New Community, Still Needs To Establish Better Organization and Training

I would not recommend anyone to Bethlehem Manor Memory Care. My loved one progressed with their memory care needs. The community had issues with giving my loved one baths, and I offered to come in and try to assist with this. The community didn't have me come in. I did offer to take up familiar things to help make bathing time better. The assistant director kind of accused of family members of lying about my loved one's condition. This was repeated multiple times. This is what bothered me the most. I did have concerns about my loved one's memory care needs and the other residents in the community. They ended up transferring my loved one to the hospital and my loved one never made it back to the community. The community initially offered to have my loved one return to the community from the hospital, and then decided not to bring my loved one back to the community. This felt like a lie to us about my loved one being welcomed back into the community. However, I do understand why the community didn't want my loved one back. I just wish that the community was more upfront and didn't seem to lie to us, or accuse us of holding the truth about our loved one back. My loved one ended up in other resident's clothes. There are still missing items of my loved one's in the community. I believe the community needs to have better training for the staff members. I didn't find or see any actual nursing in the community. There were times that I didn't see any aides on the floor, and this concerned me for the residents. I have heard other people that love the community. It didn't seem there were many daily activities. They did have someone coming in for music they said.

Disappointing

We have been disappointed with the care my parents have received. Whitehall Manor's response time to call buttons has been nonexistent. We have talked with management about that and some other issues, and I feel like they're trying to work with us. So we are cautiously optimistic. We had just hoped that it would be a better experience. We can see that the daily staff works really hard though. They're just completely understaffed.

Nice Facility to Care for Parents

Their services are sufficient, and they respond to needs. I think they could have more activities and more personalized attention to the residents. I would also like to see more food options. The bedrooms are cleaned daily, so it's always tidy, and they do the residents' laundry. I've never noticed any cleanliness issues in any of the spaces. They do a really good job in scheduling doctor appointments and transporting the residents, which has been super helpful. They also order and organize all the medications, so I don't have to do any of that.

It was adequate

Based on where our loved one is at now, the Parkland Manor community is more institutional looking.

Not Happy

Don't Go here is what I would tell friends. They left my loved one without feminine napkins for four days and I was out of state. I couldn't get to her. They installed a camera as a staff member was stealing from my loved one.

SVM is just a possible for me. It works from a financial aspect. The facility is ok. I would like to find better. [Name removed] , who actually did my interview, was very personable, informative and pleasant. We had a very good interview. However, I was not happy with the level of communication of the staff. My appointment was never officially confirmed by anyone at SVM, even after I left two voice mails and an email. And it wasn't until the morning of the tour that I was able to get a final confirmation. Unprepared.

I didn't care for this facility at all. It seemed old and dark. Also too many people just lined up in front of the TV. Also, the workers did not say hi or acknowledge my presence on the tour.

We toured this community for my mother, and needs. Everyone was very kind to my family, and I. The community was clean, and everything appeared to be well maintained. The staff we met was friendly, and helpful. However this was too large of a community for my parents.

Few Issues, But Overall Mom is Pleased

It has been a work in progress for us with my mothers move to this community. We have had some medications issues, and problems setting up her oxygen machine. However we are working through things. The staff is willing to work with us, and have been helpful. She is enjoying her time overall. They have nice meals, and she has gotten involved with some of the activities they offer. It is still a work progress, but overall I would recommend this community.

The reception area was nice and the director was very informative. We reviewed my Dad's needs and provided me with a brochure with all the necessary information. The facility seemed odor free and clean. Their rates were good, but I'm still favoring Atria.

I toured Parkland Manor and I didn't like it at all. It just didn't have a good vibe about it and was under construction at the time I visited. We chose another community because I didn't get a good feeling about Parkland Manor.

My review of Saucon Valley Manor

We had transferred our loved one from another facility to this one because we thought they had a memory care program. The director reached out to us letting us know since our loved one dementia was getting worse, but based on just the couple months she was there the dementia got way worst. We do not think they were giving her the medicine she needed for the dementia. She always contracted covid within the facility with other residents. Our only form of contact was through face time and the activities director who was in charge of scheduling them was very overwhelmed since they were short handed which in return made her rude. It was just an horrific experience.

Not Happy

Let me start off by explaining that my Mom, who is 91, is a resident. She cannot walk, has trouble hearing and is legally blind. She requires a Hoyer lift to get moved from her bed to her wheelchair and requires someone to push her wheelchair to and from the dining hall. Most times the aides are so busy that it takes more than an hour and sometimes more than two hours, after calling them, to get one to change her or two to operate the Hoyer to get her into the bed so they can change her. She has been injured by the aides while using the Hoyer lift on several occasions and suffered several cuts that required wound care nurses for weeks. It seems that while some aides know what to do when using the Hoyer, others do not have the training or the patience required to operate it safely. Mom has been in this home almost a year now and there are areas of her body that have never been washed. The food served leaves a lot to be desired. Please do yourself a favor and sample the food while your there, making sure it's the same that's being served to the residents. The food is often served cold and often too tough to eat. Many residents that need help getting to the dining hall are often missing meals because they get them ready too late. This is especially the case with breakfast. The building is nice and for the most part kept very clean. The management will bend over backwards to help you with any concern. It will be corrected immediately, but the corrections do not last and will be back to the way it was the next day. About half of the staff are caring people and the other half do what they need to do to keep their jobs and could care less about the residents. Some t the point of being mean and very rude. Many times you will see what I call a parking lot of residents in wheelchairs just parked in the "Florida Room" sleeping in their wheelchairs and seemingly waiting for the end. Parking them there makes it easier to get them to and from the dining hall. The med nurses issue the meds and any care that is prescribed. Many times that care gets forgotten. My mom has a problem with the skin on her feet and requires a cream to be applied daily. She sometimes goes for weeks without getting it applied. Given these circumstances you might ask why we leave her in such a place. Well it is one of the few that will accept a resident that needs to use a Hoyer lift. Having had Mom is several other homes it does not seem that they are all that different. The bottom line is everything and care comes later. As for activities at this home, I don't think my Mom has ever been taken to any activity other than her weekly hair appointment.
