lots to do (mom probably wouldn't participate). great looking food menu. big facility. mom might feel overwhelmed and get lost a lot. good transportation options. chance to meet and make lots of friends.

The facility is beautiful and well maintained. The staff were friendly, the caregivers could have been more sociable but that could be my sister's situation-unable to speak due to a stroke. My sister was was in no shape to participate in activities but they did have a lot of them. The dining room was beautiful with a nice view of outside. The food, however, was way too fancy for our liking. Who eats maple glazed duck breast? The price was within range of what we paid at a prior facility.

Not only did me and other relatives talk, but we've also talked to hospice and healthcare workers that come into Oakmont. It's a pretty good place; it has issues, but then as the healthcare workers say, "We've seen a lot of facilities and this place is okay, it's nice." It's pricey and it does have its issues, but the staff and management are addressing those issues and trying to correct them, which I like a lot.

The care in the mornings is good, but at night it's bad. It's been getting better now that we have a New Director, [name removed]. When they hire temps, it' bad. I don't think they have gone through a training period. I bought thicker Depends for my husband to wear at nighttime, but the temps don't know to use them so he ends up soiling himself. The regular staff are good, but the temps are not. The meals can vary - one night they were serving waffles with bacon, but I talked to someone about it and lately it's been good. There's always a vegetable and it's getting better. They have activities like volleyball, but they could have more. On the other hand, I also know that most people here have mental incapability so maybe they don't want to overstimulate them. I'm here all the time, everyday. I feed my husband his breakfast and lunch, then I come back and feed him his dinner. I took care of him for 10 years and it's a lot of work, so the value for the cost is good. For the room alone, the staff, the people, and the meals - I think the costs are okay. The most negative thing is - I don't think they should hire temps. When you hire a temp it's through an agency, you have to pay the agency a fee and then the agency pays the temp from that fee. So in that case, they should hire someone and keep them. I don't understand why they don't skip the agency and just hire directly. I've seen many temps come and they don't do anything. You will ask why they haven't changed that person, and they should say, "Oh that person didn't want it". Since [name removed] is here, the place has gotten really clean. The laundry room holds a big bin of soiled diapers and trash. It had a smell, but now its very clean and they even keep the door open. Since [name removed] has been here, there's been a lot of improvements.

The Oakmont of Simi Valley is a very clean and nice community, but sometimes the friendliness of the staff members can really vary depending on who it is you are talking with. Overall the care services are pretty good. Our loved one gets excited about the meals and dining but for what we are paying some of the meals we have had ourselves have been disappointing. We would say the meals are adequate. They do have plenty of activities going on for the residents who want to participate.

This community was okay but it did not compare with another community that I was looking at. The tour was great and they were able to answer all of my questions.

Since this is our first experience, we do not have anything to compare it to. My loved one has now settled in and formed some friendships and it is looking quite improved. The apartment sizes are great. The food is institutional and could use some improvement. We would recommend the facility overall.

We chose Oakmont of Orange at the time because we liked the layout of the building itself and what it offered. The communication was not very good, the staff did not talk to each other so there were issues there. Once they got to memory care once they got to know them it was great and they were good with trying to get them to participate in activities. If you are in your room and a fall risk it is not a good place to be, if you are mobile it is an excellent facility. The lower ratings would have been higher except for the communication, that was the whole reason there were lower scores.

The staff were great very friendly. The front office was beautiful and smelled great but when you got to the living quarters, the odor was unpleasant. The caregivers were wonderful but seemed understaffed. The food was absolutely horrible and it was disgusting We chose this community for the location and the friendliness of the staff. There were so many residents there and not enough supervision . It was completely chaotic. The families need to visit frequently to advocate for proper care. The grounds were beautiful and the rooms were big and spacious.

I toured Sunrise, and the director was super nice and really honest. I really appreciated that the director was very truthful with us when he said he felt the level of care there was too high for my mother. She did not need the advanced level of care they had there yet, so he advised he wasn’t sure it would be a good fit.

A wonderful place for my mom and dad who are both 92. My dad is blind and the price of personal care keeps escalating as his needs increase. I wish I could keep them both there for the rest of their lives, but at $7,500 a month which could soon get up to $8,300 a month due to special needs my parent's nest egg is disappearing and will soon be gone.

The staff here gave me a very good tour of their community and they answered all my question plus they even did a great follow-up. This community has a very nice setting, its clean and they were really nice, I just did not feel that this would be the best fit for my mom at this time.

I had recently taken a tour of this community for my loved one and I was not that impressed with everything that I had seen. I drove through this neighborhood and that was the first disappointment in my opinion. The grounds where not kept and it just looked messy. I decided to go on with my search that had a cleaner property.
