I am very disappointed with this facility. There are things that are misrepresented. The apartment that I have, there is a lot wrong with it and I have talked to one of the people about it. The gentleman who is supposed to fix it, well let’s just say there are more things not done. The maintenance team is trying to fix it as well, but these things shouldn’t happen. The manager that I was familiar with when I first moved in has been fired and previously before that 12 people had left. They are still some issues that they are dealing with. Not only myself, but other people are not happy here. This facility is an independent living community however I believe a lot of people here should be assisted. They are very nice but some of these folks are cognitively challenged which just makes it more difficult. The food that they provide as well do not accommodate to people at all. It’s heavily salted and I call it ‘Jail House Food’. It’s just high in carbs and sugar. Every single morning they serve scrambled eggs and maybe sausage and bacon. There really isn’t any variety. I have experience rude behavior from their staff that was completely inappropriate. I have complained about it, but it should not have happened. Many people are afraid to speak up about their experience because they are afraid of retribution. Again I am very disappointed and I would definitely not recommend.

The community at Carolina Gardens at Garden City was little larger and older than others we visited. The staff that offered the tour were kind but not as welcoming as we had seen. The community does offer a separate memory care unit.

My wife was at Park Place for parts of August and September. The main reason that she went home was that she did not sleep much there. When she returned home she was able to sleep much better. At P P the food was good and the staff was very kind and helpful.

I have mixed feelings about Ivy Springs. My husband fell a few days after being in there and no one saw it. They messed up his blood thinner medications. (I understand that they have now fired the lady that was in charge of that medication.) Then two weeks after the fall he died, and they said on the medical report that he had bleeding in the brain which they said was probably a delayed effect of the fall. I am sure that it works out well for others but it turned out to be a negative experience for us. I can't blame the facility necessarily, but perhaps they could have kept a closer eye on him. I don't know.

For the most part, the people at Brookdale Newport, are very caring and helpful. However, there are a couple of people, will not mention names, in some higher up positions in this particular care facility that have no business working for this company, as I have read what they expect of their employees. They would not hurt the people in their care physically, but are just very unpleasant in dealing with them, very uncaring and actually speak unkindly of them to anyone who will listen. Other than these couple of bad seeds, everyone seems to be very kind and helpful in any and all situations.

For $60,000/year, It would be nice to serve the residents brain healthy meals. For it to be a relatively new facility, I would think they would be knowledgeable or at least do the research to ensure the foods served to the residents contribute to brain health. If we decide to select Ivy Springs Manor, it looks like I will have to take my mother-in-law most of her meals and snacks. That's a lot of work when you are paying that kind of money out of pocket. It's a bummer because I was impressed with everything else with the facility and program.

well my mother has only been there for 2 weeks but what I have seen was far I'm not very happy with. it seems there's a communication problem between the Executive Director and other members of the staff. also on the week ends it seems like there's too little supervision going on come take times takes three or four rings to get the door answered and it seems people are just sitting in the lobby totally unattended. I really think they need to have a manager on duty program or something similar where there's always management on board on the weekend. my mother's room has not been clean on several occasions I've had to go get somebody to empty her trash bring her towels etc also there has been some problems with a couple of the patience my mother has a fear of two of them and I certainly see why ! I've been told that there may be some changes there so hopefully things will get better

I find that staff is friendly but I question their service to my husband. They do not assist with brushing teeth, washing hands or toilet cleanliness. The toothpaste tube is just as full as when I left it 3 months ago. He is not shaved well. Every thing is good except patient care and cleanliness. Also, his bathroom is rarely cleaned and I have cleaned it myself.

I didn't like it at all. We just walked in and the first impression wasn't a real good one. It smelled and it was too much money for what my mother in law got compared to the other ones we were looking at. The studio/one bedroom was about $2,000 and the extra services we were going to need were going to bring that price up.

It was difficult to reach them and also hard to get them to respond to emails or phone calls. The only time they responded was when A place for mom would contact them. Due to the lack of communication we weren't able to get the one bedroom for my mother. We moved her in a studio with the condition that she would be transitioned into the next one bedroom available, which was not the case. She moved in at the end of sept/beginning of October and we are still waiting.

