All that glitters is not gold

When we were looking for facilities for our mother we were told they had nursing services to meet her needs. Unfortunately this was not the case and due to their non attendance to these important factors our morher declined quickly and had to move after a few short weeks after ending up in the hospital.

Unprofessional Management

This facility looks great and they promise the best of everything but once they close the deal the story changes. The nurses and aids are not supposed to do anything but patient care but We have seen them serving in the dining room and doing laundry. Management is unorganized, hard to find when you need them and fail to provide critical information to family/guardians. We've repeatedly asked for keys and codes that after 3 months we still do not have. Manager tells us it's someone else's job or that she didn't know we wanted them. Very frustrating. It all comes down to management. We're considering moving our family member out if something doesn't change. Management is placating and condescending. For the price there just have to be better choices.

Not Enough Supervision For Us

My loved one fell and it possibly was because there was not enough attention. We found that he needed more supervision and attention. It is a small place and cute. Care not as promised...

We were quite impressed with our tour of the facility. The dining tables were covered with cloth table cloths and cloth napkins. The staff was very friendly and seemed knowledgeable. Most importantly we were told that my dad would be taken care of as good or better than at home as the staff was knowledgeable about residents with Dementia/Alzheimer's disease. After dad became a resident, we didn't see the nice table coverings, the food was less than appetizing as it was almost always cold and the residents in Memory Care had to eat some of the food with their hands as the meat was not cut up. There were several times when we visited that dad was soaked with urine. The staff did not look in on him for hours at a time when we were visiting. He did not receive his prescribed antidepressants for 3 days in a row. My family and I complained twice that I know of in less than 2 weeks. Dad passed away on his 15th day at the facility. Maybe we expected too much from the staff and facility. I hope that our complaints didn't fall on deaf ears for the sake of the current and future residents.

My loved one has been in the community for a while now. So far, the services we have been receiving from their part haven't been what we expected. The staff need to be more attentive. Short Staffed!!

The caregivers at Meadowood Assisted Living and Memory Care are very caring and loving. I am really pleased with the care that are providing my loved one. I would rate the caregivers a 4 of 5. The community overall has been a challenge since my loved one has moved in. They have been short staffed for several weeks and the management and director keep stating that they are working on it. They have yet to fulfill this need. I have personally had to help other residents move from wheelchairs to chairs because there is a lack of staff to keep an eye on them. They have filled the activities staff position with very friendly and lovely people. However, they are not skilled or trained in working with the activity abilities of the residents. Some of the activities offered are not appropriate for the residents mobility or memory.

Billing/care discrepencies

Our experience with Brookdale Gainesville has been mixed. It seems like a nice enough place, but the last bill I received was much higher than what was agreed upon, as they had increased her level of care to max without consulting or informing me. Also I do not believe the services they are providing her even match up with their highest tier of care, so I am not sure why they would be charging for that.

Disappointed

My dad has lived here for over 2 years. Unfortunately the level of care is not adequate. We have an out side care give for my dad from 8 - 8 every day. When the first care giver is there at 8am, he is still in clothes from the night before and has urinated in his bed. The staff has a the minimum level of training and are not paid well. They start at Rosewood and then leave for a better paying position. I can't tell you how many care givers (employed by Rosewood) I have seen come and go. There are only two care givers that I would trust with my dad. They have a new hire that did not have a name tag. Unfortunately, I wasn't sure if she was an employee or a resident. While Rosewood is clean and doesn't have the typical smell of a assisted living/memory care residence, the level of care is poor. They are hiring people that do not really care about the elderly and it shows. The two I referenced below are amazing and you can see the love and care they have for the residence.

Very strange tour

I don't know what was going on there that day but the manager was not in and someone else offered to take us on a modified tour but the third time she referred to the memory care unit as the "lockdown" unit I turned to my husband and told them we were leaving; we didn't even go and see the memory unit. It was a strange tour with an uninformed person and nobody could figure out who it was that took us on that tour. It was kind of a sensory overload, the downstairs had a very funy floorplan, going in and out of rooms, the archways and columns and I can't imagine anyone who has memory issues going through that part of the building. It would be very disconcerting and I know my mother would be a deer in the headlights.

