A bad choice for respite care

My mother was scheduled to have respite for 2 weeks while my husband and I went on a trip. This was close to my son's home, so they could visit her while we were gone. We got there on the date that was preset months before and the room was not ready. There was no bed, no linens, no TV. They rushed around setting up a bed. The dresser was obviously someone's used garage sale dresser with a stained top. They put in a TV, but never hooked it to cable, so she did not have TV for 2 weeks. My daughter in law told me on one of our facetime calls that she gave Mom a shower. It seems no one had given her a shower since her arrival. The room had no chair, just a bed. There was a lamp on a table. Nothing was decorated as the room I saw as a respite room when I evaluated the facility. My son described it as a prison cell with bare walls. He brought pictures from home to hang on the bare walls to make it feel more like a place to live and not a prison. I called the director when I found out Mom was not getting a bath. She said Mom would say she would wash up when they asked. I put her here for them to take care of her in my absence. Who would let a shower go for 2 weeks??? Thankfully, my daughter in law kept Mom clean.

Do your homework

My mother was in the memory care unit of Sunrise at Ivey Ridge for two years. While the general staff that cared for her on a daily basis was caring and tended her needs extremely well, I can not say the same thing for the management staff. During those two years, there were at least four Reminance directors. Rarely did I hear from them and it was not easy to make contact. After my mother's passing this week, I had to place at least two phone calls to find out what I needed to do to donate my mother's belongings. I never received an initial call from anyone when she died. In my opinion, if you are in the business of taking care of the aging, a call to the family to make contact when they pass should be included on a very basic checklist for management.

I had to take my loved one from out of this place. Don't get me wrong, I thought this place was GORGEOUS when first toured from the outside building. Once in, the residents were quiet and appeared miserable. The Tour guide lady even brisk walked me through the place so fast, I couldn't even describe what was really there if I wanted to. They staff and its entirety act as if they are hiding something. An extremely high volume of miscommunication and unprofessionalism, is all that I was met with while their with my loved one. I have a better chance with keeping them home and paying a pre school, baby sitter to take care of them prior to what this facility offers with negativity.

not good

The building is beautiful; however, the care at the place is abysmal. If your loved one doesn't need any assistance, the place is OK. If your loved one needs any type of care, it is unlikely that it will happen with any consistency. The administration is only interested in maximizing profit. One day your loved one will be well cared for, but the next day, your loved one may be sitting in filth all day. If your loved one needs help getting dressed, he/she may get the needed help twice each week; but it is never daily. Finding staff isn't always easy as the nurse's station is often unattended.

Would not recommend

Poorly managed, the food is not good, things are not kept clean floors in the dining room area are always dirty. The public bathrooms are not cleaned very well. My mom's level of care plan was never followed the way it was supposed to be followed. She was given the wrong medication on several occasions when she was at the end of life it was supposed to have her morphine every two hours, one day it was four hours before she got her dose of medicine. Also, we had to contact corporate three separate occasions. My parents were only there a short time. They moved there in May. My dad passed away in June and then my mom passed away in December. They could never solve the problems in a timely manner. And the turnaround of workers was unbelievable. There were some good workers there and some very good nurses but if they were under better management, it definitely would be a better place for people to live. Thank goodness my mom and dad had me to watch over them and watch how things were going there there are people there that do not have advocates to help them.

Because it's beautiful doesn't mean it's a good place!

We had a very bad experience with this facility. They were told that my mother was early into dementia at our initial interview. We requested for her to be placed in the specialized care locked floor. They had no openings there but wanted her to move in and they would change her over when they could. They had multiple openings (empty apartments) in regular assisted living care area and pressured us to go ahead and place her. They collected a large deposit and first month's rent. We moved her in, (using professional movers since I am wheelchair bound myself at a cost of $960 dollars) only to find that there was NO HOT WATER, (and said it would be a week to repair), the satellite television connection in her room was so old it broke off at the wall and would repair " at a later date". They then said my Mother couldn't have meals sent to her, so they expected her to find her own way to another floor for meals and they knew that she was in early dementia and waiting for admission to their special care unit! She stayed there only 3 days before they sent her out to the hospital because she was "too confused " for them to handle. They refused to allow her to return and they REFUSED to refund any of the $8,000.00 dollars I'd paid them 3 days ago!! Our experience with this Assisted Living facility was terrible and seriously depleted our funds to care for my mother. I would not recommend them. They obviously wanted our money but NOT OUR MOTHER!! BEFORE YOU SIGN Check the faucets for hot water Check the flush of the toilet Check EVERY OUTLET for safety Check the television Connection GET THE SITUATION ON MEALS IN WRITING!!

