Independent living looked great, but the assisted living wasn't a fit. Mom isn't that far gone, I don't think she would fit in with that crowd. I also didn't like that they check on everyone every two hours, that would drive her batty!

Looked good at first???

When my daughter and I arrived at Emeritus for our 1st visit, we were greeted by very friendly staff. The room that we met was very nicely decorated. However, when my father stayed there for respite care we discovered rooms that need to be updated. My father was not happy with the care or the food. The mattress that he slept on had urine stains, and the bathroom was in need of an update. The cable TV did not work I had to go get the cable service installed myself.

Just Don't...

From 2014 to 2016 I had two family members at Brookdale Roslyn, (originally Emeritus) both in Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing. One ended in a tragic and suspicious death and another in unnecessary eviction (which, curiously, turned out to be the best thing that has transpired through the ongoing months of turmoil and grief dealing with the facility and the Corporation.). Beware, and consider that they are a huge, nationwide, for-profit entity and, to truly have your loved one cared for properly, please, look to a different formula than what Brookdale Senior Living offers.

We were very disappointed in the facility. The staff was nice but appeared to have just basic training. The facility is in dire need of updating. It was not clean and had odors throughout. The rooms were adequate but depressing; we did not see the bathrooms. There were several residents gathered in the dining area for lunch. We reviewed the weekly menu and were not impressed. We would definitely not place our family member here.

Would not recommend.

We have more bed my mother out of the facility and will be filing a small claims case to try and get our money back. They did not provide the level of care for which we were paying and communication was virtually non-existent when we had issues to bring up to them including contacting their parent company. That should have said We have moved my mother...

1: 1 overall experience was lousy. Admin was poor in getting back to us. Billing and contract problems, the social director didn't encourage my mom or find her a good group of people to eat with unless I bugged her multiple times. Watch the sales team, they will try to confuse you and upsell you when signing up. 2: 3 cleanliness didn't smell, were a few cockroaches in my mom's room. 3: 4 Friendliness. They were good. Ok 4: 2 They will make you pay for everything. They left my mom in her bed all the time. 5: 1 Bad! 6: 2 edible. So so. 7: no idea since my mom didn't do much. I'll give them a 3 8: 2 prices are good if you are independent but they make you pay through the nose for every little thing.

Keep your loved one far from this place if you value their life

Families and Elderly, Please stay FAR away from this place. About 3 months ago they were taken over by a new corporation in California. They immediately raised prices and cut amenities - starting with the food. Dinners became grilled cheese with highly processed food. High in sodium, low in nutrition. My mother is a high risk for infection (which they know) and 3 times in the last 3 months she had to go to the ER. The last time she ran a fever for over 4 days before they finally called an ambulance and when she was rushed to the hospital she was SEPSIS and almost had her leg amputated at the hip! About 40 days prior to this incident my mother sent her 30 day notice so when this happened I cleaned out her room and told the staff her notice was definitely in effect. Well guess what? Yep - they just put through a charge for ANOTHER MONTH. Try to get a hold of someone - [name removed] just hung up on me. Now they avoid my calls as they try to charge more $$

Inhumane Treatment of Handicapped Person

Do not put your loved one in this place. The following shocking episode of inhumane treatment will serve as a warning. My son is an amputee in a wheelchair. He recently spent 2 weeks in the hospital. When he returned, he was not allowed back in. They evicted him without prior notification to him or to me. He was put out on the street with 3 boxes of his belongings. He had no food or water. No one came to get him. He spent the night outdoors sleeping in a wheelchair. The following day was blistering hot. He was badly sunburned, suffered heat prostration and had to be re-admitted to the hospital. Furthermore, most of his belongings are unaccounted for including his prosthesis. Most importantly, they did not return his electric wheel chair. and he is struggling with what he has. Lastly, when he was admitted to the hospital, I was not notified. He was simply missing for days. If they could treat a handicapped person this badly, what might they do to your loved one?

Poor communication

I am a friend of a person in this facility. I have a terrible time getting her on the phone when I call. They seem to be very short staff. I am either put on hold or they never call me back or they simply hang up. Make sure you have a cell phone or you are out of luck.

