There was not enough staff members to residents, and the management is not good. We have nothing good to say about this community. Walking in, it looks like a nice place, but when you get into the internal of the community it is like hell on earth. Only good thing we can say, was that it smelled good when they baked cookies.

My husband was in the memory care unit for 9 months. I was lead to believe the staff would be able to provide proper care for him. After a few months his health declined that is when I found out they don't have licensed care givers and not enough care givers to properly care for the amount of patients they have in residence Also they did not have a RN on staff for several months. Would advise do your research before placing a loved one here.

The residents are well taken care of. Care staff is always helping going above and beyond. The building and my mom's room was always clean. The front line staff is the ONLY reason this place runs well. Management is horrible. They are not transparent and always give you the run around. The nurse never comes out of her office and didn't know who my mom was by name. Staff always looked overworked and tired but still provided excellent care. During the pandemic lockdown they still did tours and let family members in if they were on the director, [name removed], good side.

Just received 2 ambulance bills from City of Escondido for my father that was a resident at Felicita Vida. They totalled over $4,000. Felicita failed to provide them with my father's insurance information and therefore he was billed personally at the facility where he no longer resides. Again, he was there in June, 2019, for only 5-6 days and spent 2 of the evenings in the emergency room because of Felicita's inability to take care of his dementia related problems. So the City just sent the bills for JUNE to my father personally at Felicita Vida. They in turn crossed out the address and forwarded them on to the family. They still have all his medical information, so why didn't they provide this to the City either now or when the incidents happened? Another example of poor organization and run facility. Please be aware of the inability of their care regarding dementia related patients. They are not trained nor staffed properly. My father is currently residing at Silverado Memory care in Escondido and is doing wonderful. ALL of their staff are completely trained in memory care and dementia related patients and treat everyone with such compassion. He is happy, well fed, clean, and engaged. Remove review 1.0 star rating 7/19/2019 Previous review This facility is better suited for someone only needing assisted living. If actual memory care is needed due to dementia, especially if your loved one has any type of outbursts, please take them to Silverado Escondido Memory Care Community in Escondido, CA. All of the staff are fully trained and equipped to handle even the most difficult of patients. Please keep in mind, anyone with dementia has no control over their actions or thoughts. Felicita Vida does not have the staff or training to provide the care of a dementia patient. After my father being there less than one week, two evenings in a row I was called at 2am and said they were sending him to the emergency room because of his behavior. This was after they said they could handle any type of dementia patient. They suggested Silverado Escondido Memory care as a better place for my father. Silverado is expensive, but your loved one will have the best of care and treated with love and compassion. For your loved one's sake, find a way to afford it and avoid the stress and confusion on them being sent to the emergency room and then eventually being moved to another facility. I no longer lay awake at night worrying whether my father is being treated well and is safe. Read less

Many of the Care Givers we met were nice, and it is a very nice facility. However There is only 1 person that we know of that has worked at this location longer than 1 year, and that is the Front Desk receptionist. We moved our Dad OUT of Bonaventure Castle Rock just before the holidays out of frustration of simply wanting better care and getting the services he was paying for. We had several meetings with different Executive Directors, and just when we thought we were getting somewhere that Director would leave and we would have to start all over with the new person. So much turnover should be alarming to anyone considering moving here. His apartment was not cleaned due to "Housekeeping shortage", sheets were not changed on a daily basis as they were requested to. Shower assistance not given as requested. Medicine not given because they hadn't received a Dr's order, however they did not contact any of us to let us know this was needed, so no meds given!? Staff were supposed to encourage him to walk to at least one meal a day, that lasted for a week. One day he left the building by himself and drove across Founders Parkway in his Scooter and we were told he was allowed to leave the building. How is that keeping him in safe care? When the front desk person leaves at 7 p.m. there is no one to get a hold of at this location if we had concerns about our dad (If he was not answering his apartment phone) So many worrisome issues we decided to move him closer to one of our family members. Please do not be fooled, Would NOT recommend Bonaventure of Castle Rock.

