The transition has been rocky, but they are nice and caring.

They are doing a good job. There are some things that aren't quite what I hoped. They aren't as well staffed as I had expected or hoped. They got hit with the flu and they are just starting to come out it. But there were new people all the time, and that was frustrating, they didn't know where the notes were. They were going through transition with a new manager, but they are working on it. I like the staff they are caring and well intentioned. In general I think they are very nice and caring people. The cleaning and the laundry has had some issues. They keep the general facilities clean, but there have been a few issues with the private areas. The food is really good, and I like them, we have just had a little bit of a rocky start through this transition.

It's very clean, and the staff is friendly.

It's very clean, and the staff is friendly. They are not really up on the issues of service animals, and what all the rules are. It can take a long time for someone to respond to a call button. It's taking a long time to get things done, there are some miscommunications from time to time. She is starting to get involved in things, but we are waiting still for her motorized wheelchair so that she can get around without help. They could be a little more organized, and systematic. The food is very good, and the waitstaff is very good.

This was very expensive.

This was very nice and very expensive. The base rate was a couple of thousand more than the place I chose. The rooms are smaller here too. The parking wasn't very good, you either had to find metered parking on the street or pay $12 at the lot next door .

Very expensive

They seemed to be very expensive, for the same care I can get elsewhere. This was about $3000 more a month. The other place even has a better ratio caregiver to resident. They were the second most expensive we saw. Even just the facilities themselves were nicer at the less expensive place.

Not perfect, but very good.

My Dad has been at Sunrise on the Memory Care floor almost two months now. Obviously, a difficult decision to move him there as we had 24/7 caregivers for him at home. We felt he would receive good care and better stimulation at Sunrise. The staff is very, very friendly and I am very pleased with the level of stimulation he receives there, including going on outings up to two times per week. We still have a private caregiver with Dad from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. We have noticed that when the private caregiver is not there, Dad is not receiving the kind of care and attention we were hoping for. We understand his needs cannot be met exactly at the moment he needs them met, however, there have been mornings that he has soaked the bed. My concern is that he isn't checked on often enough during the night. They only have two full time staff for the overnight hours. I appreciate how difficult it is to manage a population of patients suffering from various forms of dementia and given that understanding, I feel Sunrise is doing a very good job.

Overall Atria Bayside Landing is good place for senior's to have a small community that they could enjoy. It's been over month since my dad went there to live. His social skills have change a lot, very out going, made more friends and he likes living there. Everyone is very attentive to each resident that lives there, making sure they are well taken care of during day or night.

The Trials and Tribulations of Starting Over

My sister's recent move necessitated relocating my ninety five year old mother from northern California to southern California. Prior to the relocation twenty-six facilities were reviewed and toured to find the most appropriate match of services provided to my mother's specific care requirements. Yes, at her age declining mental and physical capabilities were both important factors in choosing this facility. The unique aspect of Sunrise at Fullerton, that distinguished it from the other twenty-five facilities, is its Terrace Club community. This community provides an intermediate level of care between assisted living and locked down memory care units. For individuals with memory issues, but, not at a safety level of concern (i.e. wandering or other anti social behavioral issues); Terrace Club provides the necessary structured environment for mental stimulation and social interaction. The greater care giver to resident ratio also diminishes anxiety over the physical safety of your loved one. Is it perfect? No. As can be expected minor issues always arise that require resolution. The staff, however, is friendly, attentive and willing to make that extra effort to resolve any issues that pop up. I am satisfied that the correct decision was made in moving mom to Sunrise.

Nice Coutnry Feel

They have it set up like little cottages. It's not one big huge institutional place. They all have wrap around porches and rocking chairs. It has a very country feel to it which my grandmother liked but she really like the food at another place. She used to be an institutional chef so she's really picky about the food.

Bigger Community

This was the only other place in Salinas that I would consider. It's not so much what I liked about but what I didn't like about it. Villa Serra is really big. My mom has had a stroke so sometimes talking is difficult and I was worried that with that many people she might not want to be out amongst them so much, even though she is very social. My first impression wasn't great because you open the doors and you walk in and there are 15 people in wheelchairs all crowded around the front door. The carpet was kind of funky and the hallway was really dark. I brought this up with the woman who was giving me a tour and she said they were just starting to do some remodeling with painting and new carpet. I haven't been back so I'm not sure how that turned out.

Great Attitude

My aunt has been there for 6 weeks and we got off to a little bit of a rocky start. They've had almost a complete personnel turnover and so they are, in my opinion, having a little bit of trouble getting organized. The facility it's self is lovely and everybody seem to be very nice and caring. I would say, right now, they're in transition and so are we so I'm a little uncertain about how things are done. I think part of it is that I need to learn their system better and part of it may be that they're still trying to discern who is in charge and who does what. My aunt has a need for insulin injection everyday and it's very difficult to find a place that can do that - Sunrise can. Everyone seems very well intended, I'm just not certain they have their new staff up and running. They're always very willing to listen to you or come to your aid. I need to learn their system a little bit better and I think they are still learning also. The attitude of the people is very caring so I'm hoping we can get the other little things ironed out.

Palatable

It's clean and they make a huge effort to make it cheery with big greetings. It not luxurious or anything but overall they are head and shoulders above the place we chose, but we had to do that because of cost. He was here for a respite stay for about 5 weeks and he actually liked a lot of things about it but it was just more than we could afford for full time. It felt like he was noticed there. It was calm, more like an elderly holiday inn. It's different kind of depressing in some ways.

Nice and clean but a little big

They were lovely. We chose another location mostly because it was closer to my mother, my aunts sister. It seemed a little large, like someone could get lost in the mix. It was nice and clean but the location was out main reason for choosing the other place.

Antique looking furnisher

Sunrise of Bonita was close to where my mother used to live. It was within our budget and had immediate availability. It is not a cookie cutter senior community, does not have the typical hospital setting to it and is really more home like. Although the furnishings are not antique they spent the time to make them look that way, which really shows how much they really are trying.

Visited on FRI 14JUN. VERY FRIENDLY. Room layouts are not what we are looking for. Setup as studio unit with no kitchen or room definitions.

My feedback on Ivy Park

Overall Ivy Park is nice with some great amenities. The facilities are quite nice and offer some nice events. While they do offer a solid facility and related services, it was not as great as they made it seem it would be. My father had his issues and was difficult to deal with at times, their description of what they offered and what they delivered didn’t match. I would recommend Ivy Park for anyone who does not need too much attention just some assistance.

Ivy Park at San Juan

Activities offered are not that great, restrictive and controlling, environment, nickel, and diming you to pay for every thing extra, so many extra costs food is mediocre, somewhat boring. Help staff is very nice and friendly. good environment for those more cognitively impaired because it small and easy to navigate.

Things to know and ask when looking at Memory Care centers

In regards to memory care, I would only consider it if your family member has very low onset dementia. They do not want to care for anyone that needs to have any extra attention and we are paying over $[removed]K a month. They have required us to pay for a 1:1 caregiver.

Room for improvement

The staff is friendly, but not always helpful. They need to work on their response time to alerts. It took months to accommodate to my mother's dietary needs. The cleaning staff skipped my mom's room for months because they said she was allergic to cats. The staff changes VERY VERY frequently. We were informed that there was a podiatrist, but when my mom moved in there wasn't one.
