It's really pretty, clean, but I would like if they did more outings, especially because they mentioned it when we were interviewing places. If they don't do them, don't bring it up.

A Place for Mom has scored Park Senior Villas with 8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 22 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, Park Senior Villas has 105 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 3.9 out of 5.
Thought the place was a lovely environment, however I felt like that we were promised things in the beginning that no one followed through with on their part. Also we were told visitors were okay , however that is not the issue. I don't think they can handle family visiting residents they seem to only be able to handle residents that perhaps have dementia or no family visiting.

My parents are not very happy here in the independent living. There are only 14 apts here so the interaction as well as the activities that are offered are based on joining the assisted living section. Their apt is nice and they have furnished it was their own furniture so they are comfortable there but the food and going to the dining area have not been the best. Since my parents are still very active this has not been the best fit for them.

The best part about it is its location. But there is a multitude of changes out of caregivers they're never the same. Therefore, they do not get to get to know the resident. The place might be better for independent living, but does not seem good for memory care or higher level assisted living.

It's a beautiful facility, but very short staff for the type of patients in there. There are a few caregivers that are excellent when they are there. The director there does not make herself available for the staff shortage which in my opinion is poor. She should be participating where needed as many of the patients are either wheelchair or bedridden.

What a great concept. Park senior villas goodyear has a great concept. Follow through with care needs is another matter. After multiple conversations with staff and after witnessing State ombudsman out on several occasions during may and june family members learned manager wasnt licensed and facility was in danger of license loss after not having license for nearly a year. State of AZ has some atoning to do. Some of the direct care workers are the sweetest, attentive people but are limited in scope. Medication management- is questionable- acting /manager and her family members (nurse and office staff) are in the money game. Breech of trust are regular occurrence, cleanliness and hands on assist is minimal. Chemical restraint is probable to make up for lack of manning. Isolation is probable for same reason. Facility manager will push for outside agencies / medicare funds to offset resident needs through “preferred partners”. Redflag.

These apartments were absolutely huge. And they had full kitchen. The only thing that concerned me is if my loved one needed to move to assisted living, it would be a move to a room instead of to another apartment. Also, if she were to chose to have any meals with the other residents, it was pretty limited.

I moved my father in to the Villas about a year ago. There has been continual difficulty with the level of care and constant staff turn over. There have been and are good staff but most don't stay. It is like starting from scratch with each change. I thought the concept of a smaller house rather than a large facility would be good for my dad but the only advantage so far has been that he doesn't get lost like he did in a larger building. The meals that I've seen are mostly bland and don't look appealing to me. My father doesn't complain but seeing the meals makes me sad. My father really enjoyed food and it is one of the few things that he can still enjoy. Overall I'm disappointed and overwhelmed trying to navigate managing his care. We've had private caregivers since day one at the Villas (in addition to almost daily visits by me in the beginning). I don't know what I'd do without them as they are the ones who prompt the staff (often) to make sure that his personal need are taken care of (teeth brushed, hearing aids in, CPAP is used and clean) and that he goes outside and does something every day. The staff in the house are kind to my dad and there are a few that have been amazing ([name removed]) who go above and beyond for him. I am very grateful for her and [name removed] and [name removed] (activities) as they have been consistent and very good to my dad. My experience this last year is that there is poor communication between staff at the Villas and poor communication with me as a family member. There is little to no accountability or follow through. I wish I had known it would be like this. I would not have moved my father to the Villas. I did not expect things to be perfect but I had thought it would get better not worse. I would be happy with adequate. Think twice before choosing the Villas at Houghton. It seems like the company president reads the reviews posted on this site. I can only hope that [name removed] can help me write a more positive follow-up review. I would love for him to reach out and help to make these last years of my dad's life better.

Location is good. Pricing at top of budget. Not considering this property because we need independent living that offers many opportunities for socialization. From a review it seems there is a very small number of people/activities in independent living.

I would not recommend The Villas at La Canada. The level of compassion that was shown to both my father and myself was quite disappointing. Employees blamed eachother for misscomunications and oversights with my father. This all could have been made right with better training of the staff...

Park Senior Villas Assisted Living will sell you on exactly what you want to hear. But in reality there is no stimulation, the caregivers/workers are never the same, my mom must have her medicine at exactly the same time 5 times a day. Her medicine was given to her when the staff decided to give her the pills. My mom was in their for 4 weeks and then I got her out of there. Her room was dirty, the food had no nutritional value. My mom was not clean and it was a sad place to be. I thought the goal was to feed the patients protein rich foods to keep weight on the patients. It was not what the sales person told us as all. Thank goodness we came across an amazing place that is not Park Villa. Stay away from it.
We move my wife in there because she has Parkinson's disease. She takes a lot of medication and they had a lot of trouble giving her the right medications and at the right times. She fell on the floor and laid there all night one time. The food is made in the other building so it's always cold when they get it and they don't bother to heat it up unless you ask them to. I lived right next door so I could be there everyday and needed to not spend so much time there because they figured if I was in there they didn't have to take care of her. After we moved her out of there they sent someone to the new facility to bad mouth my wife. I confronted [name removed] about it and he said no, course not. Do you think I would make this up? The owner of the new facility was flabbergasted when they came to her. He didn't identify himself, of course.