I moved my parents here after visiting with a new Executive Director that was going to “turn the place around”. I made a horrible mistake! The ED lasted four months, the longest tenure during our short stay. (There were four more before we left!) Staffing is bare bones and they receive little if any training. It is not uncommon to have only one caregiver on the entire Assisted Living floors which included at the time we left 39 individuals. Many of these residents required dressing, bathing and many other adl’s. This is not safe and should be against regulations, if the state of Colorado only had some! The good caregivers don’t stay due to a complete lack of support from management. The food service is a joke with residents frequently waiting over an hour after they order their meal. Activities are basically non-existent. We paid extra for activities reminders and no one came to the room to remind my parents of anything. All care is extra based upon a “careplan” which is unfortunate because the caregivers do not read the careplans. Basically, we paid for services never received! Two medicine mixups occurred during our time there and both could of had dire results. In short, this is the first bad review I have written and I take no pleasure in it, but I would hate for any family or elder to have to go through the upset and worry that we did for the time my folks were at Bonaventure. Please keep looking and go elsewhere!

Overpriced and underdelivers on all promised 'services'. My Mother was a resident for over two years, with a degenerative condition that the staff was unable and unwilling to help alleviate because of the 'difficulty' of her situation. Like many residents we continued to have a full time daily person to help her with her needs. The added expense pushed her overall care cost to over $100K per year. She was never able to utilize their car service in a timely fashion for medical appointments, as residents in better health dominate that service for their personal pleasure. Staff turnover was huge, more than 50% of the staff departed in the first 18 months, three 'executive directors' and multiple business managers during her stay there. Final injustice after she passed, they sent her to collections for extra rental days after we had removed her belongings from her apartment. Thanks for adding that to our list of things to deal with in our time of grieving. Heartless and indifferent to the passing of your loved one.

Bonaventure of Pueblo failed my mom. Mom was in the Memory Care section for 22 months. Things were fine for the first year, not perfect, but any issues were addressed in a timely manner. In April of 2017, we began having issues with mom's care. It became intolerable in October when I discovered more than 20 open sores on her back. No one there had any idea she had them or how she got them. After investigating, I discovered my mom was not showering or changing clothes for weeks and maybe months. No one ever notified us she was not showering or changing clothes. When I asked the staff, including the executive director, I was told my mom was an adult and had the right to not shower or change clothes. This is [removed]. From April to October there was almost a 100% turn over of staff in the memory care section and based on my observations I question if most of the new employees have any training caring for people with dementia. My mom is no longer at the Bonaventure of Pueblo and I would strongly recommend no one place their loved ones at Bonaventure.

This place is terrible. The management is terrible and there are residents leaving left and right. The director has no business holding the position. They take no responsibility, they just give you verbal words and there’s no follow through or back up. Just as one example, something happened with my loved one where they wound up in the hospital for 6 hours alone. We gave them 4 different numbers and they only contacted one and left a voicemail that wasn’t received until early the next morning. We tried to talk with management about it and all they said was “we’ll look into it and get back to you.” My loved one has lost a significant amount of weight since being there as well. They said they would be monitoring my loved one’s weight while they were living there, but they never told us about the weight loss because they never monitored it. I told them about my loved one’s inability to eat hard foods and it took them several days to get food that my loved one could actually eat. The facility has a huge turnover rate and they’re always short staffed. Anytime I try to make a complaint or voice my concern, they don’t do anything. It all just gets brushed under the table. That I know of personally, there are 3 residents that have already left and 2 more that will be leaving. The management there shouldn’t even be in charge of dogs, they don’t do anything. The place is awful and I feel horrible for the residents that are still there.

