Paramount Senior Living

Since this was my first Assisted Living Tour, I wasn't sure what to expect & maybe I was expecting too much. Emeritus of Manassas was relatively clean but very old looking inside. The lighting in the Public Restroom off the First Floor Lobby was poor, floor was dark color which made the room even darker, and not very clean considering the bacteria and virus the elderly can contract. The 1 Bedroom rooms I toured were very small, kitchenette counter tops were chipped, bathroom vanities worn and reminded me of a low-budget motel room. I was told these rooms were 'no where near rent ready'. I understand it costs money to renovate the rooms, but this is where my Mother will be living and her 25 year old townhouse is in better condition. I will NOT be moving my Mother there.

What you see in the interview is not what you realize after you move in. The room was not prepared fully until a week after move in. The residents have pendants to page for help. Many times no one shows up for the page, multiple instances of this. Weekend staff do not know what to do if there are facility problems in a room. Many of the new residents have never had an indoctrination meeting that explains how the facility works or how you get support. Food quality is unpredictable, some food has so much salt that it is not edible. There doesn't appear to be any resident management, supposedly sent to "fix" another Emeritus facility. They have physical therapy but sometimes they don't realize the limitations of the resident. To summarize my mothers experience thus far, disappointed, confused and has found no one accountable to fix issues brought up by residents. The activities are very good.

My family recently moved out of Paramount. Best thing I have done in a long time. Money is all that matters. I was lied to straight to my face. No one spoke to the $250 incontience fee. Would have been important since my family member was in a wheelchair. They are understaffed just read the Indeed reviews from employees. The difference between personal care and memory care night and day. Memory care is institutionalization. Ice cream sundaes party , day trips , beautiful lobby and dining room on the personal care side. Drab nothing at all special for a few thousand more a money on the memory care side. It is all about the almighty $$$ not the well being of the residents. Go elsewhere please

We toured Paramount in May. [Name removed[ informed us that they meet with the resident when they arrive to adjust their room to the physical needs of the resident. Told us they had bed canes for beds and if needed they would get a hospital bed. She said that she would do a home visit before my fathers stay in August. Months went by and in countless emails [name removed] said she would call to schedule the Home visit. The week before his stay she was ill but said she would come the day before. She called that day to move the visit 3 times and ultimately never showed. We were stuck because we had hotel arrangements for the weekend. So we took my father there. [Name removed] was very unprofessional and snarky with my mother. We met with the director of nursing who took down information but told the staff the opposite of what we had said. He was placed in a room with a small twin bed. My father is a big guy, would be 6’3 when standing. So the bed had no bed canes and no potential for a different size bed. It worried us to leave him there as it was not set up for a man of his size or his physical needs. The nurses in the memory care center were ultra kind to my dad. Took care of him well and he liked being there. Sadly within 3 hours of dropping him off he had a fall. And again an hour later. And one more the following day. We couldn’t wait to get back and pick him up two days after taking him there for respite. We had scheduled for a week but couldn’t leave him there longer than two nights. [Name removed] will lie directly to your face and again in email. Guess getting paid is more important than taking good care of the loved ones you take to that facility. It’s been 2 months and we have yet to receive the paperwork she was going to mail to us. Never again will we use that facility.

There was a daily activities calendar provided monthly. However, few activities were actually held. No one came around to remind residents before the activities, so residents with memory problems pretty much stayed in their rooms way too much. Residents who had memory issues could not remember to press the button to seek help from staff (my parent thought it was a heart monitor) so unless a staff member came by the room, there was not really much assistance from the staff. There were just too few caregivers for too many residents.

As they evicted my father after 60 days. Have a [age removed] man 30 days to leave. I will NEVER recommend anyone to send their elderly parents to live there

This place has gone through its 3 director in 10 months. The business office was over billing my fathers account monthly and that employee quit. This place has horrible management they only want to take seniors money believe me.

We moved my mom after 17 days. They could have improved on everything. There was not much we liked, except the aides in memory care were very kind, as was the front desk staff. The director, there are no kind words to describe him. My mom is now at [community name removed], another recommendation from A Place for Mom and we love it. I could never recommend the Paramount.

My loved one was there only two weeks. They caused tears in his wrists by lifting him the wrong way. They sent him out on Tnanksgiving to the hospital for chest pains. No heart issues but hospital discovered several bed sores in active stages of decomposition. He died 8 days later. They are not quality care. The DON was shocked at the picture of of the bed sores. The ED was not. Very rude ED. I will be making a complaint to the WV Office of licensure.