Beware

This is not a community you want to send anyone to who you love. The community is simply riddled with so many problems that management choses to ignore. These issues include: Months of residents using the backup elevator because the passenger elevator has been out of order for months; The community's ED resigned or was fired 2 months ago leaving a ship sailing without direction; Both kitchens in skilled nursing and the assisted living are infested with roaches for a year; There is no full-time community van. The driver who served the community for years was questionably fired and transportation is sporadic at best; Assisted living laundry services are sporadic as there are only 2 working washing machines, etc. This is a sad place for anyone to call home!

Do Not believe any promises Brookdale makes; it is only to get you in the door and get at your money!

I am an R.N. who has worked in a dozen or so local nursing facilitites over the years. I never worked at Brookdale before their last buy out by another company, but had parents living at Brookdale. All the services promised; ie transportation, engaging activities, timely response to call lights etc, are all empty promises. Both of my parents have been moved out of Brookdale at Rosylyn. I have spoken with numerous nurses, cna's and other staff, as well many residents and their middle aged children. The great majority of these people have very negative statements regarding chronic understaffing, staff turnover, and simply put: SUBSTANDARD care especially since they are private pay. As soon as you spend your life savings there, Brookdale will kick you out because they do not want to accept the lower medicaid reimbursement. My father was given the boot after spending close to a million dollars there at the age of 91. Oh yes, this company is going downhill so fast that no one should consider wasting their money for such poor service.

I was not impressed with the tour I had taken of this community for my mother. Everything seemed very dirty and was not well maintained what so ever. When they showed us the different bedrooms they where over looking a gas station out of the window and I did not like that. I just would not want my mother living in a messy facility like this one.

Don't do It

First the pros: Clean-Friendly admin and caregiver staff-In-house cafeteria-Activities Now the cons: Almost no attention to detail-Disorganized staff-Staff lied when confronted with a problem-Expensive-No follow-up with family So we left mom in the care of Brookdale for 10 days when we left the country. At the pre-interview I stated I had mom's meds all ready to go and just watch her when she takes them to make sure she takes the correct day. They said they administer the meds. I said great. At drop off I handed staff the pill containers to staff and then was told her meds needed to be in original containers. I stated I did not have them. No problem they said they would order her meds in packets to give her. This was a relief because we will be on a plane heading 5000 thousand miles away in three hours. The next morning, I get a call telling me I need to pay $500 for her new meds. I stated they were responsible for any charge since I was never informed the pills needed to be in original containers. They hung up. 20 minutes later I get a call form someone else basically saying if I did not pay the 500 mom would not get her medicine. I went ballistic. Shen hung up on me. Now I have to solve this problem from another hemisphere. Thank God for her doctor who got in touch with his pharmacy and had a supply of medicine delivered to cover the time we were gone. Absolutely no help from Brookdale. Then the staff lied about telling me about the pill container thing. Also told them at drop-off that mom's tv and floor lamp were not working. 10 days later at pick-up, they were still not working. Told person in charge of admin to please go into mom's phone and edit my phone number to make it easier for her to call me. NADA. So, I hope to God I never have to leave her there again. Please note this is only one experience, ours, make up your own mind. Thanks for reading. Have a blessed day.

Not at all happy

Set at one price, then raised over [removed] in only 3 days. Also wanted [removed] to hand out medication. Would have been over [removed] a month. Also, they missed giving him 2 days of medication. Told parent needed total care. This was false. Parent walks and can give own medication. I feel they were over pricing and just taking advantage of people, after they move in. Getting anybody to return calls was just a joke. Very unprofessional. I feel we were lied to, and would not recommend this facility for your loved ones.

I went to visit a resident here and there were terrible odors, they have rabbits but the cages were filthy and absolutely smelled. There was nothing going on to keep them occupied. The patients did not look well cared for and the place is extremely run down and there was a very depressing atmosphere. I will never consider this place, even if they moved my grandma in for free. I feel prompted to call the state and report them for the rabbits alone. I'd rather take my chances on an Eskaton facility. You get what you pay for. And I will definitely pay royally to have my grandmother in a place that actually cares and it shows.
