Tour experience

I absolutely loved Summit Place of King's Mountain. [name removed] their onboarding/sales gal is just awesome. The facility itself is clean, bright, and very active. I like that it is smaller that way they are able to give more individualized attention - their memory care only had 16-20 residents. The only issue for us was the location, it is a 45 minute drive from my house and I wanted to be able to visit more often. That being said, we were still very on the fence and almost chose Summit Place.

The Lafayette It Feels Like Home

My loved one loves it here and they couldn't be happier. The staff are very friendly! There are three meals a day served to the residents and there are choices to choose from. Some of the activities available include: happy hour, bingo, field trips, exercise groups, and more for the residents to participate in. The apartment has a full kitchen it it. The laundry facilities are on each floor and it is communal. The community offers laundering the linens once a week to the residents.

What really stood out to me about this facility is the staff. All of the staff have gone over and above what I expected and making my mom feel comfortable and part of the group. If she's not eating they will often get her something else to eat. They helped me celebrate my mom's 101st birthday on Sunday with a beautiful cake. It was very nice!

The staff was always really good and very friendly here. The food was not great, too much fried stuff. They do charge a high activities fee. I was told that if my friend was there for less than 30 days it would be refunded. They're now adamant that they will not refund the activities fee to us, my friend wasn't there a full 30 days. I intend to call corporate because it's just not fair or good business. My friend had dementia and even though they said it would be a good fit for her, it was not. The building is not secure enough for that condition. If not for the activities fee, I would recommend them to friends and family for assisted living.

A wonderful, caring environment with friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Summit Place of King's Mountain is a great place, especially compared to another place we experienced first. I wish I had moved my mom to Summit Place sooner. It's a very Christian, caring place. They're very transparent and don't try to hide anything from you. They allow you tremendous availability to come and see your family member. Everybody there takes an interest in your family member. It's a nice place - very clean, and there are no unpleasant smells. We had no incidents with the care, and they coordinated well with hospice. They would get so excited when she had a good day, and would make sure to take her outside and take pictures to share with me. I really appreciated their genuine concern for her wellbeing.

Highly satisfied

This is a good facility. I do worry about the activities and if mom is participating or not. They publish a calendar, but I've been there a few times when they have something scheduled on the calendar and haven't seen an activity happening. I'm going to reach out to the activities director and ask her about it. The staff is really good. They do laundry 3 times a week and mom's room is always clean. Overall, I really like this facility and my only concern so far has been the activities. I would recommend this facility to friends and family.

My experience with The Phoenix At Lake Lanier

I placed my mother at The Phoenix At Lake Lanier after touring numerous different facilities. The experience I had when I first walked into this community was much different than many others. I was greeted with kindness and walked into such a beautiful and clean community. No place is perfect but the issues and concerns we had were brought to the staff's attention and it was fixed right away. My mother had a hard time leaving her home of 42 years, but she now loves where she is at and has made many new friends.

The food service area can be improved. The meals is not served family style, and was buffet prior too. The Staff tries hard to accomodate my loved one, to get accustomated to living there. A Facility With Focused Memory Care

I'm happy with The Pearl. The facility is dedicated to memory care. Therefore it is not an adjunct to assisted living with shared resources. So I find that it's much more focused on the needs for memory care and is preferable. That's the thing like most about them is that they are 100% focused on memory care. The staff are very friendly and very approachable. They keep the facility clean. It has a nice secured courtyard that is accessible to the residents. They can walk outside anytime they want without having to be accompanied. I like the layout, which is a square, so they can walk the halls continuously, as people with dementia are apt to do. It has been a good experience.