Not Very Good

My mother was here for almost 5 years and although she was comfortable at the facility I cannot recommend it. Over the years we had a revolving door of staff. Caregivers changed almost weekly and no need to learn the names as they would not be around long. They appeared to be usually understaffed. All the residents have call buttons and you will be told it is usually a 10 min response. This does not happen. 30 minutes is more the norm. Especially in the evenings. I have been there after about 8 and walked the entire facility and could not find a caregiver for help. I assume they were there but not available. Unfortunately, I feel this is probably happening at most facilities. However, that is still not acceptable. Also, the on staff nursing also changed almost every few months. I do not know how many different nurses I met at the facility but every time I needed one they were different. This also caused a problem with medications. The med techs worked hard but were understaffed or overworked, don't know but they made too many mistakes. At least three times my mom was given incorrect meds and it caused some server reactions that would have been critical if I had not been there to correct them. Screwing up meds is a Major problem as this is the one thing you depend on them getting right. Don't know how many times I found meds just sitting in a cup in the room. No one checked to see if my mom actually took them. When brought up to the current management the solution I was offered was "we will do more training" not a good situation. The food was only fair and I ate there frequently. Again, a continuous turnover is cooks was part of the problem. The rest of the staff worked hard but it seemed more in fear of the director than anything else. I saw many good staff "let go". There are a couple of good ones left but not sure how they stay there. Currently the current management is concerned about their liability, making money, and not the welfare of the residents. My mom has left. The place looks good but underneath there are real problems. If you put you loved one there be aware you will need to monitor all they do to make sure they get the care you are paying for, if you can't be there 3-4 time a week, well good luck. [removed] I gave it 2 stars as it was not all bad and I am not sure any other place is better. It looks nice, but the staff turnover, caregiver response, food is all sub par. Look at lots of other places before putting you loved one here. It is hard to move you mom or dad once they get in so make your choice well informed.

Beware

Beware, lots of human rights violations in this memory care, do your home work and compare! Don't let the glitz and glamor pull you in. No phones allowed here, may be told can't visit or contact your loved one for up to 6 weeks at the beginning. Poor quality meals, snacks are usually donuts, why not cheese & crackers or fruit for snacks. Was told the chef had worked at Flagstaff House restaurant in Boulder, they never heard of him. Very few activities provided, supposed to have group walks that's rare, lack of stimulation for all residents. Beware of nurse [name removed], she makes the rules her way, right or wrong! Strong psychotropic drugs are apparent to control some patients, you might not recognize your loved one after 2 months if that is the case. CNAs do a good job over all and are friendly and courteous. This place has only been open 8 months and already have had several resignations of top level employee key positions. Poor and mismanagement pretty much sums it up. It could be a great place if they drained the swamp and hired competent people.

Not a Good Fit For Us

I toured at Willow Bend, and while the community itself was fine, I didn't like that the residents were all required to join in the activities there. They have a system of stations set up that the residents have to go though. I realize that their goal is to set up a routine for the residents, but I don't feel that they should be required to do all the activities if they don't want to. Overall, I feel this community would not be a good fit for us.

I no longer recommend

My mother has been a resident of this ALF since it opened. It was very nice at that time and the food was very good. Things have drastically changed since then. Nearly three years later and it has gone severely down hill. The food quality is very bad compared to how it used to be. I have a feeling they are no longer preparing the meals on site as you can never smell food cooking, it is tasteless, bland and cold. Most dinners consist of a lunch meat sandwich on stale bread with french fries. The dining room staff is very disorganized and unprofessional looking and in their actions. Rather than asking what may I get for you [Removed], they say what you want? There is a constant turnover of employees which says management is poor. The administrator acts very accommodating when told of a problem but nothing seems to get better just forgotten. They lost my mother's medication on more than one occasion and when she falls in her room they are very slow if ever to respond. I am tired of her complaints and feel terrible leaving her there but I feel I have no other choice since she is not willing to ;move. On the bright side they do have side trips to restaurants and mystery rides that mom seems to enjoy. She also likes some of the activities and has met nice people and employees there. It seems like the reviews on here are from people looking at the Windsor not from those who have lived there. I wish I could move my mother somewhere else but everything seems nice on the surface and I'm afraid to jump from the frying pan into the fire. I hope things improve, I know many of the residents have been complaining.

