Does the new Executive director know what she is doing? I asked for some information and it took me going up to Avery Place only to have to wait on her to make a call to ask someone else for the answer. Did she even make the effort weeks ago when I asked or just then when I was tired of waiting on her and showed up. Get it together. Other than that the staff is always helpful.

Nice Tour of The Facility

I toured this community for my father, and his needs. My tour went well, everyone was very kind. The staff was informative, and answered my questions. The community looked nice, and well-kept. The experience was a good one, and my tour was nice.

We checked this place out. The two bedroom apartment seemed to be ok, and the large sun room near the apartment was very inviting. But the apartment was still too small, and by comparison, the apartment at Celebration Village is much larger and fits Dad's and Virginia's needs better.

there is potential

We moved to Avery Place thinking they were going to open the memory care unit. Evidently there is a fire inspection and they found some things they had to correct. I really like the director of the memory care but she isn't taking care of my mother at this point. Mother is in the assisted living part. The menu is disturbing. They have had the same thing for lunch and for dinner. The van transportation was late for taking my mom to a doctors appointment. They got her up and transported and all that and they reschedule the appointment because she was so late. This was the second time this has happened. There is some bad management going on. I really believe in the memory care director but mom is not under her care yet. I think there is potential but there are things that need taken care of.

Our family's experience was such that we could recommend this place only if standards for patient care were improved....

Best thing was their friendliest. Need improvement on telling the truth, in following through on promises, in keeping their word, and mostly on patient care when they're to ill to call for and demand attention. Ex. AC did not work in patient's room so portable one brought in with promise it would be fixed tomorrow. Blew very cold air in one spot and so loud conversation was difficult. Never got fixed. Ex. 2. Promised neck-chain alert was never provided nor substituted. Ex. 3 Sick patient was allowed to lay 6 hours without anyone even opening his door to even look in. Our family's experience was such that we could recommend this place only if standards for patient care were improved and honesty became their policy.

Lanier Place; entry to the facility is in the assisted-living section which seem well appointed. However, memory care is behind locked doors. It is dark and furnishings are very old. The one nurse seemed to remain in her office assessed my dad wants and not sure she interacted with him after. There were a few staff members that seem very diligent to do their work and help. Especially [name removed], the activity Director. The family was told that dad fell during the night. When I inquired about it the offsite Director said it did not happen. He Indicated that the family must be fibbing about the situation. At this point we knew that the new place was not for us.

I was not pleased

I would tell others to beware. Make sure that they explain everything thoroughly before you move in. Once I moved in, they increased my monthly rate and they did not tell me that I needed to provide my own furniture. Overall. I would not recommend to others who are looking.

Messy Community !!

My first impression of the community during our tour was it needed some serious deep cleaning. There where boxes piled up all over the place and the building was not well maintained. The dinning room had dishes everywhere and the carpet had many stains. My loved one was not impressed and would not even consider living in this environment.

Look at other options

Regretfully, this is not the place for an individual with Parkinson's. PROS: Staff is polite. Facility is clean, is getting complete overhaul (carpet, paint, furniture etc), is centrally located, and some rooms have screened-in porch. CONS: Rooms are smaller than many comparable's for same price, staff will not assist moving residents from room to dining area, staff will not bring food to rooms if patient cannot make dining hours, confusion amongst staff members on patient care policies and no follow-up from management on known concerns. [removed] We have since visited multiple facilities and selected another that is only a few years old, same price, bigger rooms, on a lake, good location, familiar with Parkinson's and cruise-ship like service.

White Oaks communities seem...

White Oaks communities seem very nice. This facility seems to need a bit of work, nevertheless they were very nice. It is a bit outdated and they seemed surprised that we were coming (or maybe unprepared for us). Very nice activities director Beverly. After the search took us so many different places, we are more inclined to be looking more north than in the center of Cumming.

They won't keep up their property

The American flag out front hasn't been fixed in months... all the stripes on the flag are going in their own directions. I asked them about it, and they said the flag pole pulley was broken. MORE THAN 3 MONTHS to fix this problem and they haven't.

Sad

It is very sad that this place is all about money and not about care. I strongly urge you to look elsewhere for your loved ones care. They look very good on the surface, but in reality the care is substandard
