My parent lived here for almost a year. The facility is okay, but the level of care and communication is lacking. The food was less than desirable. The administrative staff and nursing were poor communicators and found them to be very fake in personality. Customer satisfaction is not a priority. I would not recommend a Brookdale facility. They are another "big corporation".

Things did not work out for us with my brother at Brookdale West University. It was difficult for an elderly person to get around, especially in the cold weather. The doors for the apartments are outside the building. It's courtyard style. It was easy to get lost if you took a wrong turn coming out of the cafeteria. The staff was great and would respond if he had a fall. The management was not so great. I think the commitment fee up front was steep. The food was okay. I would say it depends on a person's ability to determine if this place is a good fit.

When I went to visit there was no security and no on in the lobby to talk to or take me on a tour. I stayed around while & no one ever showed up so I left. No interest to look further in this situation where there is no security. Also it didn't have much of outdoor area for residents to sit outside

I have both parents as residents, my overall experience has not been positive. On paper and appearance this "community" is attractive, quite different once you become a part of Brookdale. I agree with previous poster about communication not being very good. Leadership is questionable, supported by comments of staff members. Staff turnover is a problem much like most facilities in this industry, but Parmer Lane is understaffed. Inconsistent in performing basic duties like apartment cleaning, laundry, responding to resident calls. There are some quality individuals working here that genuinely care about the residents, but they need more help. Don't buy into the Brookdale promise, attempts to discuss issues up the chain are futile. Investigate all the "perks" they offer.

We were scheduled to tour here, they knew we were coming, but they didn't seem very prepared for us. There was an odor as soon as I walked in. I didn't stay long, I could tell right away this wasn't going to work for us.

Resident fee for application and paper work was ridiculous. Place was worn out and rooms were shabby. Rugs needed replacement. No attention to details. I almost choked when the manager told me the room was ready for occupancy. In dire need of maintainence

We visited this community when we were looking into senior living options. This seems like it might be a nice place for someone who needs assistance, but it wouldn't have been a good place for us. It was clean and the people were friendly, and it looked like the care they provided was excellent, but it just felt kind of depressing, it didn't have a warm atmosphere.

We were not pleased. There were some issues with cleanliness while we were here. They left a feces rag in the sink, and feces in the shower, for a whole day. When we would make complaints, nobody would do anything. I don't think they were understaffed, but they were not very responsive.

My relative lives there but thing have changed for the worse over the past six months or so. There have been 3 or 4 administrators in the past 6 months and the current one is unpleasant. The billing clerk is unpleasant as well. Looks like they are attempting to cut back on protein at meals and the food is not tasty. It looks to me like they are cutting staff back and not adequately training the staff. I think the place is going downhill and I'm probably going to move my relative. Just not nice anymore.

I'm not very satisfied with the services with Emeritus at Heritage House. It's been rough. It's very aggravating to have to pay what we pay and nursing staff are too short handed or not paying attention to the residents at all. The staff is very discouraging, and if things don't get better, we won't be there to much longer. There was a problem with my mom's medication. My mom went without meds for 4 days. Overall we're not satisfied.

Not giving a final rating yet but the rooms are terribly small, storage in bedrooms almost nonexistent. Staff friendly. No pool. Only a microwave, sink, and fridge in kitchen. One small counter.

Some are really friendly some are not. They can't stand the food, I think it's how it's being cooked, and they run out of things like ketchup and syrup and ribs even, and the portions are tiny. The marketing director is hard to get in touch with about concerns. One of the reasons I chose them was because of the initial concern they showed. We also liked the location, we liked the size of the bathtubs. The heater/air conditioner doesn't work properly, and it hasn't been fixed. The care itself is lacking, and the staff needs better training. There has been trouble with the bills. They apparently changed management about 6 months ago and things have gone downhill since, from what I hear. When we push the buzzer it takes 30-45 minutes to respond. Some of these things could just be the assisted living thing, not the community, itself. Communication would be helpful, there were things that I didn't know, we would need, like toilet paper, shower curtains, those kinds of things. I even asked about a few of those and they told me no I would not need them, at first.

They are way to expensive, and they are understaffed, in every way. Value gets a zero! There are no activities that are geared toward visually impaired residents. They talked us into moving here. The pitch was awesome, there were so many things they said they would do. The food seems okay, and they manage to medication out on time. That's it. They don't do a lot of the things they say they will. The management is changing over, a new company is coming in. Every month the price changes. People are always complaining.

Talked to lady 3/19 they can't provide healthcare that we are looking for.

This WAS an excellent place until the new ownership change last spring. Significant lack of administrative and medical leadership or accountability. Calls never returned. Marginal follow through. Huge staff turnover and minimal coverage. (A few excellent staff remained) .Medication errors. No responses from the corporate level in resolving local issues. This facility went from an all inclusive rate system based on levels of care, to itemization for every move the staff made- resulting in care charges that doubled and there have always been room rent increases each year.

It is always tricky because they have room rate, medication rate, care rate, etc. Every time I turned around the rate was higher and the care was less. She spent too much time alone. She never smiled. She was always watching TV. She was crafty and she kept getting out. My sister didn't want my cousin in a nursing home, but they were giving me a warning that they would have to put her on 24 hour guard, and I thought that was a threat. We really weren't happy there. When my cousin said that she didn't want to eat, they would let her not eat at meal time, then charge me $6 for her to get her food in her room later. It just made it easy for them. She was just getting weaker and sleeping more. Just vegetating.

My experience is that hey are as bad as they were portrayed to be on Frontline. My mom never got moved in. They refused to accept her because I was running in to them doing the same thing that Frontline was talking about - violating state laws and trying to get her admitted without even doing an evaluation. They were not truthful as to what the expenses would be. They had no interest in what her care was. They were concerned with having to deal with me. They didn't like the fact that I was questioning what they were and weren't doing. They were understaffed and under-trained. I would not recommend them to anybody.

we had to wait a long time for the apartment to be ready. no one contacted us during that time--we had to call and got some strange responses such as "of course it is ready--it never takes longer than this to get ready"--to "no it is not ready" We just would have appreciated being kept up to date--elderly people don't like to spend money and then have things unsettled.
