I would recommend

We chose Homestead because they had a private room available at the time. I also just had a good experience with the admissions staff and at the time they were running a really good deal that we could not pass up. The cook has been very accommodating, my dad talked to him one day and he was able to make him something else. The staff members have all been great with answering our questions and following up. I would recommend to others looking.

Would recommend it, a good place for loved ones

The staff members have all been wonderful, and so far our loved one has not complained about the meals or dining service so we assume that is pretty good. We have not been able to participate in the group settings due to the covid restrictions, we are only able to visit in our loved ones room which we completely understand, but that has limited our exposure to the community and its amenities. We do know the activities have came back because we got pictures time to time of our loved one participating.

First of all, [name removed] is great and I really enjoyed meeting with her. The building is clean and nicely renovated and doesn't have that depressing atmosphere that so many nursing homes have. I have concerns about costs - a lot of small charges that add up - so I will have to discuss with my family about affordability. Like the opportunity for cultural activities - particularly the guy who comes in and reads short stories.

Transition

On the whole, I would say my loved one is in better condition than she was months ago when she moved in. She's always clean, she's dressed, her hair is washed. She's appropriate to the weather, if she needs long sleeves, etc. What I don't like- I got a call that she had nothing warm to wear - no socks, this or that. But when I got there, she had an entire drawer full. I went out and bought stuff to make sure she had what she needed. I had to go to the director to have someone actually go in there and open the drawer and look. I also would expect them to let me know when she needs more Depends, or set a schedule for it. I would rather they just let me know ahead of time than wait until she's down to nothing so I have to run around like a goose to get her what she needs. They keep her supplies in a locked closet, which I do understand. If it's not locked, she'll get in there and pick it all apart. But that means I can't check on it myself. They do call me when she falls or needs to change her meds, which is important. But the day to day things are important as well. They need better internal communication so they can communicate with the families better. The clothing issue has been resolved since I addressed it with them. My loved one doesn't seem to mind the food. Activities are a little on the large scale for her. It's all big groups together for coloring, birthday celebrations, etc. I wish there were opportunities for her for smaller gatherings with just a few people - she's not one for big groups. All the memory care centers are expensive, and Atrium is not an exception. But I didn't want a nursing home for my loved one. With this place, they have more aides and dieticians and physicians, and truly nurses that will call me. Although I don't think the communication between nurse's aide, home health aide, and licensed staff is so good. Hospitals do what is called a huddle, where they go over changes and happenings during the day at staff changes. I think something like that could be beneficial in this type of care as well. They're just now opening up so we can bring her food and take her out. They've made sure the residents had their shots. When your family member first moves in, they have a week where they ask you not to visit so the new resident can get settled. In our experience, I think it should be closer to a month so they can get fully settled. People with dementia don't handle change well, and every time we would visit, she would cling and not want to stay, which was hard on both parties. When we came back in a month, it was a different reaction. But at the beginning, they were extremely good at talking to us and letting us know what was going on. The director was exceptional in how he handled the move-in transition. I thought it was going to be a nightmare to leave her. We had tried adult day care, and she literally tried to escape. But the director took her around to the cafeteria and said I have some paperwork, would you like to have tea and cookies with me, and she was all for it. And it took all of the nasty, scary vibes out of it. It was just let's go have a cup of tea and chat. Which was the best way to handle it. It allowed us to leave without her thinking it was a bad thing. And now that she's adjusted, she's doing okay. She knows all the girls names. They definitely keep things clean. The first thing I did when I walked in the door was take a deep breath. If I could smell pee, I would not leave her there. And I did not smell that at all at Atrium. Overall I think they do a good job. I just wish communication was a little better sometimes.

Positive experience at a new community with lots of potential

Overall, it's been a very positive experience. I think because they're new, there may be some growing pains. Especially because my loved ones moved in not that long ago, they kind of feel like they're forgotten about sometimes and have had to follow up on some things. They needed a bar put up by the toilet, and they had to ask three times before it finally got put in. I don't think it's at all intentional, I just think that they're short-staffed and multitasking, which can cause things to slip through the cracks. Also, there was a lack of communication about a change in cleaning schedule where my parents were waiting all day, and the housekeeper never showed up. Apparently they changed the day, and that information didn't make it's way to my loved ones. I'm not sure of his job title, but[name removed] has been very helpful. He talks to my loved ones every day and brings their newspaper in. He's helped them take an old chair out of their apartment and move a new one in. He usually drives them to their appointments. He's very social with them, and is their go-to person if they need anything. He seems to go above and beyond. I believe the community is at about a quarter capacity since they're new, so he and all the other employees are wearing many hats and doing many things, stepping in wherever they're needed. It's been a huge help that they've been able to take my loved ones to doctor appointments, and I've not had to use up all my vacation time at work to make that happen. My loved ones have been very happy with the food. Given the circumstances, The Pinnacle has done what they can with activities. Overall, my loved ones are happy there now that they've settled in.

Ideally she would be home with us, but since she can't be, she's well cared for here.

There are a lot of things I like about The Peninsula, and a few things I wish were different. The good parts are I like the caregivers. The people who work directly with my loved one are very nice. The head nurse texts me every so often and lets me know what my loved one needs. She's also sent me some pictures, which I appreciated. The bad parts are I've had some issues with admin and billing. There's not much communication in general from the administration. They've not provided healthcare updates and tend not to get back to me when I call. They never did put my loved one's pictures up on her wall when she moved in. Those are the things that have been hard with Covid. At first we couldn't go in, so we didn't even know that was the case and just found out. Overall the facility itself is very clean, and our loved one is always clean and well kept when we see her. We did see the laundry piling up at one point, but overall they keep things pretty clean.

a nice place to live

The staff was very good, we liked all of them. They were very nice people. The communication between the staff and the family was good and they kept us updated. I would recommend this community to others

our experience

I was disappointed in the community they continued to charge even though he was in the hospital and not able to return to the community. I would still recommend this community to others. The staff is very pleasant and does a great job.

My review of The Meridian

The only reason I gave it a 4 and not a 5 is because of the accounting department, I get bills already paid and I try calling and emailing and I do not get an answer. Other than that, we have no issues with the facility and it is a very nice, new place. I would recommend to others looking.

a safe and caring place

The food is absolutely terrible, but the staff is wonderful, they took good care of my mom. The rooms are perfectly fine, mom had a one-bedroom and the size was perfect I would recommend this community to others

Our experiences with Gentry Park

We liked that this was a smaller facility and it was also very homey feeling. The room sizes here are on the smaller side but my parents only have a 1 bedroom, they do have other options available, but the bedroom is HUGE. My parents do think that the food could use some improvement. There has been a lot of turnover of staff at this facility but I think that is all across the board. Of all the ones that I toured, I would recommend this community.