I was not impressed. So many of these places just have people sitting and staring at a tv set. They had no openings except for a woman that did not fit the situation . The second one was very nice, but had no openings. We went to a third of that day, and found one that was brand new and we chose that one. They had three openings, that was a good fit for [name removed].

This is based off of our experience almost two years ago. I am not sure if things have changed. My father went in to the Villas at Houghton in July, and by February he had died. When he went in, he was able to do all his activities of daily living. Within seven months, he was in diapers and could not get out of bed. he fell several times without staff noticing he was not given his antibiotics as prescribed. They washed his cell phone three times which I had to replace and he never had water or his eyeglasses. I put a camera in his room so I could've observe him. There were a few times when I had to call staff and let them know that he had fallen. They took the camera out of his room and I had to fight to have it replaced. They finally replaced the camera. I visited my father every day, but it still was not enough to guarantee quality care. The facility was short staffed. They were supposed to have two adults per house with 10 patients. Many of the times there were only one adult and sometimes that one adult had to rotate between houses because they were so short staffed.

141 citations from Arizona department of health for the company. Any of the Park Senior villas are missing fingerprint cards, and CPR certifications. Owner and upper management do not care about elderly. Only money.

Dispensed medication incorrectly and inconsistently, never cleaned room or bathroom with fecal matter on toilet and dirty sink basin for 5 days, lost clothes and towels after”laundering” , Meals were not what was on ‘menu”. Never changed bed linens in 24days….I had to do that and had to request shower for my relative because caregiver said it “wasn’t her day to shower”. Caregivers came into room and “ teased my relative” ( a memory care resident) about her not knowing their names and making up names for themselves, staff would bring in their young children and sit on sofa on their phones, when I finally removed relative I discovered open sore on leg with drainage. Staff never addressed or acknowledged this. Absolutely abhorrent “care”.

Our families experience was a disaster, our loved one had bruises on their body, they were never fed, and was severely dehydrated. Our loved one never received medication and when they did it was the wrong medication.

There were one or two good employees. Otherwise, I witnessed some disturbing things when I would visit from out of state. For instance, I was watching them dish up food one day. And the gentleman who was dishing it up put the food on the residents' plates and then reached into the serving trays with his bare hands, eating the food out of the trays. Meanwhile, the residents were welcome to come back for seconds out of those trays. My sister, who lived there locally, had issues talking to the staff about anything new that came up regarding medical care. She would have to tell them over and over about any changes. They went through management so quickly there, you couldn't even keep up. The food was absolutely terrible. Some of it wasn't even recognizable. They were supposed to offer another option if you didn't like something that was being served, but any time my loved one would ask for something else, they would just say "This is your dinner." They didn't have activities very often, despite telling us they had them every day. The last straw was when my loved one called my sister and said "There's nobody here to help me. What do I do?" One of the other residents' family members received a similar call and then called 911. When 911 showed up, there was literally not a single employee on site in the memory care house. They had just completely abandoned the residents. We had to wait months to move our loved one out due to Covid, but we finally did get her out.

I would give zero stars if I could. This place really should be shut down. Below is my experience. My comments deal only with the 10-resident Memory Care villa at the facility, where my dad lived for 14 months. He was suffering from severe dementia. CARE: I initially chose this facility because 1) it allowed my dad to bring his dog, and 2) I was told that he would receive memory therapy to stimulate his cognition. That therapy never happened. When he fell and required a trip to the emergency room, the put him in an ambulance – alone – and called me later. I was beside myself with worry. A dementia patient sent off to the emergency room ALONE??? The facility did not even know which hospital he was taken to. Their lack of concern resulted in a terrifying 2 hours for me while I called around hospitals in the area trying to locate him. COMMUNICATION: they use an automated phone system now, so it’s nearly impossible to speak to someone, regardless of which option you press. If you leave a voicemail, nobody calls you back. MEDICAL RECORDS: I made repeated written requests to review his medical records, as the residency contract requires. But when I visited I was only allowed to see his vital signs records. I was told to ask the contracted Nurse Practitioner for medical records, which he refused to release since he’s not obligated by my contract with the facility. STAFFING: during my dad’s 14-month stay in the Memory Care unit, the facility had 4 different Executive Directors. The second one bragged to me that she’d fired 30 people in her first week. The third one ignored my voicemails, emails, and requests to meet with her at her convenience. Caregivers routinely call in sick, leaving the villa staffed by one person. That caregiver is responsible for waking all 10 residents, getting them dressed, dispensing medication, preparing meals, and dealing with issues that arise. If the caregiver orders in pizza because he doesn’t have time to prepare lunch, he told me that management would not reimburse him. REFUNDS: after I gave the required 30-day written notice to terminate residency, the contract states that the facility will refund the security deposit and unused portion of the last month’s prepaid rent WITHIN 30-60 DAYS. After that time period had elapsed and we had not received the refund due, I contacted the business office for an explanation. None was forthcoming. I contacted them again after another week had passed, and notified them that if the refund was not swiftly issued I would get my lawyer involved. When I finally received the check, it was 3 weeks overdue. It had been written the day I mentioned my lawyer, and not mailed for another 11 days.