Awful

If you want your loved one to move into a place that stays understaffed all the time, this is the place! All they care about is getting your $$. The residents pay way too much $ for the proper care they don’t receive!!! How this place is not shut down blows my mind.

Heartbreaking Experience with Legacy Heights Memory Care.

My family and I are devastated by the experience we had at Legacy Heights Memory Care, and I feel it’s my responsibility to share what happened so that others can make fully informed decisions. After more than 15 years of caring for my mom at home with early-onset Alzheimer's, we made the incredibly difficult decision to transition her to a facility. Legacy Heights Senior Living Facility came highly recommended and were told they had a memory care unit. After visiting over a dozen places, we chose them based on the assurances we received about the level of personalized care they could provide. When my mom was admitted, she was stable—eating well (with assistance), drinking fluids through a straw, continent when assisted to the restroom every two hours, good weight, and able to walk short distances with support. We were told they could continue the same routine: regular meals, 1 nutritional shake daily, hydration, repositionin

Terrible establishment stay away

They disappointed from the beginning aren't trained to handle someone in his condition, didn't administer the meds correctly and set him up to get kicked out even when given specific instructions they did not follow them then threw him out while we were away on business. Terrible terrible establishment. Took our money only to kick him out after 2 months when we were very open about his condition. Negative negative experience everything is 0 stars. Administration did not provide the services they presented us with when we signed on. We were told we could have a camera to monitor our patient, others had cameras, then we were not allowed to have a camera. I had to ask for the toilet and floor in front of to be cleaned often. Nurses, med tech and other staff on the floor were very pleasant and helpful. Administration staff said one thing and did another. There were mostly non ambulatory patients. My husband was able to walk, and was not often engaged in activities. He would wander up and down the halls, and I was told I needed to hire a sitter for him which I did. We were told there would be a ratio of 1 to 4 for patient care. That did not happen. They presented a glowing picture and they did not provide. This is a generous score. One day they provided slices of pizza for dinner for some and lasagna for others. When I ask for lasagna for my husband as he could not bite and chew the pizza they took his pizza away, and brought it back having been ground up in a food processor. Activities The staff was good but not a lot of engagement. Due to lack of supervision my husband fell several times. I was told I had to hire a sitter to keep him safe. It was prohibitive and I moved him to another place that truly had the ratio they said. I would not recommend if your family member needs memory care and is ambulatory. Expect to be told additional support is required at your expense.

My son met with the sales rep and they had a “special”” going on and when I asked what the monthly bill would go up to on renewal I was told they didn’t know well went up $[removed] and is now more that my retirement payment they also charge me over [removed] for delivery of meals to my room That I did not order when I spoke to the director was cold and indifferent to my situation now I am desperately looking for affordable housing i can afford it is a situation which is causing great distress. They should go on the income that apt do if I needed 2?& 2:2 times My income I would need [removed] a month I only have half of that and I can’t pay food delivery so I’m at a loss of what to do

They let my Mom develop cellulitis in both legs, leading to near amputation.

Last May, they let Ma stay in compression stockings for 3 months straight! Never assisted her with taking them off. She needs assisted living but they are greedy & want her money. Always fruit flies in her mo apt & they do nothing about it. She misses Dr. appts & shopping all the time due to van driver shortage. She can't take care of herself & her apt got broken into Thursday night, [date removed], while sleeping. Owner never investigated nor got back to me. This is frightening to say the least.

Unconcern of management about serious problems at the Terrace

At first we were very pleased with our experience here as the maintenance and other staff were very helpful and considerate. At the same time we found the food at times was so bad that we finally opted out of the meal plan. As one resident recently put it, "they must not spend very much money on the food, a good psrt of which comes in cans. Then there was the serious problem of mosquitoes which constantly plagued my wife and me, both inside our house and when we went for walks. When, mercifully, mosquito season ended in early November, we finally had a respite from all of the bites and itching. But since I anticipated the same problems recurring, once mosquito season returned, I recently tried to talk to local management about what might be done about the problem, and, basically had a very unsatisfactory conversation, which led me to conclude that we will face the same problem next season, but for far longer, since we moved in in July. So we are seiously considering moving away!

Review for Bayport of Fort Walton Beach

If I could, care and activities would be 0 as we had NO activities in memory care except for a handful of times, and my resident had medical errors, months of 8 to 16 hour periods of being left alone without any checks in her room, and physical injuries because of staff or other residents. They have gone through at least 6 executive directors and 6 directors of resident services in 3 years of operation, and a continuous revolving door of minimally trained staff.
