I don't understand them

Right now, I'm not understanding Sterling House. My mother tried to get off the back porch twice in one day and she didn't get off but we were told that we have to have 24hr supervision so we had to have family take off of work to sit with her. We hired somebody on Sunday and since then she had gotten out and now they're not saying she needs the supervision anymore. I don' know what's going on. The guy that's there for managing it is new - he's young. Most people there are in wheelchairs. There are only 3 of them out there that are mobile. My mom is more with the dementia and she can get agitated so it's kind of like a learning experience.

My husband had been there since April...

My husband had been there since April. I really like that the director will get back to you. She's very good at connecting with people so that's a positive. There's been a lot of changes with a decrease in staff and a decrease in activities. Especially on the weekends, there's nothing going on and that's a big problem. The staff morale is really going down. They hired more executives and are getting rid of the staff that actually does the work which I don't like. I've addressed this with the director and the marketing manager and they've assured me that they're making things better so we'll see. I'm going to bide my time and wait a little bit longer. They were good at moving him into a new area that he can have a little more freedom because there were some issues with other patients that were verbally abusive to him.

Nice staff members stretched thin

The building itself is somewhat old but well maintained. The common rooms are clean, with lots of comfortable pieces of furniture, TVs for the residents to watch, even some bookshelves in certain areas. There does not seem to be enough staff members working there though. I have been there many times visiting my mother, only to find that there are *no* staff members currently in the resident area, they are instead in some office/kitchen/whatever, and will only come out running if a door alarm goes off indicating that a resident is trying to get outside. As for activities, I have been visiting my mother several times a week for over six months, and only *once* have I showed up to find my mother engaged in some sort of group activity; all the other times, my mom is just sitting in a common area watching TV or looking out the window. I was also told when first choosing a place for my mom that Artisan would take the residents on "field trips" to places like Olbrich botanical gardens. I have never seen that happen. Finally, communication seems to be lacking. I have heard one thing from the head nurse, only to hear a different thing from one of the actual caregivers for my Mom. Evening staff doesn't seem to communicate well with daytime staff. tl,dr; Nice facility and staff, but they are stretched thin and don't seem to communicate well.

When I went there it was a bunch of very much older people. They were very regimented. You had to be at breakfast at 8, lunch at 11:30, and dinner at five or you wouldn't eat. The building was older. Everyone who walked me around and showed me around was super, super friendly. It was just that the people were just sitting in the room waiting to die.

My experience

Location is good. Size is nice. Small so easy to get around. However, not many clients so very few activities and programming to stimulate residents. Staff is also limited. Name on door wasn't even present until family put it there.

Not recommended

I was previously a resident at the Savannah Grand of Sarasota and my experience at this facility was poor. Ultimately, I ended up choosing to move to a different place. Staffing was a big problem here, the facility was short staffed. Another problem was poor management. Also, the food was not good. I would not recommend Savannah Grand of Sarasota to others.

It was a very old facility. The staff was nice. It seemed more of a nursing home atmosphere, opposed to assisted living.

We are having issues with the staff right now, they are several understaffed which we understand but we have to beg and plead to get our loved ones clothes changed, laundry washed and keep on them about bathing/showering. The food is terrible and house keeping needs a lot of improvement. We are just extremely upset

I was not happy with Savannah Court of Orange City. They were not in our consideration at all. The building was in poor condition. And what they were asking for what they were offering was not congruent.

my experience was stressful and sad.

Find out who the director there and what their history is. Go see how the community looks and see if they made improvements because there were issues with the building. Some of the staff have been there for a long time. I would recommend this community to others. This community may have changed so check for yourself.

Our experience

I would want others to know we have not had a good experience here. Their communication has not been good at all with families. They have not had any cases of covid inside the facility which is good, but overall, due to our experience I would not recommend.

Don't Move Here

I would not recommend Savannah Grand. They were suppose to help get my mom to activities and meals and they did not. The room was too small to get around in a wheelchair, they had to move everything to one side. The food was terrible.

I was not impressed with my tour of this community. One thing I noticed there was a women walking around with two black eyes, that was concerning. The cleanliness of the community could had been better. I did not feel this was the community for my mother, and her needs.

I did not like the Prairie Ridge Assisted Living at all. When we arrived for our tour, the lady that took us around smelled like cigarette smoke and I was not very fond of that. The place was dirty and didn't seem to be well maintained. During my tour I did not see any residents, they were all in their rooms which were a bad sign to me. Overall not what we were looking for.

I got to take a tour of this property and did not like it at all. From the time I walked in the place smelled really bad of urine. It was also dingy and dark. When I went into the dining area I felt like I was in the backwoods with the little tables that they had. It really felt like an institution. The place could use another coat of paint because the old paint is chipping everywhere. The place just looked and smelled horrible.

Review of Savannah Grand of Sarasota - Sarasota, FL

My 88 year old blind disabled Mother was given a formal eviction notice fall 2015 ([Removed]) the reason given was that they needed the money so they were raising her rent by 800.00 per month. Mother had picked this facility because they accepted the Community Diversion program which she may need someday. She had meet the 3 yrs. qualification plus met the financial criteria.(after they raised her rent she would need the program to help pay her rent. They( current administer) stated that they were no longer honoring mother s current residential contract also were no longer accepting any Medicaid funds. Mother paid her final months rent( 2 500) and I promptly found a new assisted living facility which has a locked in her rate for life. Thank God! They also know how to treat the elderly. Meanwhile [Removed] along with a collection agency has been sending Mother I demands for 4 500.00 cleaning fees etc. At first I thought it was a joke but they have persisted. Mother s only income is Social Security disability. She is physically disabled but in all other ways of sound mind mangers her own life. Please do what you can to help this business treat mother other seniors honestly fairly. Unfortunately currently they appear to be taking advantage of our elderly and in this case my mother.