Good Mgmt, Awful Environment

Employees are nice. Residents are terrible people who seek to take their long-simmering psychological issues out on anyone else to feel better about their themselves. Caregivers are forewarned. Petty jealousy is the name of the game here. And it has nothing to do with distracting themselves from encroaching death and everything to do with middle school, primitive human behavior. Consider it feral pack behavior or sociopathic tendencies, who knows, but new members are quickly inducted into the "way things work." This wasn't my first experience with the geriatric community, Also very White People. Although mgmt seems to be making an effort to change that. Perhaps they got sued. People of color looking to be residents should be wary.

Think twice

My family member has been there several months. Recently a new director arrived and the staffing problems, always as issue, have become a crisis. Several long time staff have left in the last few weeks. The odor coming from some of the residents sends the message that staff shortages have had an affect on level of care. Also the dining room is more of a dining hall. Some of the staff are good but many just sort of throw the plates down. There are usually long waits in between courses and options that appear on the menu may take a long time to be served. The message seems to be to take what they give you and don't bother with the options. My impression is that many, possibly most, of their assisted living residents have some form of dementia. However, the resident rooms are beautiful. The public spaces are also very attractive although limited.

Run away don’t walk!!

My mother is now at legends for a little over a month and it has been a complete train wreck!!! Second night there she fell out of a bed that was to high we asked several times to get the bed lowered but the request was way out of there skill set . So mom broke hip surgery and then to Cordarra rehab that experience was a horrific experience. Got mom back to legends and they lost her hearing aids, they blame her she is 91 on hospice had hearing aids 15 years never lost them as they are very important to her as she is def with out them. Management would not take responsibility even though it is in her care plan. Done one took her wheel chair out of her room in middle of night management made no attempt to find it . Hospice had to bring another one. On several occasions I went to visit mom she was in bed dirty needed help and her call button in a table across room . She is 9- unable to walk but the manager said it was my mom’s fault … management is morally bankrupt. No honor, no shame, no

Our family's experience

Our experience was poor in most every thing. Walked into their apt and it smelled of urine. [name removed] was laying in a wet bed , wet clothing. Laundry wasn't done as we had been told it would be, went at supper time and she wasn't eating and she said she didn't like it. I ask someone with a badge that said food on it if she could have something else and they said the other offering was salad and she could not have that because of swallowing and I said so is she just supposed to go to bed hungry and they finally said that they could get a grilled cheese sandwich and she said [name removed] said she would eat that it took 4045 minutes for it to come out by that time they had passed out cookies and she ate cookies and wasn't hungry anymore. Then there was also changing in staff two and three times in the short time that we were there so we couldn't get any support from them because we didn't know who to even ask most the time. Just a very unpleasant experience.

Do not recommend this facility

The food was terrible. The messed up her medication several times. The facility had constant turnover. I feared for my mother's safety. I moved her out and the facility wanted to charge me because I didn't give notice.

Terrible management

My 91 year old dad resided at arbor house for 2 1/2 years. About a year ago, the place was sold to legends and it quickly went downhill. They were constantly understaffed. We tried going to the director, [name removed] with our issues and eventually spoke with [name removed], director of operations and [name removed], V.P. of operations, to no avail. We formed a resident/family council and called for town hall meetings only to be met with resistance. Dad received the wrong medications and had missing medications. I contacted state and after their Investigation, my dad was evicted with a 5 day notice to vacate. We spoke with state officials and our ombudsman but, decided he’d be better off with a company that cares. If you love your family, please don’t consider Arbor House. You will be very disappointed.
