A Place for Mom has scored Morningside Elite Management with 9.2 out of 10 using our proprietary review score based on 256 reviews in the last 2 years. Over all time, Morningside Elite Management has 940 reviews with an average "overall experience" of 4.3 out of 5.
This facility was very costly, there were a lot of "add on" features that were "hard to explain" to us until they had a better assessment of our mom. Huge turnoff was as you walk through the entrance, off to the left was a "smoking room". As a non-smoker, it was awful to have to walk through there. When you were in the immediate common area, that smoke smell permeated the area. A plus about this facility was they have a house dog and a house cat for residents.

It's very clean. The staff is pretty friendly. When we negotiated, we gave them the top amount that we could afford and they said they could meet that, but now we are seeing extra charges. The person who was setting up the financial information didn't disclose the extra charges to us, and then she was let go shortly after we moved in. I feel like there are extra charges that are more than I see as necessary, for instance, with a diabetic care package they don't include finger sticks and testing, that is an extra charge, on top of diabetic care charges. They are attentive and give good care, but they charge for it. They don't have a dietitian, but they try to do what they can. They don't have a lot of fresh fruit. Some of the activities are not as stimulating, for someone a little younger in age. A lot of the staff doesn't speak a lot of English, it can be difficult to communicate at times. They don't seem to have an enclosed porch, all of the residents are in front of the doors, and you walk through all the people, and I don't know how often they check on them. It would be nice if they made an area outside for people to sit so they aren't just right in front of the door. Most of our issues have been administrative. They have been very responsive to anything we have brought up.

It's been a little over a month, since my loved ones moved in. A lot of things have gone wrong, we were promised things that just weren't happening. There were a lot of things, some small, some not, like medication errors, among other things. They said that there would always be someone available to be there for my loved one, that is not the case. A lot of the issues we have had has been addressed, but some have not been resolved yet. We are paying a lot of money, but we have had to have our family there almost constantly. The people are really nice, and they have been trying to work with us. They did an assessment first and I just think they though they could do more than they could, unless your loved one is more independent, this may not be a great fit. I just don't think they have enough staff, legally they have enough, and they just added a couple of more, but I still just don't think it's enough for things to run smoothly and have everyone well looked after.

Expensive for Fredericksburg: Poet's walk is a secure community with two outdoor courtyards and is licensed for 60 residents, all memory care. They have activities 7 days/week, including field trips on Tuesday and Thursdays. She was able to provide quite a bit of information regarding their activities and seemed very passionate about the facility and services they provide. She also noted that because they are a new facility they have been able to be picky when hiring their staff. The cost information : private studio $178/day ($5,340/month) [removed] $18-34/day ($540-1,020) - most patients are $22/day ($660) Community fee - $3,000 (refundable on a prorated basis if stays less than 90 days) reservation fee - $250 (refundable) So, the cost range is $5,880-6,360, with the average residents paying $6,000.

OK community, not overly impressed. The memory care floor is not secured during the day and I did not see many staff in the reception area to prevent elopements. I would be concerned about Mom trying to escape and going unnoticed.

This location was similar to the majority of the larger centers. Lori answered all questions well and if she did not know the answer, she found us someone who did. This place is definitely closer to me, a big plus, only concern I have is finding local physicians. Guess I will have that problem anywhere we go. Morningside is one to consider.

Preferred this Sunrise's location over Paoli b/c my parents could walk right to Target or around the neighborhood (Swedesford Chase). Liked that there is a Paoli doctor some of the residents use and that they use Paoli Hospital (I think; also use CC Hospital). Did NOT like that they cannot administer sliding scale insulin. My father's nurse practitioner said this is a pretty basic skill so to look for places that have skilled nursing as an option for care, esp. given my Dad's diabetes and other medical ailments. Paoli's Sunrise seemed cleaner. In both Sunrises, no fitness centers, but they had classes for the residents. Really liked the director here, and their latest state report was really good. Did not try the food. Concerned there is access to popcorn (and the high fat/high cholesterol kind) all day long. I can see my father's cholesterol sky-rocketing now. LIked that all of their desserts w/ meals are sugar-free. Has Wifi, so my mom can use her computer in her room. I think around 50 residents in all.

