We were told the food would be good and nutritious, but It is all by Sysco which means frozen or packaged. My loved one wanted me to eat with her, but I just could not. I feel bad that she has to eat what they serve her. They have gone through 3 directors since last year and that makes it difficult to get quality care. We were also told that they would take them out to eat once per week and they have yet to do so. If I could move her to another facility I would. She cannot afford the other places so she is stuck here. I would say that it is better than a nursing home. I would advise family to make sure that they are keeping up with there loved ones illness and medications. Please be pro active do not take their word or anyone else's word on how they are medically.

I toured this location when I was looking into independent living. I wasn't a fan of this place, compared to others that I looked at. It was a bit too spread out for me, which would have caused me problems getting to and from things. The rooms were also smaller than what I was wanting.

Unless this community is able to make...

Unless this community is able to make some serious changes, I would not recommend it. My aunt is a resident and had fallen during the night. No one checked on her for seven hours, she was in the floor, unable to get up, she had injuries and couldn't reach the emergency pull cord. Also, the food has been less than mediocre. Some meals consist of hot dogs or bologna sandwiches with a salad. My guess is the food is assembled elsewhere and brought in - I do not think food is actually prepared and cooked in their kitchen. My aunt is supposed to have her shower twice a week. Recently, she went 9 days between showers. Also, there have been cleaning issues - bed linens weren't changed for 3 weeks. I do think the community has been short handed or has had some serious turnover of caregiver staff, so perhaps some of these issues are being addressed. I will have to say that the caregivers have always been compassionate, polite, kind, caring and professional. I would rate them highly. If management can effect changes, it would be good for everyone.

Not Good

I have to go based on my father-in-law because I have a very active 3 year old and and 8 year old and haven't made it to the community. My father-in-law is trying to pull my mother-in-law out of there because his report is that he's been there 3 times and they've had her locked in her room. He has complaints that there aren't enough staff. She'll be shrieking and then they have her drugged and she's out of it. Hospice is involved and they are recommending that she be moved to an SNF. I think the hospice nurses have gotten in altercations with the staff at Inwood Crossing.

Not a good experience

We did not have a good experience here. They seem to be short handed and my dad always was waiting for help to go to the bathroom...the food was below par and these residents had to sit at the table for 25-30 minutes before getting served. We we're told residents could sit anywhere to eat but this turned out to not be the case. They treated some of the residents that had dementia very poorly, snapping at them and admonishing them like little naughty children. It's a nice looking place but don't judge a book by it's cover.

I would not recommend this community

This was not a good community. The food was horrible and cold. The coffee was also cold. This community has a lot of residents with alzheimer's and it seems the community has gone down hill in the last few years. They did not keep our loved ones room clean. It seems they did not have the money to take care of this community. Some of the staff were nice and some were not.

Just average

I was looking for a place for my mother, and thought Willow Brooke Point's photos were beautiful. But the environment wasn't very inviting. There are people that seem to have a pretty high level of needs, but not very many people working with them. It was suggested that I visit during a meal time, so I went during supper. There were only two people there to care for the whole building, and one was so busy trying to give pills but had to keep answering the phone and helping the other one. I walked around by myself to look at things because they were so busy. The pond is pretty, rooms seem small. The chapel is just a hole in the wall area. Therapy gym is the smallest I've seen. Overall it was a decent looking place but not somewhere I could bring myself to leave my mother at.

For a five star facility as they are rated, this place really needs to work on actually caring for their patients. The service is at times mediocre and we've had nurses tell our dad that he shouldn't bother with pressing the call button because they are too busy doing rounds. We've had bad experiences with special requests (as our dad would need help getting in and out of the wheelchair.. They would let him sit in the wheelchair for hours before they'd find available staff to help him go to bed). If you are looking for a quality care facility, look elsewhere! They may have nice furniture and a nice place, but believe me, they will not take time to make your loved one feel comfortable. They only do their job at the minimum & we had a huge mess with them getting medicines & records right. We complained to the social worker (Lily) and she promised changes but never followed through. They will tell you all you want to hear but won't actually do it.

Mom did not have a good experience.....

