Maplewood Senior Living

An ad in the local paper brought me to Maplewood for a seminar on Dementia. I was totally amazed by the well designed, lovely, yet professional air of the place. The large private apartments, the caring and highly trained staff and the inviting dining room (with a private chef to prepare the meals) would make my Dad feel special every day. I then investigated five other communities. Maplewood surpassed them by far in every aspect. Dad lived here for 10 months before passing. He was kept clean, well dressed, and lovingly cared for. He enjoyed participating with the other residents in games and entertainment. We could take him out for lunch or occasionally bring dinner and enjoy a private party in the "Family" dining room. I cannot give enough thanks to the entire staff for making Dad's last few months so special. This is where I would want to live if and when the need arises.

The staff did everything possible to make the transition possible. They are always there to help resident & family adjust to the new situation. The care giving staff treated Mom as if she was one of their own family.

I went on a tour her it was very very nice and clean. The tour was good. It was like walking into a Hotel Resort. It was to far for me and my sister to visit her. They gave us a pastry at the end of it.

Mom seems to be accumulating well. She is eating well 3x a day they try to get farm to table as much as possible. They are making sure she is getting her medicine. The staff is great and friendly they all know her name and they joke around with her. You have to be something special to work at a place like this. The rooms are spacious and they are cleaned daily and it is sanitary isn't messy at all. I would recommend this community.

From administrators to housekeeping, nursing/aides to maintenance, all of you are willing to do whatever is needed to provide a quality compassionate residence - a loving "home". My heart was broken when I found that [Removed] was going to Columbus, broken because he would be gone, essentially out of my life, because he was losing his home again and all of his support but also, selfishly, because I won't get to see all of you every day - you and the other residents I've come to care about. I have enormous respect and affection for all of you. There is a saying that has meaning for me, “Many people will walk through your life, but only some will leave footprints on your heart." You are those people - your footprints are on my heart and I know on Ang's, too. My "attendance" everyday gave me the opportunity to see all the things you do and my admiration and appreciation grew with the knowledge. My parents are doing awesome with her move to this community, It has been an awesome experience for us in this community. I'am very pleased with her move here. I know she is safe, and in good hands. It can be hard to find the nurse, but they have one nurse for thirty patients. I had issue with my father getting his antibiotics, it took him 24 hours to get it. However the staff was very responsive to the problem, and the administration was quick to step in. The community is spotless, and they do a great job with the cleanliness. The meals are great, and they provide activities every hour for the residents. Everything has worked out great for us in this community, and I would recommend it.

Maplewood happily works with the family to ensure optimal service. We have reached them at all times of the day/evening. The place is very clean and classy looking. The staff/aides are so friendly and patient with the people they care for. They know the residents and treat them with respect.

I find the fee structure overwhelming but they are doing their best to help out by waiving this month's fee. They have been flexible and helpful in other ways. For instance they are charging my mom a lower fee so she can live with him. The staff help with his medication and that is a big value. My parent like all the meals they serve. Although they are not participating, activities are available when they are ready. The staff understand my parents and let them have their independence. I am happy with this community.

After our father passed away, we had concerns about our mother living alone. After Mom spent several years taking care of her mother, she vowed never to put her children through that. Assisted living became our goal. We (siblings) toured several of the same facilities SEPARATELY. We then compared notes and amazingly had the same feedback on each. Maplewood was by far our #1 choice. Maplewood does not look or smell like an institution. It looks like a lodge. The apartment fronts look like individual home fronts, not an apartment or hotel hallway. The fireplaces, decor, woodwork make it warm and inviting. The landscape is very nice and kept up. This is all a major plus which makes our Mom feel comfortable. The Maintenance Department is amazing. It seems to be a one man show (Jason). I have brought up concerns or needs to Jason and I have always been amazed how quickly and accurately he gets things done. He is a tremendous asset to the facility. The professional staff (Nurses, Chef, Activity Staff) and the non-Professional (Housekeeping, aides, reception) are all wonderful. Our Mom is amazed how everyone knows her name and greets her. They treat her very well and her spirits are almost always very good. The staff treat the family with great respect and concern. They call with issues when appropriate, and are always accommodating and open when we call them with a question or concern. Maplewood was a perfect option for us. The siblings all lived about 30 miles away. We'd worry so much, and Mom's age was certainly having an affect on her lifestyle. Moving her to Maplewood was a great change for all of us. Mom is active, socializing, and watched over with all of her special needs in mind. We can now be family again, instead of caregivers from a distance. The only negatives in our minds are the high costs and the corporate feel on the business side. The old saying that "you get what you pay for" applies here. We would rather pay less, but the care we get makes us feel it is worth it. With these costs, you cannot just say "anything for Mom". We did our homework, reviewed finances and made the decision. The other item is dealing with the business side. After settling in, we noticed a change in the corporate atmosphere that we did not feel in the first 6 months to a year. There was definitely a change at the corporate level to a more profit oriented goal. With all items considered, over almost 2 years, we are thrilled with Maplewood. Mom is now 93 and doing wonderfully. The staff is awesome and we enjoy any interaction with them. We no longer have to worry about Mom day to day with fear she fell or worse, when she did not answer phone.