We needed to find a place quickly and Sunrise was available and willing to help us with the fast turn around of paperwork. The down side is that they do not have a lot of secure walking area for the dementia patients so this may not be permanent. My dad loves to walk.

The care and administration is where it falls apart. The doctor at the community has absolutely no bedside manners. There is no transparency at all, they would benefit sharing with the families who is in charge or who and in charge of what. When our loved one was at the hospital they did not think to stop the auto-refill of their prescriptions so after they had passed we now have to track down with the pills went and deal with the insurance and it has been a nightmare. They could of temporarily suspended the medication refill while our loved one was away at the hospital. It just seems like there is some deception going on there. The food was terrible and very disappointing - it was weird basic cheap quality that was average at best.

we've made the decision to move my loved one out of Morningside House. they are now in need of memory care, and Morningside does offer it. however, I'm not too happy with their staffing retention and lack of staff. I made several calls and sent several emails (over the course of 3 months) asking for my loved one to be reassessed. they did not respond to nor act on this request until another family member visited the community and sat in the office; practically demanding assistance. there was also a time when my loved one pressed their alert button and no one ever showed up to see what they needed. they could have been in serious trouble, so that is obviously very concerning. I do think that the problems I had were tied into their staffing issues, but it's still not okay.

I think it eroded substantially during Covid. Pre-Covid, I complained about cleanliness, and they seemed to be responsive. But then with Covid I couldn't go in for about a year. So I can't speak on the current conditions. Having moved my loved one out, the new place is much more economical and seems to provide better care. When we moved him out of Morningside House of Laurel, they gave us a big backlog of medications and creams that had never been administered. Most of them had expired, and the total value of the non-administered items was in the thousands. They have really severe nursing problems. During the time he lived there, they had three different executive directors and nurses, and none of them were able to resolve the nursing concerns. Before Covid, it was fine because I could go in every day and monitor things. But during Covid, I was very concerned about the care he was receiving.

We used them for a respite stay, about a year ago. The food was good here, but the staff wasn't as good. They lost her partial plate. I wasn't very happy with them. There were issues after our respite stay, there were some billing issues, that took almost a year to get resolved. I had a hard time getting a hold of someone. They had a change in management, so those issues should be dealt with now, but I didn't have a great experience.

The food leaves a lot to be desired. The dining room manager is surly and has an excuse for everything. It doesn't appear that the resident's ideas are listened to. Good stuff like coconut shrimp. donuts, pastries, etc have all but disappeared from the menu. There used to be someone cleaning the common area and hallways daily, but that has disappeared. Concierges are very friendly. Used to bring snacks to room, now residents have to make their way down to the first floor for them. No way to get coffee or hot tea except at mealtimes. Inquiries about conditions are usually met with disbelief or the assumption that the resident is old and doesn't know what they are talking about. Needs to have surprise visits and for the bigwigs to eat the slop they serve the residents. Things would improve for sure.

Rooms are not cleaned. Laundry is lost. Phones do not get answered. Management changes every few months. Promises are made by management but rarely consistently followed. They display "a place for mom" award prominently in their entrance way that should be revoked. Morningside does not care about their facility or their clients. We need to find a new home for mom.

There has been a complete overhaul of the employees that worked there a few years ago. The care provided to the residents has declined so much, that we're considering pooling a few resident families and see if they'd like to find another place and keep a core group of friends together. They are disgusted as well. The employees that care & work hard are treated nastily but the other workers. I guess they don't want to look bad or lazy We have had FOUR situations with our family member being left to fend for themselves when they are in need of help. Soiled pants took over 30 minutes to change. Told they can dress themself when they are on the Assistance Needed list. There are a couple more but for fear of retaliation against the resident, we will stop here. Do not go there
