My father passed away while living at Villas At San Bernardino and they never called to tell me. A lady from hospice called me, she would normally call me when she was in my dads room. She was at home when she received the news, so she called to tell me she was sorry to hear about my loss, and I was completely unaware. I didn't hear from the staff for a couple days, I just received a text asking how I was doing and that was it. Something I couldn't do was be there everyday because I'm in a different state and the pandemic effected things. There wasn't a lot of communication. I had to do a lot of it over the phone and it was hard to reach him, there were difficulties getting a phone to him. I don't think communication was really good during that time.

My loved one was only there a short time. But I definitely thought the food should be better. That's one of the most important things when you've gotten to that stage in life. You don't have much to enjoy anymore, so food is big deal. And I was not impressed with it. If you didn't want whatever their main offering was, you basically got either a hot dog or a turkey sandwich. The care depended on the person giving it. It seemed okay overall, but there was not a lot of personal care - it was all kind of going through the motions without trying to form any kind of connection. A lot of the people who work there are really young, and I'm not sure how well they related to the residents. My main complaint was after he passed away, there was no announcement - it was like they didn't tell the staff. So for days afterward, different staff members would come to his room to see if he wanted lunch, and we would have to let them know, which was kind of traumatic for our family to have to relive that over and over each time someone would come to the door. So they definitely need better communication with their staff. Also, they've never reached out to me since then. Other than when I returned the key to the receptionist, I've heard nothing from them, which is kind of odd.

I liked the community at the beginning, but as time went by it seemed my loved one was being ignored. The communication from the director was great. Once this director left I feel things went downhill after that. Everyone there was super nice and the staff is fabulous. The food was always cold when being delivered to my loved one.

Nice facility. Occupancy at 98% which makes it somewhat difficult to get the exact lodgings we require.

Too expensive.

The reason why I chose Brookdale for my aunt is because she would get a chance to be more active compared to where she was living before. Before Brookdale Denver my aunt was not allowed to go on outings because she would require too much help. Here there are many activities provided that she could participate in. They post a flier in their elevators of the activities that are happening daily. They update these fliers monthly. There are physical activities, entertainment, and things like that. The other residents that are there seem friendly. They had a woman who the staff named an ambassador because she lived there for a certain number of years. She came to greet my aunt when she first came in to welcome her. One thing about their administrative staff is that I faced issues with my billing. I found out for my first month they tried to charge me for things that I wasn’t aware of. They did not discuss this to me prior to me signing the papers for my aunt to live there. Majority of their staff team are friendly and I think it has gotten better that they are routinely checking in on my aunt to assist her with things.

For mostly medical reasons my loved one chose not to stay in this community any longer. She liked the community while she was there the food was good. The staffing during the daytime was good friendly and nice but the night time staffing needs improvement. There were a couple of times that my loved one had ringed for someone and no one ever showed up so that left her feeling uneasy that if she had fallen or gotten ill that no one would be there to help her.

It was rather dated and comparing it to Brookdale Irvine, the difference in price was minimal compared to the difference in look and feel of the two.

The staff was very friendly and made sure to take there time with my mother and I during our visit. They had a great complex with lots of accommodating amenities available for all of the residents. I just did not feel that it was the right fit for us and was very pricey for what they had to offer.

Well my first hand experience was not so good. Communication was slight. We were shown one room and then told new carpet and etc were going to be done by the end of the week. Our friend was 2 1/2 weeks in a temporary room after being promised to be in her own room within a few days. After we were told the room was finished it apparently was not the room that we were showed when selecting this place for our friend. The staff nurses however have been wonderful. Transition for any elderly is hard not only for them but for those who must place them there also. Sometimes frustration is high, tempers short, and when needs are not being met as promised it causes undo stress and negative feelings.

My dad has been there for less than six months, truth be told, I am on the fence with Brookdale Chatsworth. I like the building, room sizes and location. There have been some challenges with my dad acclimating there and a lot has been put on me as the family member to help them figure out. I would expect more from the administration and nurses there to help figure out.

They think they might be getting purchased by a larger company. Right now they are struggling to manage the quality of the food and activities. It’s a rough transition right now. The staff is great and what they do offer in terms of activities is great. I hope it’s just temporary. There is enough parking. They have a nice outside area. They are walking distance from things.

While my loved one was active and capable of doing things on her own, it was a great experience! It's a wonderful place with lots of activities! She was very involved in activities such as BINGO and mass. They moved her around and she got to go on trips! We were very pleased with her care and she enjoyed her time! However, once she went into Hospice, things drastically changed. They said that they were properly equipped, but they were unable to provide the medications she needed. I ended up having to schedule my own time to come in and provide the medication. I was very unhappy with this part of their service. However, a nurse informed me that, before they switched companies, they were originally able to provide medications. When they switched, they were no longer able to do so. Overall, in the beginning, it was a great experience. However, things changed and the experience dwindled.

The monthly fee is great, but the facility could use a major updating. The bathrooms are small, with no storage, and are shared with another resident. You can add decorative touches to the room to personalize it, which is nice. Most of the staff is very nice and helpful, but they could use more staff, especially on weekends. Because of this, my relative sometimes isn't gotten ready and put to bed until 10 p.m. or later. Also, the activities director has to do double duty and is frequently pulled from those duties to drive residents to various appointments. They could do a better job at cleaning as well. Sometimes there are unpleasant odors coming from various rooms.

The woman that showed us around seemed very rushed like we interrupted her day but here we were on tour of the place. I didn't like that.

We just weren't that impressed with it. It was a pretty nice facility but I didn't appreciate the girl's attitude. It took me 15 minute to get over there which should have taken 3 or 4 minutes but traffic was bad. I think she was getting off at 5:30 and it was probably about 5:15 at the time so it was like she was probably anxious to go home and end her day. I just got the impression she was not having a good day and she sounded off on us for going through A Place For Mom because of the fee they would have to pay.

It was a nice enough place, but not what we are looking for.
