They have it set up like little cottages. It's not one big huge institutional place. They all have wrap around porches and rocking chairs. It has a very country feel to it which my grandmother liked but she really like the food at another place. She used to be an institutional chef so she's really picky about the food.

This was the only other place in Salinas that I would consider. It's not so much what I liked about but what I didn't like about it. Villa Serra is really big. My mom has had a stroke so sometimes talking is difficult and I was worried that with that many people she might not want to be out amongst them so much, even though she is very social. My first impression wasn't great because you open the doors and you walk in and there are 15 people in wheelchairs all crowded around the front door. The carpet was kind of funky and the hallway was really dark. I brought this up with the woman who was giving me a tour and she said they were just starting to do some remodeling with painting and new carpet. I haven't been back so I'm not sure how that turned out.

My aunt has been there for 6 weeks and we got off to a little bit of a rocky start. They've had almost a complete personnel turnover and so they are, in my opinion, having a little bit of trouble getting organized. The facility it's self is lovely and everybody seem to be very nice and caring. I would say, right now, they're in transition and so are we so I'm a little uncertain about how things are done. I think part of it is that I need to learn their system better and part of it may be that they're still trying to discern who is in charge and who does what. My aunt has a need for insulin injection everyday and it's very difficult to find a place that can do that - Sunrise can. Everyone seems very well intended, I'm just not certain they have their new staff up and running. They're always very willing to listen to you or come to your aid. I need to learn their system a little bit better and I think they are still learning also. The attitude of the people is very caring so I'm hoping we can get the other little things ironed out.

They did not have any openings first of all. It was okay but it just wasn't as nice as another place I was looking at. It was clean but not as new. Otherwise it was a very nice community. I just didn't like that is was not as new.

It's clean and they make a huge effort to make it cheery with big greetings. It not luxurious or anything but overall they are head and shoulders above the place we chose, but we had to do that because of cost. He was here for a respite stay for about 5 weeks and he actually liked a lot of things about it but it was just more than we could afford for full time. It felt like he was noticed there. It was calm, more like an elderly holiday inn. It's different kind of depressing in some ways.

They were lovely. We chose another location mostly because it was closer to my mother, my aunts sister. It seemed a little large, like someone could get lost in the mix. It was nice and clean but the location was out main reason for choosing the other place.

Sunrise of Bonita was close to where my mother used to live. It was within our budget and had immediate availability. It is not a cookie cutter senior community, does not have the typical hospital setting to it and is really more home like. Although the furnishings are not antique they spent the time to make them look that way, which really shows how much they really are trying.

Visited on FRI 14JUN. VERY FRIENDLY. Room layouts are not what we are looking for. Setup as studio unit with no kitchen or room definitions.

The facility is beautiful and the staff is friendly and helpful. The concierge is very helpful and can answer any questions. There are a variety of activities to choose from including movies. One area that could be improved is the food. It sometimes comes undercooked or overcooked and offer too many Mexican dishes.

Food was terrible when I was there. Caregivers are poorly paid as well as the servers in the dining room.

This is a beautiful 1.5 yr old bldg. As the old adage goes - Don't judge this book by its shiny new cover. Lots of kinks to work out. Administrative staff turnover is one of the issues.

overall we are adjusting well, and it IS a big adjustment! As truly independent residents we are in the minority, there are few truly independent with no mobility issues or special care needs. There seems to be a sales/ marketing focus on attracting more independent living residents. So activities are mostly focused on Assisted Living and/or Memory Care residents. That doesn't really bother us. The facility is nice but in need of some updates - Ivy bought [community removed] some time ago and renovation is planned to begin soon, in the unoccupied units. Staff are friendly, eager to assist and generally helpful; sometimes seem a bit understaffed in the dining rooms. Food is OK, not great but has been improving lately. We have a large, comfortable apartment, 2 BR, 2 baths, but it needs some updates, e.g. replace Formica counter tops, mini blinds, update appliances...

We just did a brief tour of the facility but the prices were higher than what my mom can afford. She would be in the assisted living portion and needs a lot of assistance getting in/out of her wheelchair to the sofa, shower, toilet. This, of course, means she pays more for her level of assistance and we expected that. But their base cost was also higher than she can afford.

The room size and layout is perfect. The staff is very nice. The facility and room are kept clean. They need more/different activities. There has also been a lot of staff turnover so we have had to bring things to their attention and that's been a bit frustrating.

The tour and meal were comparable to other facilities. It is a small community, therefore limiting the number of IC and AC units available. We did not get to see ant 2BR AC unit. As for IC units, there is no private garage to protect a vehicle from hail, ice and heavy snow. We have one more facility to visit before we can narrow the search.

I like the setting of the facility. Also they are good about scheduling the transport for her doctors appts Management is very nice, but the quality of care can be inconsistent depending on the caregiver. Some caregivers are very caring, attentive, and communicate well with residents, while others could benefit from more consistency and training when providing hands-on care. The food is also hit and miss. Overall, there are some very caring staff members, but greater consistency in the level of care would improve the experience.

I was working with one person when they had to go out of town. When they left, things fell through the cracks. I have not been able to move my person into the facility. Hence the 3 overall

Assisted living staff is variable with competence. Some are excellent but a few are not as experienced. Wait times can be longer than advertised (15 minutes) when they are short staff or busy. Sales staff very responsive but administrative staff not. Requests rarely responded to in a timely manner and mostly require in person complaining. For medical issues, regulations make changes in the routine more complicated (orders need to be faxed for anything outside their scope of care). Excellent variety of activities. Food is good, cleanliness good. Apartment size varies with what is rented and is serviced once a week. Facility is expensive as it is large and offers a lot of activities and amenities. However staffing is an issue and the care administrators are rarely easily available to make adjustments in the level of care costs (no ongoing re-evaluations). I would say my number one complaint is that once a contract is signed, be mindful that their administration will not be active in keeping in touch with family members. Family members will need to remain diligent to see if the resident's needs are met.

There are some communication problems between staff and administrators. It has not been an easy transition for my mother and they don't really know how to handle her condition which is very frustrating at times. They are trying to figure it out but this has been very, very expensive and my mother is pretty unhappy there most of the time.

If your loved one needs a lot of one-on-one care or special attention this probably isn't the place for you. A lot of newer care givers with less experience. Some are amazing just not enough of them with enough experience yet