My husband stayed in one of their PACU room, dirty, un sanitized, the bathroom was dirty always wet and with the punky odor. Broken bathroom door, they don't arrange the bed of the patient. Every time I went there to visit him, his room is very dirty, the sink never clean. Many personal stuffs of my husband were missing like iWatch, Bluetooth headset if I asked them, they cannot give me an answer just a shrugged of their shoulders. I said worse because for 7 months that my husband stayed, he falls multiple times. The moment you entered to their lobby people there are not friendly. If you address some complaint and concerns, they will ignore you, their answer was I will investigate first. They will charge you first before they investigate. If you request for the corporate phone number, they will not give the number. Asking about the account ledger the person in charge does not know how to open the resident information.If you are in the position she must know what doing.she's rude

My elderly mother and I were hopeful that Paramount would be the just right place for my father when we met with the director to discuss the contract. We were surprised to hear that we couldn't have time to carefully consider the decision or to look at another facility. Under pressure to sign the contract or lose the room to one of the four people the director claimed were waiting to move in, my mother signed the contract and wrote a check for $[removed]. When we rescinded the contract later that afternoon, we were informed that Paramount would retain $[removed] to pay for the 2 days between our expressed interest in the room and the day the contract was signed. We felt like we had purchased a used car from a slimy salesman who pocketed some of our money because we wasted his time while there were other potential customers waiting. In spite of assurances in 2 phone conversations with the company's CEO and founder that my mother's check would be refunded in full, Paramount kept the $[removed].

They smiled in my face and lied to my face. My wishes were written down, but were NOT communicated to other staff. They were way under staffed. Friendliness, I would rate a 1 because it was fake. The director knew what they had going on but failed to convey the truth. If I could give a zero for quality of care, I would. As it is, I hate giving them a 1, but that is the lowest I can go. As far as food goes, I can't answer that because I didn't taste it. What activities? Save your money because the value sucked. Unless they've changed, steer people away from that place.

I wouldn't recommend any body moving in here stay far away from here because they'll tell you a price and roll out the red carpet for you. But as soon as they get you in here it's a totally different story. The price changes and their attitude changes.

GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING. we specifically asked if they took charge cards knowing that [name removed] would run out of money and they told us yes and they don't and then they took two weeks to return our 18 messages. We left to tell us they don't take charge cards and charges $[removed] late fee. Then every month we've got an additional bill for $[removed]for aspirins or depends and they never even tell you before they do that. The worst part was they gave us a move-in special where he got a private room for a double room price. According to their legal documents, we are supposed to be credited his care for the weeks that he was in Saint Ann's and now they're saying they will not credit us the care because they gave us a discount rate, but that was never put in writing or discussed. thirdly we've been waiting for a refund because he passed away before the end of the month and nobody can even return my call to tell me when I'm gonna get that. At this point they owe us over $[removed] and will not even return my call. I literally stopped in there yesterday, and the girl acted like she didn't even know who we were. Get everything writing because they will scam you out of money bad.

They should provide directive signage on the second floor as to the location of the elevator. Higher level staff should not use inappropriate terminology when speaking about residents to other employees. Staff should not diagnose medical conditions. They should alert a licensed doctor. We thought the actual care givers were very attentive and respectful, on a one to one basis with the residents.

This place was a nightmare. Mom always smelled like urine. They said they changed residents every 2 hours. Our family spent 8 hour days for a year and a half there. I saw her changed only a handful of times. Try a different place first. The assistants are not trying in understand the mind of someone with dementia. We learned they were taking breaks on 3rd shift in moms room and eating her food. Disgusting work ethic. Just run…. Research well before placing a loved one.

Lack of staff, terrible management who does not listen the patients or thier families and lack of luxury that is promised with a fake tour of a "set room". My family member told us that things keep disappearing from thier room and that the activities are boring at best. They don't keep staff long and when people finally build trust with staff they either quit or are moved to another part of the facility. Does anyone know what continuity of care is? Hospitals keep nurses on the same floors why cant they do that in nursing homes? Then we would know whos stealing and who is working. This place is over priced, poorly managed with a lot of excuses. The food is lousy and they will continue to lose employees and money because families will remove thier loved ones like we did.

I wouldn't recommend the community to others for their loved ones. The upper management lied to me about letting my loved one have a TV in their room and they didn't have access to cable or watch TV. They also promised that my loved one would be able to watch tv and my loved one wasn't able to do this either. During the tour the community made promises to me and these promises never happened. The nurses that took care of my loved one were very friendly. There have been times my loved one was not able to get their sugar tested because one of the nurses took the tool with them home, and the community didn't reach out to this nurse to bring it back to the community the next day. There were times that my loved one had meals that were delivered cold.

Make sure they properly assess your loved one's needs and capabilities. My dad was assessed appropriately for their memory care unit . On the first night dad was anxious and confuse ( normal for dementia) and he didn’t feel safe struck a care member. I came down to calm him. Second night I was advised they would press charges on him. I mean what aren’t they trained in dementia? He lasted 9 days we paid for well ore then that before they sent him to the hospital I was actually glad as I never felt. He was safe there despite me being ready to run down to the facility in a heart beat, I finally kept him away from there and moved him out. He is now in appropriate care level… I have horrible feelings about Paramount. I did call corporate and they did refund a portion so I give props for that but they totally profited off our elderly parents .. horrible experience.

It's fairly clean. The manager did not disclose some information. I would not recommend to anyone. There was lack of communication, which was the biggest problem. They need to improve on their communcation, and the manager needs to develop a better attitude.
