NOT RECOMMENDED

Food is edible at best. A reasonable effort is made to provide residents with opportunities for exercise and socialization. Apartments are generally spacious and comfortable, though getting maintenance to address a noisy dishwasher or refrigerator can be an ordeal. Management is generally unresponsive or very slow in addressing residents' voiced concerns, even with regard to safety, security or sanitation Little or no effort is expended in keeping residents updated regarding practices or policies. What little information is provided is inconsistent, unclear, contradictory or unreliable. Long on promises, short on performance. Staff are well-meaning and generally courteous, but poorly trained. Situation is exacerbated by very high staff turnover. Several glaring instances of grossly unqualified and poorly-vetted staff hires have occurred within the 24 months I’ve been a resident at Bishop Place

If your family member can actively participate and be more independent then it is a good place

It is hard for me to do this because I was not allowed in the facility. My mom was supposed to be in the memory care unit, they were charging me for her showers. She took 2 in the 4 months she was there but they charged me every single week. When we moved her out she was a mess and her room was nasty. Her clothes were not put away, they did not put the mattress we sent with her on the bed, she had 2 sets of sheets we sent with her and she was on the roughest sheets and they lost 1 of the sets that we sent her and never put the other on. They said they would reimburse me but they have not. They have something advertised on the door that they will let family in so that she would not decline. They never offered that to me even after I was complaining about it. She had prescriptions out in the open in her room and only 1 of 30 had been taken.

Per DSHS report, there are, in my opinion, egregious deficiencies identified with the administrator at the time saying, "s/he did not know..." Items such as allowing a non-licensed person to administer medications, etc. Although these items have been recently remedied (2020), with a significant staff change from nursing to administration, I am uncomfortable placing my parent here due to the nature of the findings, as well as, the short-term of the present staff. They seem like they are very nice and professional people but until there is some longer term stability, I am super uncomfortable with this place - back in 2017 when we were looking at this place for our other parent, there were significant issues identified by the family at that point.

Our loved ones deserve better!

when my Mother first moved into Renaissance, spring of 2017, it was clean and most staff took care of Mom and worked with family to make her stay comfortable. It changed for the worse and by early 2018 the room and building was always dirty, under staffed to give proper care. Each time we dropped by to check on Mom she was laying in her own waste with wet sheets. They said she didn’t feal like getting up so she missed meds and food and was given a liquid meal replacement. Some staff tried hard to care for so many in the memory building but a few were lazy. Management was deceiving and would always give me the same answer “ they were working to make things better”. We had no choice but to relocate Mother to another facility.

Bad experience

This is the 2nd review I have written. Skyline from visual appearance is a beautiful place clean and friendly. However, very expensive. but more concerning I have some unresolved issues with them. First they have a [removed] problem with the staff. [removed]. this issue was reported to the administrator almost three months ago and there has been no resolution to the problem. Also my father had shortness of breath on the 17th of July he pushed his alert button several times no response. He started yelling for help and hour passed before the staff assisted him and he was transported to the hospital. This happen at 10;30 pm. When he was released from the hospital on the 24th the case worker called for transport back to skyline no transport was provided.

I would give the office personnel a zero!

The caregivers were all very friendly, I would give them 5 for friendliness, but the people in the offices are another story. I would give the office personnel a zero! Up until lately things have been good. I don't understand what happened. He never liked the food, he called it slop, a lot of them do. They said they had an activities director that would come every day and get him, invite him to join, and they never did that. We are the one who deal with everything, if they have a question they should call us. We have been in the process of finding a new community. Bill Murr, who is the sales director, or some similar position, I never have met him, called the new place and talked to their sales director, and asked if the new room was ready. He told her he wanted to get us out early. They want to move someone in sooner than we were planning to move. He made a comment that if we could be out by the 15th they can move the new person in on the 16th. This doesn't seem right, I thought they would need to paint and clean the carpet and whatnot. After going around me to check with the new community, I was asked if I could arrange to move him early. I already had the movers set up and scheduled, this was not really possible for us. Bill then offered to refund us for every day we left early. We weren't able to make it happen by the fifteenth, but did arrange to move sooner. When he heard that it wouldn't be when he wanted, he said we don't give refunds he said it is just too bad that you changed things and are moving early. I never thought of getting money back until they offered it. If they tell you something like this get it in writing.

