New Perspective Senior Living

My parent is sharp for their age and has shared concerns about the Minnetonka New Perspective staff not responding at all or for hours to pendants, slowness with meal service, or kitchen staff just not showing up at all on weekends to prepare breakfast and having to frequently remind staff to assist with showers. The on-site manager & corporate operations director have been dismissive, blaming residents for incorrectly using or not knowing how to use the pendants or for coming to the dining room before scheduled mealtimes. The maintenance man (God bless him!) has been called in unexpectedly to cook and serve meals on the weekend. But it has resulted in residents waiting a very long time to place meal orders and get served. Even when kitchen staff and servers are present, service is slow and appears disorganized. The food quality is hit or miss. Multiple attempts to reach the on-site manager about issues usually go unacknowledged and unresolved. They don’t seem to be getting forwarded.

My mother moved into the Assisted Living at New Perspective Highland Park and lived there for a few months before needing to move into Memory Care. Assisted living at New Perspective seems great - lots of interaction with other residents, a choice of good quality food, activities that are inclusive. That all changed in the Memory Care. No longer could she choose her meals but had to eat what was given her and it was often cold. I spoke to the director on several occasions about the food and was promised she would look into it. Nothing changed. I asked that something be done to the hinges on her door so it would close behind her because other residents were walking right into her apartment. She made a change which broke the trim around the door. Four months later that had not been repaired nor had the hinges been changed. My mother's name was never installed outside her door like other apartments. While some of the caregivers are excellent, there is a lack of respect and dignity in the Memory Care at New Perspective. I would not recommend this facility to anyone.

Cleanliness: for the building 4. For memory care unit rooms 1. Care services and staff: range from 1-5. At first New Perspective was a great place for my parents, but it has increasingly declined. I have had numerous contact with staff about medication errors, lack of follow-through, not enough staffing, and my mom being ignored in the memory care unit, causing her health to decline. I wish I could have more positive things to say, but the decline is evident. I would not recommend this place to others anymore. My parents are looking to relocate somewhere else ASAP. New Perspectives has gotten bigger and pay direct care staff and cleaning staff very low wages, which results in continuous shortages.

Under new ownership this facility is NOT a place you would want your loved one to stay. 3 separate time the exterior doors were left OPEN with no one at the front desk. I have advised management that if it happens again I will call local police for a premises report. Management is rudderless and we employees changing like normal people change their socks. Now the social activities person just left and assisted patrons have no one to help. Keep this place in your real view mirrors. Under the prior ownership living here was enjoyable now it’s a challenge. While no place might be perfect this facility has no leadership. It’s no wonder they can’t come close to filling its empty rooms. Food quality is not good but it has nothing to do with the chef. He tried to do what’s right. My mother was here for years and now my mother in law but that was because of prior ownership. There are other facilities close by that are much better for your loved one. Met with mgmt and it was deaf ears.

I would tell others that if their loved one does not need any care, then this is a nice place. The executive director is not straightforward or responsive. Very defensive when asked questions. Like I said, the care isn't consistent or good. If someone needs meals and a nice place to live, it's fine. If they need anything more, I do not recommend

It's a beautiful facility with a warm concierge. But the facility is understaffed in all areas. They rely upon caregivers without any training after high school. Caregivers who administer medications are often rude and abrupt to the residents. It is common for medication to be missed or forgotten. And upon follow-up, the medication administrators are rude. The registered nurses are very good but appear overwhelmed.

I have seen better. They do not service the clients, you have to fen for yourself. No activities, no excercising. No movie night, boring place. Carpet needs cleaning. They need more people. A very disorganized place

The food was served cold. The care was substandard. I would not recommend the community to anyone. Anytime there was an issue it had to to the Executive Director, and nothing would change even though the Director promised. In fact sometimes it would get worse.

I would tell others when they are seeking a place, make sure that the employees are trained and know what they are doing. My loved one is not getting good care and when you complain it seems to get worse. I would not recommend to other families who are looking.

When we toured this facility it was a mess. We showed up and they did not have our tour/information on file. It also smelled like urine when you walked in and residents were just wandering around.