It was bad. Meals were inedible. The employees on nights had very bad attitudes

I had a convenient arrangement here at osprey manor however things were promised and have not been resolved as the food is awful and at times has to brought into our apartments in plastic. No activity, no pool just three meals leaves a lot to be desired as well as being short staffed a great number of move in and outs leaving routine maintenance on hold. This is my honest idea of bad senior living.

Mars hill charged me for a month and just NOW gave me a refund. The floor staff is wonderful- they loved my momma. The management at mars hill,[names removed] NEVER said they were sorry for my loss - just kept asking "are you out yet?" I was packing all my momma's stuff up all by myself. I was there every day with my momma. I was very close to her. They were cold and insensitive.

The staff and local management were very friendly and my Dad liked them. Unfortunately for some reason it's extremely difficult to get things straightened out when you have any issues. My Dads emergency pendant didn't work and it took over a week to get one that worked. He had a fall and could not get anyone so he called me on my phone and I had to call the front desk to get someone to help him. My Dad was not offered any special diet or any choice of food. His Doctor wanted low sodium diet which I told them but everyone there gets the same food served to them. He was not supposed to have any medications given to him by the staff at the Oaks because he was capable of administering his own meds that he got from Lo Cost pharmacy as stated by his primary care physician. However, numerous times they tried to bring medications in and give it to him which he had presence of mind not to take them. I called and reported this each time. Never could get a key to his mailbox to get his mail. Had to ask someone up front to get it out for us. As I said first, the staff were very friendly but resolving issues just didn't seem to happen for whatever reason. I feel that I must be honest with what made us remove my Dad from this facility because I know that A Place for Mom is a very reputable business that would not want to recommend a sub par facility.

Got a call on Sunday morning where at shift change they found my mom sitting in chair with laceration to head that no one was aware of what happened.. another time when she fell and broke her hip it was days before she was taken to hospital for treatment.

I did have to move my loved one out of Chapman Manor, so that experience is reflected in my ratings. Poor communication was the main reason we left.

I'll be honest, I'm not impressed. I don't think it's a good place. There are new staff every three weeks it seems. Right when my mom gets to know a staff that is helpful, they tend to leave or get fired. The person that originally showed us around got demoted and then left or not fired. There are no activities, from what I understand the staff that makes the food are rude. The staff I met over a year ago were great, but none of them are there anymore.

Overall experience is a 2, thru no faults of the facility. Not impressed with the housekeeping in the residence rooms. Common areas were good. #3 Rate a 4. There were two members of the care staff l would rate a 5. They were extremely attentive to my dad. I don't think the assessment done on my dad prior to his admission was accurate and that he needed more skilled help than they were prepared for which led to many issues, especially frequent falls. #5 l would rate a 4. #6 rate a 3, but my dad was a very picky eater and he liked the temperature of his food extremely hot. #7. Rate a 4. Dad was not much into arts and crafts, not much of a social person either which made it difficult for him to be around strangers. #8 rate a 4 it was a fair price

It's too easy to call a home with people in various states of debilitating disability "depressing," but that word comes to mind. This place has a veneer of cheeriness, which the residents themselves uphold with smiles and waves. The staff act very nice too. Weekends, the place seems adrift, with leadership missing and activities simply not begun or changed before they've even begun. The food is horrendous, unless the goal is to shorten lifespans: school-lunch type food that flies in the face of all studies on what constitutes healthy eating: white bread, processed meat, lots of sugary desserts and nary a fresh vegetable or fruit. Is this really the best we can do as a nation? Am aware of the more expensive homes having many more resources and better food and attention to the elderly and infirm. We have become blasé as a nation about how we treat the aged, and I hope some compelling leader steps up about these inequities, and that I myself never suffer the same fate as these elders.

We only stayed there for three months because the care was not very good, a large medicine error was basically shrugged at, and management was very dismissive of any concerns. I believe all issues stemmed from the management that started right after we moved. Many long term caregivers were let go, new ones weren't properly trained and they were often short staffed because new people didn't enjoy working for the new management and quit regularly. No consistency in care. I kept trying to make things better and it just got worse. I was there every day and if my mom's care was poor, it makes me wonder about the care of others that were less fortunate. Thanks for all of your help. It wasn't something that we could have predicted because the management changed right after she moved in and layoffs started soon after.
