Nice place, could use more activities

So far things have gone well with Morningside House at Satyr Hill. It's a nice looking community, and the staff seem friendly and professional. However, my loved one has been having a bit of trouble socially. He says the population is on the older side, and the activities aren't quite what he was hoping for.

So far so good. But advocates always need to closely watch, anywhere.

Don't know yet. Seems fine so far and mom is adjusting. Had to catch some pretty bad prescription med errors within the first week. Mom might not have made it unless family closely monitored that situation. But we did. Family, advocates, loved ones need to do this anywhere. Staff is friendly, things seem good so far. Wish we'd done this quicker. I am so sorry for families that cannot afford these facilities as the toll on caretakers can be horrid.

Needs more offsite activities.

My mom moved in about 2 months ago and is doing very well there. What I liked most about Cedar Hill was the onsite physical therapy that was offered, the way they handled medication distribution at the correct times and amounts. I rated activities a 3 because I was a disappointed in the offsite activities they provided. It would be nice if there was an activity once a week, but there is only a bus that comes twice a month.

Overall very positive, but some inconsistent care

Generally we're very pleased with the care here. Some of the staff are amazing. The activities are great, there's enough to keep everyone busy and active all the time and Ashlee, who takes residents on their trips, is wonderful. The 3rd floor care manager, Karen, is excellent. When she is there everything is ship-shape. However when Karen is not on duty we've noticed inconsistencies with the care managers' cleanliness and care. Small things like dirty gloves and wash rags not being cleaned up immediately or residents being left in their winter coats after returning from a trip. When we address these issues they are corrected right away. I feel like sometimes my loved one is overlooked because they're on the lower end of the care spectrum for the facility.

Would recommend, but certain areas need improvement

I would say that my family's experience with the nursing staff has not been the best. There is a lack of communication among staff members and also a lack of follow-through. But I overall, it's a very nice place

Overall happy, but some improvements could take this place to the next level

Lots of turnover on the medical team (key nursing staff positions too). This lowered my rating as it is a critical function in AL communities. They should also install locking doors that the door person has to buzz people in and out of (at least past a certain hour). This is pretty standard.

Not Bad; Not Great"

Most staff are friendly, helpful, and seem to care, however, There is a HUGE turnover in staff. There's not enough going on to keep the residents busy and occupied. They do play games daily or have an occasional art activity. But if your LO is like my partner and doesn't like to play games, there is nothing else to do other than watch TV.

Review for Morningside House of Blue Bell

[names removed] are terrific. Very caring and responsive. Place is a little smaller than many others and not as intimidating. The administrative part has had too much turnover and needs to tighten up. Also don't promise things in writing that you can't deliver. Such as taking people to Drs appointments and giving the impression that you can provide medical services that you really don't have

What they could improve on is that the administrative staff is completely rude. They were nice at first, then they get a couple months worth of checks and became absolutely rude and disregard any concerns I bring up to them.

Our families experience

The room studio is well located on the first floor. He has a nice view of the gazebo and gardens. They offer some transportation assistance for Dr appointments. The residents are now nice . What they could improve on is the food! It is not appetizing and really isn't nutritious. Very starchy and for almost [fee removed] it should offer healthier options. He employs an aide outside the community and she will walk with him and clean his glasses fill his humidifier and other little things. He has had issues with the community making his bed. They also don't adhere to his medical plan set by his Drs. It is hard to find suitable personnel but that is everywhere! I believe it does meet his needs

Staff mostly friendly and considerate. Communication was a big issue with nursing and caregiver staff. Nursing would discuss care with family but rarely implement what was discussed, so aides never really knew what was expected. The food was very good and we were very appreciative that my mother was allowed to eat in her room. Housekeeping was so short staffed that after about 6 weeks I had to contact department head for bathroom to be cleaned. Activities department seemed friendly and tried to engage residents. Front desk receptionist was not customer friendly. All meds had to be bought through Town center pharmacy so no prescription insurance could be used by any residents.

Disappointed

Honestly not much positive. Thought of moving her but all facilities are same. Short staff lot of temps who don't care. Quality of care is not good anywhere....long fingernails. I don't know how that is even permitted. I wish I could bring her home. The problem is management. On the third director in memory care wing in 1 year and 1/2. Third CEO also. If they don't care then why should staff.

Review for Morningside House of Friendship

The Morningside House that my mother is currently in is accepting residents that need a higher level of care than they are able to provide (my mother is a good example). They raised their overall rates 10% this year, and plan to raise them an additional 10% every year for the foreseeable future., according to the Director. I work hard for my mother while she's there, we provide everything but food and laundry services, and they get paid. Unless a person can walk and do things for themselves, I wouldn't recommend this place.

Our Experience

Overall I feel Morningside is a good community. The response times quoted to us on the tour have not been at all what my dad has experienced. They told us 7-11 minutes from when he pushes the call button. The fastest time he has consistently seen is 15 to 20 minutes, but has often seen 44 min to an hour, 2 hours and sometimes no one came at all. Response times are much worse at night and on weekends. In-house PT provider is a 6 out of ten. They seem to look for reasons not to give my dad PT. He had Covid so was quarantined for 10 days. That's fine, but his PT didn't resume for almost 20 days at which point we complained and it resumed. My dad has some scabs and dry skin on his lower legs. Has had them for years. Then one day that suddenly became a "wound care" issue and his PT was halted for another several weeks. Dad has lost a lot of ground with his ability to walk because he has gotten PT about half of the two months he has been there. On the plus side, MorningSide is very clean and well kept; furnishings and fittings are in good repair and atmosphere is clean/ does not reek of urine. Most of the staff has been friendly but a few have been scratchy/irritable with my dad when he called them. Again worse with night and weekend staff. He does get his meds regularly and onsite pharmacy is very convenient.
