A Place for Mom has scored New Perspective Senior Living with 8.1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 327 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, New Perspective Senior Living has 1,204 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 4.1 out of 5.
They cannot do high level patient care here. The staff is not well supervised and takes a lot of breaks. They have a pricing point system that is difficult to understand. So the cost can vary month by month on the bill rapidly if the health of the elderly person goes down . So I would not recommend this facility unless your loved one is ambulatory and can live independently with a minimal amount of supervision. Keystone advertises like they can do all level of patients but the truth is they mostly just do the same routine for all of them and I was never sure mom was getting the care we were paying for. Lots of times I just found Mom lying alone in the room, her diaper wet and had to ring the buzzer for about 30 minutes before anyone came to help us. We were paying 7000 per month so you think they could do better!!

Westlake Woods used to be a fine assisted living community in Erie. Since it was sold, the new management has been a disaster. Administrators come and go quicker than the untrained staff. Majority of the staff can be seen sitting outside on their phones. Food is fine as long as you can feed yourself. If you need assistance, you are out of luck. Be sure to monitor your loved ones weight because resident's that need help eating, do not receive the help they need. They are more than happy to accept patient's who need more care than the facility is equipped to handle, charge families extra for that care but then do not provide. Patient apartments are dirty, ants have been found in beds and the place smells of urine. [name removed] would be ashamed. And they have no problem kicking you to the curb when you run out of money leaving to find a facility that is accepting of medicaid.

Our father lived at Aberdeen for 2.7 years. The quality of the food and services declined greatly in the time he was there. There were times we were not called when dad fell and he was taken directly to the hospital. Toward the end of his time there, he struggled with dementia and falls. Thankfully we had a camera in his room so we were able to monitor him. Several times during the last week he lived there, dad was about to or had indeed fallen. When calls were made to Aberdeen to ask for help, no one answered and calls went to voicemail and were not returned. (Times of these phone calls were 5 PM, 6 PM, 6 AM) Thankfully we had decided upon Hospice for our dad for the last month of his life. It was the 24/7 Hospice phone line that we called to finally go and help our dad who had fallen as Aberdeen staff did not answer. We do not want any other family to experience what we did with this facility toward the end of our dad's time there.

Staff was horrible, from executive down to aids. Aids yelled at my mother-in-law, did not approach her with understanding or compassion, they gave orders instead of suggestions. There was no activities for the first 2 weeks as they were not an activities director. Once one started, the activities were pathetic, and no one attended them. Dining was depressing. Not great food options and everyone had their own tables and people they like to sit with. Very uninviting and non-inclusive. Overall horrible experience.

Strongly advise against using Aberdeen. The management truly does not care about the residents or families. They make countries billing errors and have been overcharging every single resident due to deliberately miscalculated care costs. They make significant medication mistakes then try to hide the evidence. It's truly awful.

Aberdeen has incredibly unprofessional staff who do not care about the residents. They did a terrible job of caring for my dad, especially in his dying days. They refused to communicate with my family entirely after the passing of my parents and claimed it was because they didn't have to talk to me since my parents were dead. Horrifying.

We had a terrible experience with my mom at Aberdeen. They made multiple mistakes with medication administration and billing, and consistently refused to address any mistakes and desperately tried to blame anybody else. We had to contact the ombudsman's office, who suggested we file a report with the health department regarding their dangerous mistakes. After my mom passed away, I made 13 attempts to contact the director and regional VP regarding a few concerns in my mom's last week, and they ignored every single contact attempt. Only after I escalated it to the owner of the company, did the VP finally call me - but instead of addressing my concerns, she claimed that they no longer had to communicate with me since my mom had died. I was absolutely horrified.

Mom had COPD & Dementia - weighed 145 lbs on admission. Also had hospice - SW commons left her in bed most days. Stacked meals on top of one another. Left in recliner for 18 hours - with bed sores - Bed sores in assisted living! Food is horrible. Understaffed - No Nurse at night and aides are just caregivers with little training. They take residents that need full care but don't increase staff to accommodate so others suffer. She fell and broke hip - several more falls - broken nose - hit head several times. We had cameras in room - can't imagine the care people received without cameras! She ended up falling and breaking both hips, ribs and head contusion. Got her into inpatient hospice and she lived 6 days. Weighed 75 lbs. We wanted to move her but hospice suggested we not do that due to her confusion and lack of care in other places. Staff was kind and loved our mom - they did they best they could - this is administrative problem. It is not the staffs fault. I am a nurse.

Out of pocket is $[fee removed]. This place is absolutely horrible! The staff is underpaid, leading to low-quality employees who are often on their phones rather than assisting the residents. The food is appalling—on New Year’s Eve, they served dried-out bratwurst with chips, and some residents couldn’t even keep their food down. The cranberry juice is watered down, and there’s no housekeeping. Residents' clothes and sheets are never washed, and the overall cleanliness is nonexistent. Without notifying me, they moved my mom to memory care, and when they did, they didn’t even bother to properly set up her apartment. The bed frame was too big, and there were no locks for safety. My mom ended up sitting on a wooden chair for several nights, which permanently affected her physical health. She was so confused by the clutter in her apartment that she ended up using a kitchen drawer as a bathroom because the actual bathroom was blocked.

I've lived the "New Perspectives" experience for a few years. If you have health concerns such as mobility- head in the opposite direction! If you require a higher level of care, I can guarantee you will not get it here. I had a mother who died here in the first floor Community Based Residential Facility (CBRF). I moved in to ASSIST with Mom's care and would often be the only one awake during 3rd shift to care for her! I am NOT a paid caregiver - just a caring daughter. I have a friend in Memory Care who is forgotten when it comes to entertainment brought to the bldg - unless staff is reminded to include her. I know several people in assisted living who have used their call buttons to no avail. Many have waited hours for help with toileting, showering, or receiving their medication in a timely manner. However, the other side of the coin is independent living. Mom died over 1 year ago and I am still here paying high rent, but appreciating the privacy of my "she shed studio."