My experience with everyone in the Maplewood organization has been superb. The facility is thoughtfully designed and kept in excellent cleanliness and condition. Food service is amazing. My wife eats far better than when I was cooking! There is every opportunity for me to voice my opinions including a monthly meeting for family support. Most important is the staff. They are obviously carefully selected to always have care of the resident their primary concern. Everyone is far more patient, polite and caring than I could be. I have visited a number of similar places and talked with family members of residents of other facilities, and I have never regretted my choice of Maplewood. Highly recommended.

Maplewood at Orange was the right move for us. The food is fantastic. Mom only participates in a few of the activities offered. The staff are great and they keep the community very clean.

I recently went to the place and visited with my old neighbor who now lives at Maplewood at Orange. How beautiful it is! The staff seems very friendly, professional, and caring. Everyone was very attentive. I even ate lunch with my friend and it was delicious. My friend is very happy even though originally she wasn't sure if she would like living there. Clearly, they are doing a good job with her. She seems very happy, busy, and well cared for and is doing much better than she was at home. I will come back to visit her often as it's such a friendly and well run place.

My brother, sister and I recently had to make the very heart-wrenching decision that our mother was no longer safe living alone. Thus began our journey to find a clean, loving, not-to-big, assisted living facility. We toured several, and called many more, before we finally found Maplewood at Danbury. Upon our arrival, we were emotionally and physically tired, but soon found ourselves feeling as though we had found our mother her new home. The staff were kind, warm and welcoming and not at all pushy. They took us on a tour and answered all of our questions with patience. Most importantly, the residents appeared to be happy, clean and well cared for. Maplewood is newly renovated and immaculate. The rooms are spacious enough and can be decorated in any manner a resident chooses. After all, we were told, this is her home. It's only been a week, but so far we are thrilled with the care she is receiving. Critically, we know that our mother is well cared for and safe. Hopefully with time, she will come to love her new home and her new friends. Maplewood is all that we could have hoped for...and more.

This was one of the three communities I had narrowed it down to. They were all very comparable, and really came down to personality. This community was bigger than the one we chose, we thought it might have been a little too confusing.

We're very pleased with how things have gone with Maplewood at Orange. The staff are all very friendly, and the facility itself is well kept and clean. The rooms themselves are very nice, more than enough for one person, and bright and sunny with big windows. The biggest complaint I've heard is that the food really is not up to par with the place he was at before, and my loved one is not a particularly picky eater.

Community was nice and very comparable to the one I chose. Clean with friendly staff and I think even a little less expensive but it wasn't as close and that was important.

Lovely facilities and nice people but the DR was a bit quiet at lunch. The place was very clean and offers good activities.

What we like the most about the community is that they seem to be very invested in the quality of life for the residents. If we have had any concerns they address them fairly quickly.

Outstanding, however, we're not qualified for the level of hospice care needed. Outstanding for functional people with minimal care.

Mill Hill has been a perfect fit for my mom. The admission was very kind and helpful. She has a beautiful room which overlooks a nice garden. The staff is very helpful and supportive too. They are helpful to the family and greet everyone with a smile.