It is a clean facility. But it is not friendly. There are the minimum of care workers. There are no security guards at night. And the food is terrible. The activities are few and are given to unqualified people to administer -if they even show up to conduct the activities! Independent Living renters check out as quickly as they can. My experience before the management changed in the fall of 2016 was more positive but Bonaventure in Colorado Springs is a depressing, badly managed, poorly staffed place. I cannot honestly recommend it to anyone.

Unfortunately I would not recommend this place to anyone. There have been 5 Executive Directors in the last 4 years my mother in law has lived there! This community is managed poorly from the corporate level and with the exception of a few people, the staff is in constant turnover. Food quality is not good as chef's keep leaving Sunrise. Elevators are constantly broken and the fire department is always over to "free" either a resident or guest from the elevators. Not enough staff especially after hours to even open the door when a resident returns after 8 pm from an outing with family. It's clear that the organization is not willing to invest in the property or it's staff yet Sunrise keeps raising the rates every year. They are not interested in your loved ones...just your loved one's check!

Do not place your loved one here. The care was ok a few years ago . 2016 everything changed. There is no communication and the administration is only interested in making a profit from your loved one. The leadership cannot manage the place. Large turn over so the care for your loved one suffers drastically. They forget to take them to meals. They mess up their medication. Their healthcare decreased. They do not call when there is something wrong with a loved one till it's to late. The nurse staff does their best but the administration is unorganized and the person in charge of caregivers has no medical or leadership back ground. The room smelled of urine often and the carpets never cleaned. You pay a lot of money for a nice room and the basic fixtures and water / toilet doesn't work. The food was good a few years ago but in 2016 the food was like TV dinners. Several times our loved one wasn't brought to their meal and when ill wasn't offered food. I saw several times the residents being left outside and caregivers complaining about having to spend time with the residents. The caregivers/staff could be often found standing or sitting in main areas chatting with each other instead of caring for the residents. I could hear their call buttons go on and the staff would laugh and say they will get to it later. Seemed that this year the over all Staff became very unhappy and their work ethics changed. They just didn't want to spend time with residents and work to make their lives enjoyable. I am thankful I no longer have to worry about my loved one anymore. In a much better place .

Had a wonderful tour, and had planned to bring my parents in for a "trial run" for a permanent stay. However, at some point the sales associate who gave me the tour disappeared, and was replaced by a terrible woman who was rude, dismissive and said they didn't do respite care after all. I am so disappointed, as this place seemed like a slam-dunk for my parents.

Our experience with Valley View Gardens was not a good one. The facility itself never seemed very clean, and had a noticeable odor. They had a poor resident to staff ratio, and care staff were always hard to find when you needed them. They also really need to improve the food. Other than the activities director, who I think was wonderful, I was disappointed with the whole experience.

My Father's pendant was not working and he fell trying to go to the bathroom by himself. He broke 2 vertebrae in his back and may never walk again as a result of this fall. While falls are very common for seniors, there is a distinct chance that we could have avoided the fall and fractures if his pendant was working. Felicita Vida management never formally apologized for this pendant failure. They continue to lure people in with 10 min response times that are not realistic. They have no system in place that notifies them when a pendant is offline or not working. This should be very scary for anyone considering this place. Since Mar 2016, there has been significant employee turnover including the most important people: Executive Director, Assisted Living Director, Chef, Med Techs, caregivers etc. This is very troubling since the facility just opened in 2015. They seem to hire very young & inexperienced care givers who, while are very energetic & willing, need more training to "know" the right thing to do. For how expensive this place is, the food is just okay and really needs more healthy fresh greens (not just lame salads) and fresh cut fruits. Too many carbs and sweets. The facility is nice & new and the sales gals are great. You would be very wise to dig deeper & ask about how many/why residents have moved out recently AND also understand how the new management is going to deliver great care of your loved one.

