December 2015 A place for Daddy AT Brookdale, Sunrise, fl. My father 94yrs was an independent person. His only need was a cane to walk, wheel chair and hearing aids. after a long search my family and I went to the facility at Sunrise, FL and we like what we saw. WHAT I LIKE Most; The Friendly staff. A nice looking dining facility. nice stylish furniture, game room, library and movie room. Overall a Nice place to leave. A comfortable private room with new carpets and fresh paint. A private bathroom with safety equipment and screen patio. Overall the facility looks nice, At the time we were moving, they were remodeling the inside of the buildings with new paint and decorations. WHAT I Don't like. the back part entrance for the moving companies was dirty with oil and dead roaches next to one of the entrance of the dining facility. Door open 24 hrs.No security guards during the day and night. No RN during the night shift and one CNA assigned to the whole floor during night shift and week ends. The building consist of 4 floors with a Gran total of 200 patients. MY RECOMMENDATION; Need more personnel. RN's, CNA'S, maintenance personnel and another activity director. Bilingual than can perform differents activities and cultural events. to keep the patients alert and happy. My father payed the month of December in advance . He stay in the bedroom only two days. The second night he start having pain in his leg call the RN ,but she never shows up and next day we took him to the hosp and he never came back to Brookdale. He passed on Dec 23,2015 and now he is with GOD. RIP!

My dad was there less than 30days and he fell and broke his hip. We gave an 30day notice when he moved in because we were not sure about it. I don't think that they have enough people for the amount of residents they have. They may need a different system for room arrangements.

Our experience with Brookdale Sunrise has been somewhat mixed, but after touring a few communities in the area it is definitely the nicest that I saw. The facility itself is well kept and clean, and the staff are friendly and helpful for the most part. However, I do think they are a bit understaffed in the memory care section.

The residents that I have met have seemed very happy. There are a lot of activities to keep them busy and alert. Most of the staff seems happy with what they do. I know it takes a special person to attend to the aged. That being said, my mother has been in the health care unit for almost 2 months. I have NEVER received a call from the doctor or anyone else to update me on her recovery from the three falls she's had while in their care. I have received several calls about setting up an apartment for her to move in to without much guidance about insurance coverage. A little bit of the cart before the horse. It seems like the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing and certainly not keeping the family in the loop.

Atria North Escondido the facility is nice. My mother is very pleased with the cleaning they do. The quality of the food is not good and they may serve soup that is stone cold. The service might be very slow too due to not enough staff working. The personnel are very friendly and want to please. There are a lot of activities but mom does not participate. Overall it is a good enough place.

The Courtyard at Coeur d' Alene staff were very nice and professional, but they seemed to be short staffed. There was never a licensed nurse on board at the facility and I feel like they needed more one on one time with the physician. I am registered nurse and this is something that is important to me. Especially when dealing with the elderly. Things can turn serious so fast.

Less expensive than other options. Very clean. AC was on too high which made the place seemed cold. Staff had a professional, but cool vibe to match the too high AC. Cost is slightly lower than the competition, but nowhere near as inviting.

Our experience with Atria was pretty good overall, except that they did not seem to have the personnel needed to deliver the level of service they said that they were going to provide. They were very good people, but we did not receive the level of care that we thought we would. They are a good place for someone who is independent, but not sure for someone who needs one on one care. I just think they need more staff for one on one care.

Tricia reflects the compassion and responsiveness we want from a community staff. But for the costs comparable to others, the building and facilities seem quite dated.

In general I think they do a good job at Atria Meridian. The orientation people were fantastic, and very informative. The facility is clean and well kept, and they've got a great variety of activities and events to keep the residents active and entertained. However, there were a few things about the experience that I thought could use some work. I didn't feel like during the sales process they gave me adequate information about the types of rooms and pricing that were available. Now that my loved one has moved in I've had the opportunity to see a few more of the floor plans and there are some that I think might have worked out better than the one we ended up choosing. The move-in process was also a little stressful, there were a few maintenance issues with her room that did not get fixed until the last minute, and only after I really stayed on top of them to do so. But overall I think they do a good job here, Mom is happy and seems much better off in this environment.

They were under renovation so it was difficult for us to really see the potential. Also we scheduled this mistakenly thinking it will have independent living, which at second look is not listed. Therefore we paid less attention. However for what was there I saw nothing detrimental or objectionable.

Emeritus staff promised some things prior to our family member moving in that were not carried out. Such as, cleaning and re-screening the common patio/porch area. It took some serious prodding to get the vertical blinds in the room fixed, the bathroom repainted and a few other odds and ends. Recently Emeritus sold to Brookdale. Brookdale appears to be much more responsive to complaints and/or suggestions for the comfort of the elderly residents. Time will tell.

This was a nice place; it too had a very homey feeling. The staff was also very friendly but perhaps not as compassionate. Their grounds were just as secure, but not interconnected so there were several locked gates and it felt more institutional. Their community room was not available to the residents except during planned activities.

The facility was nice enough and I really liked the space in the room but they lack in the outside areas and community space. There is one nurse on location but there is limited assistance: ie: cannot give shots, etc. They are going through construction and updating which is nice to see.

We were impressed with the cleanliness and the visual setting. The food is probably about a 2. The most troublesome aspect is the caregiving. There seems to be a little bit of avoidance. They seem less concerned with overall caregiving, they are more concerned with doing their task and getting things done. They are always on their walkie talkie, and it's seems that that's how they do all of their caregiving. It's tough to figure out the right way to confront issues, without causing more issues. There seems to be a lack of outreach to the families when it comes to decision making. A lot of the caregivers seem young and they are being directed from their walkie talkies, and I can't help but think the residents would maybe be better served if those on the other side of the walkie talkies were doing the caregiving.

family said that at this point the place overall is quiet pleasant, however they have not quite been fully helped at thus point. Said it was a nice facility, but could not give rating when they are so unsure, and still quite trying to take in all that they have been through.

They are kind of at a disadvantage because they are remodeling and things are kind of a mess. Their staff could use some additional training, which the director has acknowledged. It's very difficult because my husband has anxiety and is agitated, and the staff has gotten somewhat afraid of him. I would like to see him bathed a little more often, but on the other hand I understand that he is giving them a hard time. Their attitude is good, they are very nice loving people.

I visited this facility and was not happy with the interview due to not being sure if only dad would need thier services or both of my parents. Both of my parents in the same room was not an option.