It's not a good place for people with complex needs. Otherwise it seems like a nice community. I wish they had been more open with our family regarding our loved one's condition, letting us know she was deteriorating, rather than waiting for something to happen. During the pandemic, they did do a good job trying to encourage residents to engage with their families, and they would provide a weekly email. That broad level communication was good, it was the more specific communication that was lacking.

The administration was good at getting us into the community. We ended up picking my loved one up early. The staff wasn't kind to the residents.

Our loved ones bathroom was absolutely filthy, there was mold in the toilet. The common area was a little more clean. The staff members were not nice at all. If our loved ones needed help, sometimes it would take a long time for a staff member to come. Our loved one needed help walking and if she wasn't able to get help going bathroom, the staff would just leave her for hours without cleaning her up. The food took a long time to get to the residents and most of the time it was cold.

I was very unhappy with Beachwood Commons and would not recommend it to others. I was not happy with the lack of communication with the staff. They did not return our phone calls and did not answer our questions. They were not on top of any care that was out of the norm. There were a lot of employee changes. We ended up moving out. The aides were very nice and caring, they did not seem to have the training need for the kind of care we were needing.

This facility offers an age in place concept, but independent living residents are just that, independent. The independent living residents receive no help. The first step of assisted living can be purchased at a rate of $1600 or more per month. There are no services available in between at reduced rates. Covid-19 has brought out their true colors. The facility has exceeded and maintained visitor restrictions above and beyond the CDC guidelines for independent seniors. They will not allow a screened and healthy family member with a face covering to enter the facility for minor and quick assistance to an elderly independent resident who is not incapacitated enough to require spending the extra $1600/month fee for baseline services. This base level assisted living is suggested if an inquiry is made to allow help to an independent senior in their facility. They do not care how harmful their draconian rules are, they would prefer to make extra money at the detriment of the resident's financial status. They would not allow an independent senior being picked up by a family member to be taken to the Emergency Room to have assistance getting their belongings together for a hospital stay. They stood by their rules and let a weak, sick elderly woman walk breathless around the facility trying to get help after she was told the family member driving her to the ER was not allowed to help her. An independent resident returning from a hospital stay (non-covid related) in a weakened state, must be dropped off at the front door and left on their own with no assistance to settle back in. When does someone coming home from a hospital stay get treated like that? I would suggest careful analysis before considering this facility for a loved one.

Very heavy politics, it's "my way or the highway." My input was not important to them. The caregivers were good for the most part, the philosophy was they wouldn't involve the residents and put in her room and forget her except for meals. She had no way to call for help or assistance and she would yell out " help me" and then she would be told not to do that. There wasn't a clear, consistent plan to help and direct new residents to acclimate them. It was a memory care but it felt prison like and very institutional.

Overall the facility seems nice and clean the people are friendly the biggest problem I have is they cannot keep their parking lot clean free of ice and snow makes me worried that my mom may fall told him several times and there's still nothing done about it

I like the trips. There is beer and wine in the bar, but I want Scotch too. I don't like that there were no pets allowed when I moved in and now they do allow pets.

The facility is very nice and bright inside. Meeting to inquire about a room for my father was very interesting as the sales pitch I was provided did not meet my expectations after we moved him in. This place seems understaffed at times and the rooms are not kept as clean as they should be. The response time to attend to a resident is sometimes lacking as well.

I am very disappointed in their care for my husband. They are so understaffed, I am afraid to leave some times. They have 2 people for forty residents. We have waited for an hour to get him on the toilet. The girls themselves, are awesome, but they are totally overwhelmed and overworked. They have no management, only interim people. I went there based on some very high recommendations. They have nobody in charge They no longer have a resident doctor checking in. I come in and find urine left standing in the urinal, and I have had to vacuum the floor myself. Some days it's outstanding, depending on who they have for an interim. The menu is nourishing, and pretty good I think, for institutional food. The problem is they have the same people that are helping people to the bathroom, also serving the food. When you walk in it feels like home, and that really influenced me.
