Oaks Senior Living

My husband has been there since late [date removed]In two months, the sales rep, nurse, activity director, manager, and others are no longer there. The turnover is shocking. The activities have been very thin like Bingo, and the residents are bored and aimless. The food is okay but very limited on fresh greens etc That said, most of the employees are warm and welcoming and efficient. [name removed], [name removed], [name removed], [name removed], several are excellent. [name removed] is new and trying to bring in some activities. She seems very nice. They tend to be very short staffed on weekends. EmpowerMe therapy is very good

I picked this community because I saw good reviews. They made all kind of promises. A pharmaceutical company put five bottles of boost in your refrigerator. I did not order them. My wife did not drink them. They were still there when I left, and the people at the at the assisted-living would not help me a bit.

Friendliness of staff. They need activities for residents in memory care.

They say they have craft and other activities like field trips, but I'm not sure she has had a single one. The majority of their patients have severe dementia and difficulty communicating. Our grandmother has dementia, but can still care for herself and communicate well. She just forgets what she talked about. There is a separate, assisted living type area in the front of the building and the people within that area had much nicer furnishings. I'm sure much much nicer food, but they were also able to speak and talk and remember. That area is more expensive and I'm sure it's all out-of-pocket there. The price is great, but the staff and management seem to careless. We asked them to add a light bulb to the fixture in her room by adding a working bulb, it had not been taken care of the last time I was there (about 2 to 3 months or so). It still hasn't been repaired despite speaking with upper management. Her room has been very dull and kind of depressing. You are also responsible for bringing your own furniture that includes the bed and dressers any side tables any furniture that comes in there and you're responsible for bringing your own bed linens and towels. There was a cabinet hanging off of its hinge in her bathroom that I'm not sure has been repaired yet. We discussed that concern multiple times with no follow up. It was just above the toilet, so if you were not careful when you stood up or sat down the corner of the cabinet door would hit you in the head. It literally just goes on and on. I gave in and took her glasses to her and they are gone. The facility has no idea where they are. BUT! We are about to get out of there! Amen! I would not recommend this facility to anyone.

Some of th staff not as helpful/friendly but my elderly Mom doesn't make it easy. Picked for location. I would recommend to others.

The Oaks at Ellijay is a nice looking facility and the staff are friendly. The meals are adequate. However, I don't feel that my mom always gets the assistance/attention that she needs. She is deaf, but most don't take the time to adequately communicate with her which makes her more confused and irritable. My mom is stubborn about asking for help and I think that's taken advantage of, at times. My biggest complaint is the inability to reach anyone after 4:30 or on the weekends. I've had serious concerns about mom, which seem to come up after hours and I'm unable to reach anyone. You can't even leave a message. I have complained to management about it, without any improvement. I have experienced similar situations with nursing rehab facilities, so it may be an industry wide problem.

We toured the Oaks at Pooler when searching for a Memory Care facility for our loved one. This facility was nice. However, the Memory Care section was a little dreary to me. I've heard lots of good reviews about this facility though, from friends and family.

The Oaks, an Atlanta based assisted living company bought [removed] over a year ago. One of the most important amenities to our family was the fact that Summit Place had a bus and took residents on. outings - lunch, shopping or just for a drive. The Oaks at Beaufort has not done this for its residents in about a year, claiming that there is a title issue with the bus. It has gotten to the point of absurd that this company cannot manage to get this bus registered. I’ve brought this up multiple times and get no relief. I have tried repeatedly to contact the corporate office but cannot get a return phone call. This is an important issue for residents and should be addressed.

We toured Oaks at Tucker during our search for an Assisted Living facility for our loved one. This facility is nice and the staff is nice. However, the apartments are studio apartments and that's not what we were looking for.

The residents are wonderful. They are understaffed, which has affected the services. It's challenging getting someone to answer the phone. We picked this community, because it was recommended. They need to improve on their communication, and cleaning the apartment. They have exceptional staff, and they are just wonderful. I would recommend to other families. Overall, we have been pretty happy.

Her experience so far has been that her roommates are loud and the staff do nothing about it. It seems like there is no one monitoring the floors overnight. It has gotten to be pretty bad and we are thinking about pulling her out. I don't think they have the help they need for the amount of residents. The food is edible but not tasty. They have no variety and so it is the same thing they are eating each day. The quality is not what we would expect for the money we are paying. The positive is the facility is nice and staff that are there are very kind and helpful and trying their best. They are responsive and try to resolve issues.

They should have never admitted my mom, she was too much for them and needed a higher level of care. She needed more than they could provide. She wasn't mobile and they were having to do much more work. I also don't feel like they paid much attention to her. They kind of seem to do the bare minimum here, I didn't see a lot of staff interaction with the patients when I visited. I would possibly recommend them to friends and family based on patient needs. It's not a stellar facility, but could be adequate for some.

I did not like the layout of Oaks at Pooler. There were two levels and you had to use an elevator and that was going to be too much for my loved one.

The Oaks at Conyers is a very clean community, but the levels of care and meals could be improved. According to our loved one the quality of the meals is not that good and they can be flavorless. Being on the memory are side the activities can be hard but we do feel the staff members are trying their best to keep the residents involved in things. With these improvements, we would recommend Oaks at Conyers to other families.

We loved the care takers but there isn't enough of them to actually take care of things or care for the people. We liked the staff the most excluding management. They need to improve on retaining employees because half the time there is only one caretaker for the entire upstairs and one caretaker for the memory care unit.

I toured with The Oaks at Conyers and I felt that the staff members were not very organized. That was our reasoning for not choosing this facility.

I will tell you the Medical director was unapproachable. She never returned my calls. The office staff was rude. I found out there was a resident next door to my loved one that was having parties at night with alcohol and non residents in his room. However a lot of the staff was very kind.

My Mother lives there, in independent living. When she moved in back in [date removed] the restaurant was fully staffed and the food was impressive, but then came Covid 19 and the ensuing staff shortages, reductions in the dining schedule and most importantly the quality of the food went so far downhill that to call it Chef prepared is quite the joke among the residents and this dining room has yet to recover. I ate with my mother last week and she was served a plate with a scoop of dry mashed potatoes, overcooked string beans, and salisbury steak with a gravy that was full of mysterious bubbles that reminded me of fermentation. It was Morrison's Cafeteria on a bad day. Perhaps Oaks will improve the situation in time, but after many months there is no indication of that. The menu may be Chef Prepared, but the food certainly is not. It's shameful that the new brochure is so untruthful about the food, and for nearly $[removed]/week to experience "Chef Prepared"! Good gravy, Oaks, you can do better.

when I first moved my loved one in, things were a lot better than how they are now. they've switched management a couple times, which has ultimately effected the care services, staffing and quality of the food. it's obvious that their budget has gotten tight; the food is just above average now, whereas it was excellent before. my overall rating of this community has declined a little because of the changes in management. aside from those things, the activities are still good, they keep the residents busy. everyone there is also very friendly.

During our loved ones stay at the Oaks community, the care takers were just awesome, and really did a good job looking after our loved one. However the management team can really work to improve on their communication between themselves and the families of the residents.