First impressions

I always go by first impressions of the person I meet or people in the facility. The person I met with was a very negative person who promoted the facility as "one of the few in the area" that did memory care. But she was such a negative personality, I couldn't see past that. It may be the only facility in the area with that type of care, but if she represents the type of care available, no thank you!

Overlooked bedbugs and basic care needs

I am appalled. I was informed my client was behaving in an unacceptable manner. I immediately went over to access the situation. Her room was infested with bedbugs. You wonder why she was acting out, living with that. I cannot fathom that between caretakers and house cleaning nothing was noticed or any action was taken. During the cleanup of a two week period my client returned to her room. Her shower curtain had not been hung. I asked the facility to hang it for her, please. They agreed. I returned a week and a half later and it was still on the bathroom floor. My client had not showered for that entire time. I forgot to mention my client has dementia. Where is the care this facility offers? She is moving out post haste.

be on guard

One should not have to chose between good personal care and activities, certainly not at the prices charged. The personal care ends once the contract is signed. Ask about staffing ratios and have a meal before you sign. How can one caregiver handle 10 residents or more during the day with dementia and provide personal care and attention? We all assume there is some required level of attention in these facilities, not true. [removed] If you do admit, visit often and speak up for those that cannot. Hold the facility accountable for the services you expect and are paying for. Be vigilant of your resident's care needs. Note physical changes and notify staff. Do not rely on them for medical supervision.

I am not usually a negative person, but I have been so frustrated with Skyline Place. My parents have been residents there for 1 1/2 years. The positive is that most of the workers are kind and gentle. My biggest complaints are the poor communication and the constantly increasing cost. The director is slow to address/resolve concerns. We have trouble getting packages delivered to the correct room (three incidents)and getting requested services (bathing) to happen when scheduled. Some services that were originally offered have been reneged with no reduction in monthly fee. The meals, that a year and a half ago were fantastic, are now and have been medicore for months. Our biggest problem is that we really don't have much, if any, choice of assisted care in the area. I really won't and can't recommend Skyline to anyone who asks.

warning before putting any money down

Please be careful before signing any contract or giving them money. Elderly handicapped lady paid $[fee removed] down for a 1-bedroom unit that was available and she'd toured. It's been a month and no one at the company or management returns calls or has moved forward or will call her. Multiple attempts to reach someone and get answers have been futile. They've disappeared and left her hanging without money or a place. The initial intake employee was excellent, but abruptly is no longer there and there never seems to be anyone available now. The main corporate office only has an answering machine and no one answers or returns messages timely. As a case manager, I've never witnessed this level of unprofessionalism. The senior understandably is concerned that she's been scammed and by the evidence, that appears so.

They are understaffed, and unorganized. They did not provide what they said. The price for memory care in general is far to high. They had trouble keeping her clean (she is incontinent) and keeping her bed clean, and they lost her bedding and clothes, they lost her tv remote and stuffed animal. My mother was having trouble chewing her food, and no one noticed. My sister and I on several different occasions noticed, and I mentioned it to the staff, who said they would give her more chewable food, but it never happened.

Don't Go Here

Upon move-in we discovered the carpet was FILTHY. My bare feet were left black after several hours of moving them in. The woman who ran the place literally THREW THEM OUT upon finding out they had Covid , which they themselves went to get tested for & reported immediately to the staff. She forced them to get on a bud and ride 3 hours to a disgusting "nursing home". She verbally assaulted & was incredibly rude to my mother & her husband & they did not understand what was going on. The food was awful, the facility was dirty and security was nonexistent. Once my parents were evicted for having Covid, they never went back. I would never recommend The Renaissance at Ponca City.
