Do Not be fooled by this facility

Do not be fooled by this facility. It is beautiful. Really one of the nicest we have seen. However they have some serious problems with staff, safety and quality. We moved my dad in with the highest hopes for compassionate care and socialization. However, it was a disaster. NONE of the services we contacted for were provided. Its not that they did a poor job, they were not provided. No wellness checks, no daily housekeeping, no laundry, no bed making, no mobility assistance - nothing. Every time we asked the front desk we were referred to a different someone who was "off that day". The front desk staff always seemed to be like it was the first 5 minutes on the job, like candid camera - they didn't know anything about their own facility or who to call. No one their could even tell us where to park - I have never seen anything like it. I expected that on move in there would be some sort of on boarding, where the head of every department came by and introduced themselves and explained their role - this would be helpful but they do not have that. It felt like a beautiful, unmanned facility. The only caregivers I ever saw, and I was there daily were private hired by residents, as we did as well. If it were not for our caregiver who was there to help with the transition, I do not know what would have or could have happened to him with such neglect. Further their pharmacy messed up his medication, putting him in the hospital. After 8 days we pulled him out because it was unsafe. Do your self a favor and read employee reviews from indeed or glassdoor. I should have. I am not one to leave reviews and always give people the benefit of the doubt, but this is a unique type of business that has a higher standard - due to the importance of their product - the care and safety of loved ones.

Beware

Beware! My mother was a resident for 1.5 years, and then my family had no choice BUT to remove her just before 2019. The Environment was Unbearable. I felt Maplewood in Twinsburg was unable to give great care due to management issues. Management was No Support other than words. The staff was nice and helpful BUT there were NEVER enough aides. The quality of nursing was great & Horrible; My mother’s medicines were NOT given appropriately too many times. And when we asked for an official medical write-up for doctors on how mom was doing, the Executive Director gave either hand-written Note-Papers -OR- a typed sheet with no date or signature. When the Executive Director was not there, many times I did not know who was in charge. My family did not see improvement and before exiting, three wall pictures were stolen from our mother’s room and since management said, due to ceiling monitors not seeing anything (which I was not shown what could be seen), Maplewood let it go with No write-up given to my family. I didn't want to remove mom BUT with continuing situations, we left Unhappy and viewed the value of Maplewood Twinsburg poor!

[Removed] sentence in a beautiful environment.

Beautiful environment that lacks proper care for it's elderly residents. Fourth stage pressure sores can occur for residents that are wheelchair bound. The nursing staff is limited and care is minimal. Preventable pressure sores can occur with serious infection to take the life away of a resident. Do not expect the nursing department to be pro-active and to avoid situations that could of been avoided.

A major disappointment

My mother lived there for 7yrs. She had dietary restrictions which no one seemed to be able to follow. This difficulty had painful consequences. The food itself was below standards. The room cleaning was subpar along with a continuous ant problem. The activities were not done well if at all. The organization of these so called activities were extremely poor. Most of the aids were ill trained and fairly incompetent. Overall her time there when it was owned by previous owners was fine. The new owners are only interested in cashing the residents cheeks not the residents.

Poor

I recommend that you look for another place. The administrative staff is unprofessional. Their profit motivation creates an atmosphere of poor and unethical behavior regarding resident care. There is no forum for resolving issues. There is a lot of eye rolling and avoidance when issues arise. I feel the facility director is not forthcoming or truthful in this regard. There are virtually no activities for residents in this facility. You are locking your loved one away here. Be very careful!

Oh, what a tangled web we weave,...

...when first we practice to deceive! To truly understand this facility, I recommend searching for employee reviews at Indeed because appearances can be deceiving. The good: Cleanliness and food. I have to admit that while my family member was there, the place was better than hotel clean every time we visited - even the room. The food offered was always good and if my family member didn't want the choices available, the kitchen was always willing to make them something different as long as it was simple (e.g. sandwich, some pasta, etc). The average: Staff was always pleasant when talked to. Some were more caring than others - more so in the dining and cleaning staff, less so with the people providing care. I suspect the care workers are given far too much to do and it will show after a while. The bad: I quickly felt that it was all about the money and appearances, not about what is best for the resident. It seemed like a lot of care staff are just there to earn a buck and do the bare minimum to complete their assigned tasks. Saw some residents get ignored for long periods of time, even when they're yelling for help and have pressed their aid call buttons. Nursing staff was rarely available to talk to. The unforgivable: Communication with the family is beyond bad. Multiple medical incidents were never communicated to us. Medical tests done incorrectly or on a part of the body that didn't need testing. Medicine ordered that was never needed. Needed medicine ordered from their preferred pharmacy instead of from the one that insurance pays for leading to extra charges. Lack of care leading to residents needing outside medical care. Disclosure of aspects of resident medical history to non-family. Remember that if you tour, it's a "dog and pony" show to convince you to spend money, not necessarily a true representation of what the facility is like. Fortunately, my family member has left this place and is getting much better care now. We've even run into former staff in the new facility that are glad my family member got moved.

Maplewood is awful

Maplewood at Danbury was horrible. All they do is drug up their residents with sedatives instead of helping them live a happy life. when I continuously questioned the doctors there, they became agitated and pretended my loved one was in a bad mental state. as soon as my loved one was removed from their facility, all psychotropic drugs were discontinued and he was, and continues to be fine! I make sure I tell people NOT to take their loved one to Maplewood at danbury. Luckily, I work in retail so I speak with a lot of people.

If only we had it to do over again.

The worst decision we have ever made was to move our Mom into the Currents neighborhood at Maplewood at Brewster. In four short months Mom became too weak to walk and eat. From Maplewood she went into rehab to try to get strong once again with only minor success. Mom is now able to lift her head up off of her chest, she is smiling more and even laughing, but she will probably never walk again. Maplewood's recommendation to put Mom on Trazodone for safety reasons started her downfall. She went from being one of the most upbeat/popular residents at her former assisted living residence to a shell of a person that couldn't even lift her head up to communicate or to eat. She was walking fine (slow but steady) when she moved in back in February, now she is wheelchair bound. Mom started fainting fairly often while under Maplewood's care and wound up in the hospital multiple times. Since we moved Mom out of Maplewood this past June she has not had one fainting/syncope episode. It seems that the management at Maplewood wants their Currents residents to be the same-- knocked out, sleepy, unresponsive, and in other words easy to manage. They also seem to count on families being uninvolved in their loved one's care. They have lied to us on numerous occasions, tried to overcharge us, and often would not respond to emails. If you sign a contract with Maplewood it means nothing. I was told that the figures on our signed contract were wrong when we had a dispute over the amount of money charged to us. Try to look beyond the beautiful building and grounds; all is not as it appears. We hope that with this review we will save others from the heartache that we have gone through. If only we had it to do over again.

Was great when we moved in. Going on two years.

This is NOT AN ALZHEIMERS FACILITY. It is Independent Living AT BEST. There is no follow through on individual care. Staff "AIDS" are lacking in experience and training. There is only ONE nurse in the building only at given times. No follow through on resident issues. Services provided is a huge "grey area".