My review of this place can be summarized in several words: DON'T GO THERE!!!! I toured the place while looking for a memory care facility for my mother. The "sales rep" assured me that the staff was well-trained and experienced in dementia. HAHAHA, what a joke! When I checked my mom in, I was shocked!!! My mom was left alone in her room for many hours, without any activities or other engagement. They're seriously UNDER staffed, UNDER trained, and POORLY run, and should loose their license. Basically, I was paying thousands of dollars a month for a room for her to sit in! After a week, I removed my mother, knowing that I could not subject her to the woefully substandard care she was getting. The place is run by a corporation in Carlsbad, and they refused to fully refund my money, forcing me to take them to court to recover. BE WARNED: AVOID THIS FACILITY IF YOU WANT A QUALITY FACILITY FOR YOUR LOVED ONE!! PS. As I learned the hard way, this same corporation also manages "[Removed]", another joke of a "memory care" facility in [Removed], so I strongly recommend that you stay clear of that facility, as well!

Constant reminder to bathe parent. Have found parent wearing same clothing for several days at a time. I've had to bathe and change clothes numerous times. Once I was told he had not been bathed in a week. Makes me wonder if he is getting his medications regularly. They workers seem to be over worked, When I went through the tour I was told nothing was need except my parent's clothing. Since then, we are reminded to bring gloves, towels, diapers, toiletries. All those items should have been requested from day one.

Do not move yourself or a loved one into Bonaventure Colorado Springs. We moved our parents in at the beginning of 2016 and we just moved them out at the end of May 2016. The 5 months in between was a nightmare both for our parents and for us. The root of the problems at Bonaventure is management, or should I say the lack of management. In the 5 months that my parents lived there, there was literally 90%+ turn over in management and staff. When we were meeting with the Executive Director prior to move in she assured us that there was a nurse on staff. After move-in we discovered there wasn't a nurse on staff. The ED had flat out lied to us. They hired a nurse about 6 weeks in, but she left after one month. Virtually all of the caregivers quit during the time of my parent's stay. One day a girl showed up and wanted my parents to buy prescriptions, even though they get their prescriptions through their insurance (they declined to accept the drugs). A couple of weeks later, my parents got a $500 bill for the drugs. The ED, said she would take care of it. A month later, the same thing happened and their bill was now up to $1000. My parents never gave Bonaventure permission to buy their prescriptions. I wonder what happened to the drugs my parents declined to accept? There was no check-in process when my parents moved in. No handbook, no interview, no staff welcome. We never got exterior keys or remote entries. We came home one night at 7:45 PM to find all the doors locked, no one on staff was there, and we had no keys or remotes to get in. The food is terrible, and turnover amongst the kitchen staff is atrocious. Expect to wait 2 hours to finish dinner, and expect to get cold, poorly prepared food. The kitchen routinely ran of of food and substituted reheated frozen food. One day there was a fire alarm, and several residents got stuck in the elevator. No staff member knew what to do. It took way too long for someone to get the fire department to let the poor, scared elderly residents out of the elevator. One of the residents had a stroke and no one on staff knew what to do. After an unacceptable delay someone called 911. The 5 months that my 80 year old parents were there was so stressful that they both suffered health problems. Amongst management, there is a pervasive atmosphere of lying, backstabbing, and CYA. The morale amongst the staff is very low. The only person who did an outstanding job was the sales guy who schmoozed us with delicious meals in the dining room (last one my parents ever had there), gifts and promises. We moved my parents into a nearby competing facility 5 days ago and the change has been like night and day. For the first time in 5 months, I feel comfortable knowing my parents are in a safe, caring facility. I implore you that if you're considering Bonaventure, ask them hard questions. Ask them about turnover. Ask them about residents leaving. Ask them about qualified staff. But don't take their word for it. They WILL lie to you. Ask to speak with residents. Ask residents about how many people leave after only a short time there. I've truly never seen a more poorly managed business in my entire life. When your loved ones should be facing the end of their lives in peace, serenity and comfort, Bonaventure delivers stress, uncertainty and incompetence.
