Can Do Better

Can't say I'm impressed with the standard of care at this facility. The food has been bad for years. The only good thing is the recent remodeling that overall looks very clean and modern. Management and the regular staff have a consistent turnover. The employees that do have a good work ethic and truly care about the residents leave, so it's left up to non qualified people to run things. If residents need "assistance" they must pay additional charges ( meals brought to room, transport to dining room, making bed, laundry etc.). Considering the cost to live there, it isn't very accommodating. It's also not set up for those in wheelchairs as every room is designed for people that can walk on their own. It's never been great, but seems to be getting worse. I just finally got tired of keeping my opinion to myself. Once Medicaid starts up it's impossible to find another facility willing to take new people so we're kind of stuck.

Would not recommend

Unfortunately, we did not have a good experience there. We moved mom after only 2 weeks, since the level of care was so bad. The only good part was the room size. But the service was extremely slow when dining in there dining room or when pushing button on necklace. Plus, we needed someone to change moms diaper at night and give her medications at night. They would not come to do what they are getting paid for. So, we moved mom to a 6 bedroom house and the level of care is 10 times better. I would not recommend that place to anyone.

Has steadily gone downhill

My parents have lived here for several years, and while many of the front line staff are very kind and caring, this place (like so many others) has gone steadily downhill. You are promised all kinds of things when you sign on that are never followed through with. You have to ask over and over to have anything fixed, or get proper lighting (no overhead lighting in rooms!)...and it never gets done. The meals are TERRIBLE, and definitely not healthy. Every year they increase the rates significantly, and the quality goes down. It's a clear example of extraction - the highest priority being as much profit as possible while scaling down the quality wherever they can. They are consistently understaffed and have a high turnover rate. We are moving my parents to a different facility soon, and hope for a better experience for the money.

needs improvements

The level of care was terrible. When we moved mom in they said they would change her diaper 3 times a night and give her pain pill to her every 4 hours as the doctor ordered. But they could never do that. Even tough they promised. They make lot of promises to get you in the door, but never keep their promises. Lots of lies!! I would not recommend this place to others.

Nice people, but poor management

I originally chose this facility for its smaller size, as my mom had recently had a serious illness and I thought a larger facility would be overwhelming. Also, I was impressed with the friendliness and longevity of the staff. However, over time, poor business practices, which included unresolved questions with billing, paying for services which my mom did not receive even though she and I talked with multiple personnel, and meal wait times of over an hour on a regular basis have led me to believe this is a mid-managed facility. My mom is leaving on [date removed] and moving elsewhere. I would not recommend The meadows.

We feel like we were sold a bottle of snake oil

We needed to find my parent a memory care facility. We viewed different available rooms and the rest of the facility. We were impressed and decided right then and there to pursue it. The day after move in, was the first negative experience. Finding your parent, who is largely not ambulatory and incontinent lying in bed at noon, still in their pajamas that you dressed them in the night before, in a pool of their own urine is enough to make you angry. Next negative experience...walking in to see their food from the prior meal sitting uneaten, but with their mandatory and necessary medication "hidden" in the rice, will also make you angry. Third negative experience...arriving on day 3 and finding them lying in bed again...at lunchtime...again...only this time covered from head to toe in feces and the toilet covered in feces will AGAIN make you angry. The care is less than adequate for the $[removed] a month paid. Not pleased at all. Need more than 1000 characters to fully express my discontent.

NOT RECOMMENDED

Food is edible at best. A reasonable effort is made to provide residents with opportunities for exercise and socialization. Apartments are generally spacious and comfortable, though getting maintenance to address a noisy dishwasher or refrigerator can be an ordeal. Management is generally unresponsive or very slow in addressing residents' voiced concerns, even with regard to safety, security or sanitation Little or no effort is expended in keeping residents updated regarding practices or policies. What little information is provided is inconsistent, unclear, contradictory or unreliable. Long on promises, short on performance. Staff are well-meaning and generally courteous, but poorly trained. Situation is exacerbated by very high staff turnover. Several glaring instances of grossly unqualified and poorly-vetted staff hires have occurred within the 24 months I’ve been a resident at Bishop Place

If your family member can actively participate and be more independent then it is a good place

It is hard for me to do this because I was not allowed in the facility. My mom was supposed to be in the memory care unit, they were charging me for her showers. She took 2 in the 4 months she was there but they charged me every single week. When we moved her out she was a mess and her room was nasty. Her clothes were not put away, they did not put the mattress we sent with her on the bed, she had 2 sets of sheets we sent with her and she was on the roughest sheets and they lost 1 of the sets that we sent her and never put the other on. They said they would reimburse me but they have not. They have something advertised on the door that they will let family in so that she would not decline. They never offered that to me even after I was complaining about it. She had prescriptions out in the open in her room and only 1 of 30 had been taken.

Per DSHS report, there are, in my opinion, egregious deficiencies identified with the administrator at the time saying, "s/he did not know..." Items such as allowing a non-licensed person to administer medications, etc. Although these items have been recently remedied (2020), with a significant staff change from nursing to administration, I am uncomfortable placing my parent here due to the nature of the findings, as well as, the short-term of the present staff. They seem like they are very nice and professional people but until there is some longer term stability, I am super uncomfortable with this place - back in 2017 when we were looking at this place for our other parent, there were significant issues identified by the family at that point.

Our loved ones deserve better!

when my Mother first moved into Renaissance, spring of 2017, it was clean and most staff took care of Mom and worked with family to make her stay comfortable. It changed for the worse and by early 2018 the room and building was always dirty, under staffed to give proper care. Each time we dropped by to check on Mom she was laying in her own waste with wet sheets. They said she didn’t feal like getting up so she missed meds and food and was given a liquid meal replacement. Some staff tried hard to care for so many in the memory building but a few were lazy. Management was deceiving and would always give me the same answer “ they were working to make things better”. We had no choice but to relocate Mother to another facility.

Work in Progress

We are still working on some issues here at Willowood at Mustang. I would give the community a higher rating but they have not come through with replacing the carpet in my mom's studio apartment. They cleaned the carpet but the former resident was very incontinent and the room still smells like urine. They had said they were going to get her into a one bedroom and my mom is very unhappy about living in the smaller studio apartment. They provide activities for the residents but my mom does not need a walker or wheelchair so she feels they don't offer a lot for her level of activities. She does enjoy playing dominoes and going to the church services that they have there in the community. Other than my mom's room the rest of the environment in Willowood is clean and warmly decorated.