A feeling of "as homey as it can be" - with care and eyes on your loved one

The location of the Bungalows is less than a mile away from our house, it's between my husbands work and where we live. I had parents in a nursing facility pretty close to there who did not qualify for assisted living, but this is my father-in-law who's there. When we started this search, we checked several different places in town. We were down between a couple places and the staff at The Bungalows was very kind. They were very kind, very helpful, and very informative with the whole process. [name removed], was accessible to me anytime I had questions and I did utilize that. I told [name removed] that my father-in-law is [age removed], but he's been used to taking care of his own business up until recently. He's very hard of hearing, but he wanted to be apart of them talking to him and allowing him to be apart of which room he chose and what he wanted. He really liked the respect of that. They took us to see several different rooms, we were looking at a 1 bedroom studio-type apartment and he chose where he wanted to be and he chose The Bungalows. He's been in Florida for 25 years and as we finally got his stuff back here, set his room up and his pictures on the wall - he hadn't been alone in a long time so it took him a while to adjust to that. We went over there one day and his was in the shower, while we waited in the living room. We started looking around, it looked and felt very homey, it had a very nice feel. It was clean, with my parents being in a nursing home it's a different scenario where you dread walking in to what you may find. Here, it's clean and there are no bad odors. Right off, he started getting involved in some of the activities. The first thing was toss bag baseball. He's traveled to a couple different areas in town to compete. We have a screen printing business so we made some shirts for the team and they very much enjoyed having those. We are in the middle of trying to find more activities. I'm unsure of if he's not watching his calendar, but we asked for one to be emailed to us so we could have it at home and remind him of what's coming up. With the food, he's not had much of a complaint. Overall he loves the lunches as they are the biggest meals of the day. Supper, not so much, but the hotdogs and lotter stuff he's fine with that. He does make sure to speak up when it comes to food and other times he doesn't, as he knows it can't be prefect. When he does speak up they have been very kind at accommodating him. He has a neighbor across the hall that he likes to sits with, they are both veterans so they have a lot to talk about, so he enjoys that. Sadly and joyfully it's been nice that I ended up finding out that one of my good friends from church's mother had just moved in down the hall. I was able to see her a couple times, which was nice because I hadn't seen them in a while. Her mother did pass unexpectedly, but I then found that another friends dad had just moved in last week. Coincidently in the same room as my other friend's mother, so that's been nice. To me, its a little exciting that my father-in-law is here, he has been away from Jonesboro for 25 years. He's missed out on a lot, but it's been exciting and a joy to have him back here with his grandsons and his great grandchildren, so that's been nice. My husband and one of my sons play instruments in the praise band at our church. For the first time, on Monday night, our church went over with instruments and singers and sang that night for the residents. It was very wonderful and heartwarming. I think they've planned to go back. They do have transportation and they do allow pets. We pick up my father-in-law for most of his appointments like his cardiologist because we need to hear what they say. Every 6 weeks he goes to an eye doctor which sometimes can take 2-3 hours. He is now riding the transportation bus for those visits and doing those by himself and that has worked out nicely, except for a time when he forgot his appointment time and got on the bus too early. We gave him a list of medications and phone numbers, so he wont forget, but it may be best for us to call the transportation service ourselves. We are just learning little things to make things better and easier for ourselves and for him. He actually had a 2-3 day stay in the hospital since he's been there, because he was missing his medication and his blood pressure rose. My husband just happened to visit and he was not able to understand his speech, so he took him to the emergency room. My husband was in contact with the nurse [name removed] before he went. This happened on a Sunday night, so she normally wouldn't have been there and although she was, I'm sure she was on her way out. She gladly came down to take his blood pressure and to take a look at her, and gave him some blood pressure medicine. Because we can't afford the extra care services, we've had to be more hands on with his medication. We were going to keep an eye on him, but we decided it was best to go back and get him and take him to the emergency room. I'm sure that I received some follow up calls from someone during that time, and I do think [name removed] the nurse was communicating with my husband and [name removed] was communicating with me. So, they did know when it was time for him to come back. Now, that Sunday night I'm unsure if anyone knew that he ended up going to the emergency room, but I could be wrong. He was having a little trouble getting used to the fact that most of the people may not be quite as alert. He's so used to being so independent at home, to now having people wake him up in the morning and take him down to breakfast, so he's working on that. We've explained to him that they'll be in and out to change the trash, or do his laundry, but they do knock before entering. It is funny listening to my father-in-law try to learn the names of the staff who come in and out of his room. The young man from APFM who helped me in the beginning: I would rate him very high. He was very nice and very kind.

I was wrong

I did not expect this type of building to be so beautiful and not see people who lived there to be so active and smiling. I think the people who lived there welcomed us like we been friends years before. [name removed] and [name removed] were so great. I like the options they have. We are back a second time to tour because their pricing changed. This is where my mom wants to be.

Welcoming and beautiful

The facility was so welcoming. [name removed] helped us go through the facility and really helped us understand what to expect. I really enjoyed myself and now know what to bring back to my parents.

Great Place to Be

We have developed both friendships, and relationships with the staff. The staff is very concerned about the residents, and very hands-on with letting family know about any changes.
