battle. I also found out he had gotten into a altercation with Langhorn his roommate. I questioned Steven and Jena, but they both said “He hadn't been in any fights”. They Lied!. The hospital confirmed he was in a fight, also so did his caregivers. I still feel I deserve some compensation. I was fooled. The place had looked clean and the food had looked great. The caregivers were really nice but NOT MANAGEMENT!.

Overall 1 star. My mom had a accident while in their care and no one could tell us what happened to her. Her face was swollen and skin scraped from forehead to top lip. We have not returned due to no communication from the staff. It seems that no attendant was present during the activity they had scheduled and the entertainment singer was the one who actually saw mom on the floor and assisted her back in her chair. Alzheimer patients should have an attendant at all times. You never know what could happen.

My 93 year old 100 lb grandmother was sent to the ER for being "combative" because the nurse continued to argue with her instead of deescalating the situation. When we moved her to Villages at Jackson Creek, we found out we were not the first to have been kicked out of Benton House because they are not an adequate facility to handle dementia/alzheimer's patients. Please do your research before deciding to go with Benton House. It was hard on my grandmother to move and I blame Benton House.

It is truly sad to see your caregivers cleaning, doing laundry, vacuuming. I have seen patients needing help & your staff totally distracted doing other duties. Very short staffed & that is a acceptable.

Caution! I assisted my sister into this location for the 30 day step down program after she left the hospital with a broken ankle & knee. Her 2nd night there she had a fall which was no fault of Benton House. What followed was a nightmare! She fell at approx 3:00 AM, the nurse was notified and the family was not. She was told that she would be taken for X-Ray in the morning. She never was. Later when she needed help for the restroom the person told her hatefully that she could & would get up on her own. She frightened my sister and with much pain she managed. No nurse checked on her the next day until we had made several calls. My young nephew went to visit and discovered her in immense pain. By the time WE called an ambulance & got her to the hosp. 15 hrs had elapsed. She had a shattered shoulder and broken wrist. After more time in the hosp she went to a nursing home & it ended up being 8 wks before she went home.

Just to name a few of the issues we encountered here: The doctor on staff took it upon himself to prescribe a 'black box' warning drug for a patient he had never seen, without consulting with the patients primary care physician, or the family member with medical power of attorney. The drug he prescribed was in no way appropriate for the patient. When his error was discovered he refused to meet with family members or the primary care physician. Additionally, all of the instructions that accompanied the patient at check in were lost, and the few that were retained were ignored repeatedly by staff that resulted in the family having to hire an advocate to literally go to the facility every day to be sure instructions were being followed. It was determined that moving as quickly as possible was the best option for the patient. Benton House was notified 24 hours in advance that the patient would be moved, but upon check out the facility was unable to locate any personal possessions of the patient, including all clothing that was brought into the facility by the patient. Run Away, run fast, go somewhere else, under a bridge would be a better alternative than this disorganized, unprofessional, borderline illegal facility. Reviews on the Benton house doctor in question are alarming to say the least.