I am sorry to say that my Mom did not have a good experience at Marla Vista. Just a few issues we had included: My Mom, like many elderly, had very fragile skin. It was in her chart that she should not have band aids applied. Someone in the facility put a band aid on, which was concerning, but what was really unforgivable, is that another personal care worker RIPPED IT OFF, TAKING MY Moms skin with it. My Mom called me crying from the pain this lady caused her. That band aid could have been left on to fall off in a few days, but instead, it left open, painful wounds that needed weeks to heal. This was done by someone who had a lot of experience working with the elderly, which makes one question the poor decision she made to remove it. My Mom also had breathing problems. It took me 3 different times to get the staff to leave her rescue inhaler next to her bed so that if she needed it in an emergency, it was available. The staff just kept saying that she couldn't' have it in her room with her. We needed a doctors order to do so, but they never told us that until we fought for it. The communication about important things like that were lacking. I had made many phone calls to the administrator, and she did not return my calls. I mistakenly thought that the staff member who came out to "assess" my Mom was a nurse. She was dressed in scrubs when she came to assess her to take her medical history. It wasn't until my Mom moved there and started having health issues, that I realized that this staff member had no medical training. It caused a lot of undue stress on my Mom and our family. We were paying Marla Vista at a rate that included 1 assist for all transfers. My Mom was found walking around the facility by herself on a number of occasions by family members who went to visit her. They also kept increasing her rate claiming she needed more care than initially thought, which simply was not accurate. We had to continually fight for her to get the care they promised they could give. The place looks lovely, which is part of what drew us to it. If you have a loved one who doesn't need much care, this may be a good fit for you. But if you have someone who does need quite a bit of care, I would suggest you fully check out any place you go, make sure there are medically trained personnel who are familiar with what your loved one needs, and try to make an informed decision. Sterling House of Cedar Hill, Texas

Our experience at Sterling House, Cedar Hill, Tx started off well, but has gone downhill in the 3 months my aunt has been there. One night, after she had gone to bed, she had to get up and fell. She laid in the floor for 7 hours, until the day shift found her. She injured herself trying to get up. She was unable to reach the emergency pull cord, and no one checked on her during those 7 hours even though they were supposed to check every 2 hours. The food has been less than mediocre. For dinner meals, the residents have been served corny dogs and bologna sandwiches (not the same meal), and sometimes the food is unidentifiable. Cleaning her apartment has been an [removed] same sheets on the bed for 3 weeks without laundering. Recently she had to go 9 days between showers. The facility has been giving questionnaires to the residents and families to complete and return. I hope this means changes are in the works. I will say that the caregivers are kind, helpful, and compassionate. I think they are understaffed and have a lot of turnover in personnel.

Evaluation of Villa Court in Las Vegas NV

A year ago my brother was admitted to Villa Court Assisted Living, Pearl St., Las Vegas upon his discharge from the hospital. We had to find an assisted living facility before I was scheduled to leave LAs Vegas to return home. Villa Court accommodated my brother in a very stripped-down semi-private room until a private room became available. Sadly, my brother died [date removed], the day after I left Las Vegas. A friend who lived in Las Vegas came to Villa Court to retrieve my brother’s personal belongings. Upon his arrival, our friend found only my brother’s wallet and a TV. His clothes, new bed linens, and his laptop were missing. We contacted the facility; they did not know what happened to my brother’s belongings. I contacted Villa Court several times to follow up. They were not responsive. This is a very uncaring and unprofessional way for Villa Court to treat their residents, especially at end-of-life. I would NEVER recommend Villa Court as a place for any loved family member.

Less than average Joe's

Head nurse at assisted living is beyond horrible!! Lazy and accusatory. The rest are helpful when you can get them to come help. Meds are not dispensed in proper time and were brought at a different time each day. Skilled nursing has been much better. Much more on top of things there. Unassisted is not bad other than food is sometimes an experience. Cereal brought with no milk or milk with no cereal. Things like that.

Night shift very loving and caring

My wife has lived in the memory care facilty for a couple of years. I have seen people come and go . No matter what time of the night I show up [name removed] always very kind and helpful. I really appreciate her kindness. Night shift is very kind and caring. The only problem I have is when I visit day shift they are rude and always complaining how they don't get paid enough. I understand but I don't won't to hear about it when I visit during the day. One caregiver is always outside smoking and smells like cigarettes when she returns. I pay alot of money for my wife to stay here and I don't think it is right she has to smell the smoke on this lady. Very concerned

Need [name removed] back

The old wellness director was so amazing this place ran smoothly and was always cleaned and the residents were taken care of very well! Now with the new wellness director this place is a complete joke! The management is horrible they have favorite employees that don’t even come to work and do their job. They are very unprofessional rude! Day shift leaves this place all dirty and it stinks when you walk in the door! It’s not fair to the people who come to work and do their job night shift was the best! Always helpful and professional. The residents are amazing.

Need more help . Need [name removed] back

It's ashamed how much money I spend here and this place is a mess. Night shift caregivers are genuinely nice and helpful. Takes very good care of my mom. Day shift need to get there stuff together. Always gossip and never come to work. I know because I visit frequently. We need [name removed] back !!! The new Wd is not engaged with the residents or helpful.