If you can avoid this place please do it's a nice building but in the memory care unit they never cleaned when my dad had accidents I've sat in his pee cause his mattress was soaked cause they didn't know how to put a mattress pad on the bed and his floor has been wet for a week before they shampooed it and they would not help him eat he could not see so someone needed to feed him I had to go there everyday for awhile just to feed him myself the workers are from Africa and they pay them less so they never want to work they don't realize they are putting people's lives at risk for that and I had found him fallen in the shower yelling for help one time I went there who knows how long he was laying there and then they made me take him to the ER when I talked to the head nurse about his accidents on the floor her solution was to wear suspenders but the staff never put them on him and she just kept telling us to report it to try to make things better but it never changed and we have had to take him out in other people's coat and shoes cause everytime I went there someone else had his things it's just a very disorganized place and the workers like to just sit on their phones

If I could give them a negative number I would. My mom passed away last October at new perspective. Their quality of care was awful. We paid for daily check ups to make sure she went to breakfast lunch and dinner. My mom wore adult depends and they were to empty her garbage every day, they did not enter her bathroom stunk of urine. They just didn't care for her very well. My sisters and I would go there. Take her to activities. Have lunch dinner whatever with her and nobody had been to see her all day. I started going there daily just to empty her . I wouldn't put my, worst enemy in that place. Right before my mother passed she pulled the cord for help. It was two hours before someone got to her and by that time she was gone.

When considering Woodland Terrace I would strongly suggest you read the "current reviews" online, go to the Indiana Department of Health Long term Care website to read complaints filed, go to Glass Door to read the reviews written by previous employees and speak with the current residents in Memory Care, Assistant Living or Independent Living. Our experience was not one I would want you to experience. Do a walk through without the Market Manager and speak with any resident you come in contact with on their satisfaction / happiness with this facility. Look at their Facebook page to see when the last posting was and how active are the residents. Ask how many RN's, LPN's, QMA's(qualified medication aids) activities staff are on each shift. Base your decision not on what the facility was like when it opened but, in the last two years. Our experience has opened our eyes to elder care and many things we would like to not remember. We will not refer to Woodland Terrace of Carmel.

They didn't check on my mom enough. She developed a huge, deep bed sore that became septic, so she had to go to the hospital where they surgically cleaned it. It took months to heal and caused repeat infections. Her condition also deteriorated significantly because we had an issue refilling her prescription with the pharmacy. Without that medicine, she was barely able to eat or talk. A readily available, cheap substitute for her medicine was available, but their NP did not put her on it, either because she did not know the alternative existed, or because they didn't check on my mom enough to get to know her and realize how much she deteriorated. She was barely eating, and the high school student in charge of feeding her didn't really notice or say anything, because she just listened to her headphones the whole time she was with my mom and didn't pay attention. After my mom was in the hospital for a while, Sunrise said they would not take her back because her condition was too severe for them to care for. (They contributed to her downfall though). Most of the actual care is provided by high school or college age kids who just sit on their phones all day. Is this a good place for an independent old person, who sometimes needs a little assistance, to have an apartment and a community? Yes. Is it a good place for someone who needs a lot of help? Absolutely not.

Please don't entrust your loved one to this horrible place they claim is an Assisted Living facility. They DO NOT and WILL NOT assist. Your family member will buzz for help and will be left to wait and wait. . (sometimes the staff will never show up). My mother was one of only 3 residents there that didn't have dementia, (we specifically asked about amount of residents w/ dementia beforehand and they lied to us...one of the many lies they told...another lie was their response time to residents call button). So my mother could tell us of the reality of living at Aberdeen Crossings. She would be left sitting in the dining room waving for assistance back to her room and staff would make eye contact and ignore her or talk snotty to her and then make her sit and wait more. This is not just one occasion, this was ongoing for 3 months. I spent every week on the phone relating this to the director, [name removed] who just gaslit us. My mother passed due to a fall due to lack of assistance

My Moms room was not clean when I got there. I stayed 5 days and it still wasn't cleaned. I ended up cleaning her room the night before I left. I ask then look for a vacuum cleaner myself. SW only had one young girl cleaning the whole second floor. My Moms room was to get cleaned once a week (Tuesday's)and that was not happening. I felt sorry for this young girl because they were making her clean each room plus she was responsible for washing sheets and towels for that room. Not all the washing machines were working. She was very apologetic but she couldn't get to the number of rooms she was expected to clean each day. I do NOT recommend Salida Woods to anyone.

They have a great sales pitch, but no follow through. Extremely poor staffing which leads to very poor care. My mother was seriously neglected and we constantly were having meetings with administrators and staff with no results. One administrator actually told us if it was their mother they would remove her. (Which we did, but unfortunately due to availability was not soon enough).

If we could give the overall a experience a -10 we would. Improvements - Actually give a damn about the health and care of their residents. Don't oversell your ability to care just to get a warm body in your facility. Better handling of falls at the hands of caregivers. Better response. Imperative X-rays etc. My aunt lived with an undiagnosed and brushed off broken FEMUR for several weeks which lead to terrible bedsores which put her in the hospital and ultimately resulted in her death. I wouldn't put my worst enemy in there. They have a beautiful facility and great activities but if you are not ambulatory/in a wheelchair and need care...do NOT move in.
