Becoming Expensive To Live Here

This is a nice community, but it isn't working out for my brother in law. He isn't very happy here. When he first moved into the community he was in the assisted living portion, but they moved him to the other side. They also increased his rate. They also charge $1,000 for medication management. This is a good community, it looks great and modern. It is just becoming to expensive for our budget.

The Maplewood was small. It was very small compared to the other places we were considering and they didn't have the grounds or anything like that. My mom wouldn't really go out on the grounds much but she loves the views and everything so that was still a factor.

Nice community but very expensive

The staff here is really good and very nice. The community is very clean and well kept. The only real issue I have with it is that it is so expensive, it seems like it could cost less for what they offer. The location is very convenient for our family which was a main factor when deciding.

Review for Maplewood at Stony Hill

Maplewood is great, but transitioning a loved one to an in-patient setting is not easy. The staff at Maplewood have been very helpful and supportive but programs and additional funding and resources for dementia and Alzheimer's related diseases is vital and needs improvement. However, the staff at Maplewood are kind, compassionate and competent when it comes to memory care. This specialized facility is beautiful, and my mom is doing great in her new home.

would recommend Maplewood however there is room for improvement in meals and outdoor maintenance.

Staff gets a 5 except the director I would give a 3. He does not do what he says he will do. My mom has been promised a new patio door since last summer as the current one does not shut without extreme force and then you can't open it without extreme force. My mom complains she rarely has a hot meal and the quality is hit and miss. She says she has some very good meals and some that are terrible As far as "farm to table" I'm not sure there is anything that meets that description. Additionally when I visit I have to pull weeds outside my mom's patio as the landscaper's apparently don't do this. The pile of debris sits for days.

My experiences are with the dementia care floor of Maplewood in Danbury. It is a nice community with some areas in......

They can improve in following the care plan. Room is not always clean and my parents are usually not clean/showered. Their clothing is not changed on a daily basis. One time my mom was wearing the same thing for four day- even to bed. Overall, the facility is clean but housekeeping in the individual rooms that I've seen with my parents is not. Communication is fairly good with instances that happen with my parents. We've also had several family meetings to discuss issues and our next course of action. My sisters and I are there frequently several times a week so we're really on top of this. My experiences are with the dementia care floor of Maplewood in Danbury. It is a nice community with some areas in need of improvement.

Acceptable, could be a better place

The top administration changed in the beginning of the year. Changes were made. Lots of employees have left, other employees clearly not happy. Many new people there. You do not know who will be taking care of your loved one. Many are brand new...a changing of staff is confusing for those in memory care. Food is not served warm sometimes, my father has said everything is too bland. They do have many activities.

Maplewood at Darien

I hired home care aides to spend time with my wife in order to supplement efforts by Maplewood staff. Once it was apparent that "outside" aides were there Maplewood staff began shirking their duties/responsibilities by (incorrectly) relying on the outside home care aides to do things they (Maplewood) was responsible for. So, establishment and executing the "plan of care" must be carried out regardless of presence of supplemental aides Also, what is level of medical care. Maplwood's lone RNA never interacts with the 'residents', the lone CNA rarely does. If resident requires medical attention Maplewood is not the place for your 'loved one'.

Disappointed

My mother died there at the end of May last year. I was not too happy with them during the final weeks she had there. They did not manage her pain too well had to keep on top of them to keep her comfortable. I also did not like the food they fed her was very bland and tasteless. She was on a puréed diet. If she was not as sick as she was I would have moved her somewhere else. I think if she wasn't so sick and able to do any of her own care it might have been different. But most the time there she spent in her room alone until I could get there after work. Not sure if they even checked on her as they said they would

Glitzy, But Not Worth It

Inspir markets itself as very upscale. The trouble is that it is impersonable and not very friendly. The management does not show any effort to make residents feel at home. There is considerable staff turnover so many caregivers do not know their client's needs. The variety and scope of the activities offered is a strong point. The food quality and variety is another strength.

Daughter of Resident

It was a beautiful place and was told the level of care would meet my mothers needs. Although it's aesthetically beautiful, the level of care is not as strong as they present. One person on duty for many residents. Short staffed. Activities are not well planned and no encouragement to participate in the limited ones they have. No outdoor focus in beautiful weather. Dining room is warm and pretty but short staffed and no communication or coaching/prompting on menu items for those who need it. It's just "what do you want to eat"? If the person can't articulate or is confused they get very limited food. Long wait times. Administration is not on the ball either. Issues moving in. So overall not so impressed.

We love the actual facility, it has full kitchens, large apartments, a heated pool, and the public spaces are very upscale. We are extremely disappointed with the food, and food service. The quality is low, and unappetizing. The food servers are rude and untrained. The food is often cold. We are also luke warm on the house cleaning services. They don't do a good job in private apartments. Entertainment has been good but not frequent enough.

O.K. Facility with some issues like all facilities

My mother moved in about 3 months after they opened. Like all facilities, there were issues....clothing missing, hearing aids broken and/or not being used, hearing aids not being cleaned, but one thing I would say, the aids always treated my mom kind and loving. We were there nearly every day so we saw quite a bit. The part that upsets me is that, although they have a clause in the agreement that states you have to give them a 30 day notice before moving out, no one reminded me of that when my mom was nearing the end of her life. She had lived in 2 other facilities where upon death you only owed till the day you vacated the premise. At Maplewood, not even 10 days after my mom passed I got a bill stating we owed the balance of 30 days. We could have lowered the final bill if someone from the facility, who is well aware of the "rules", reminded me. They chose not to say anything so that we would owe the full month.

Look beyond the fancy finishes

My parents lived here for 5 years. Staff is nice but there is a lot of turnover. Location of building is good but there is no real access to outside except for small patio. Sometimes I would see residents walking down the side of the road just for a little outdoor exercise on nice days. There are no sidewalks or anyplace to walk that are longer than 50-100 feet. The response to this was to put a bench in a parking space with a potted plant next to it and call it a new garden. There are fitness classes but they were all in the morning. The pool has extremely limited swim times. There are no views of the Charles River from any of the public areas although some apartments do have views. Food was very good. Often there were excellent performances in the evening. My parents moved to another facility after they hired their 8th resident care director in a little over 3 years.

Concerned About Current Status

Just reading this last review and can't help but chime in that there are issues here in turnover. They are losing good people, especially on the second floor. They just lost the person who ran the dementia unit this week, and others have recently left as well. The DIrector there is a major issue to all I have spoken to. Make sure you look very carefully before proceeding. We are worried but not directly impacted yet.

The Maplewood Staff Cares But Dining Causes Frustration

Maplewood is a lovely place with a caring staff. The main problem is the dining room food and service. It is billed as "farm to table" and it is not. The food is not great. The service in the dining room, though friendly and kind, is unbearably slow. Sometimes waiting half an hour for food. Everyone at a table getting served at different times. Causes residents unneeded stress and irritation. Non-dining room management and staff should sit in the dining room to facilitate conversation (which elderly people find difficult) and to experience the frustration the residents have to go through three times a day. The activities are lacking in the sense that there are things to go to (movies in the living room, music performances, trips out to dinner), but there is nothing to do. No arts and crafts, workshops, certainly nothing that would be appealing to intelligent elderly people. The residents who do not need memory care have no artistic or creative outlets. There is no gym or exercise or therapy space.
